THAT'S the truth....ha ha!!! But I love him to itty bitty little grey pieces and wouldn't change him for the world. He's just altered our future home buying criteria a bit.....hardwood floors are a must

Oh it was a comical sight to be sure....I could do nothing but laugh, Chuck just kept shaking his head, and Chimay was just as chipper and proud as could be. It's too bad that Teflon is so poisonous to birdies....I'd love nothing more than to coat our whole apartment in a microfilm of the stuff<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/07/16 22:12

Nice one!

I recently started making a little treat to go with Chimay's fruit breakfast--banana mashed with a little peanut butter and flax seed. He goes crazy for it, and his little beak gets so messy (but it's still cute). Well one morning over the weekend, I made it, he ate it, loved it, and FLUNG it like a champ!!! We were watching TV letting him eat, and on a commercial I happened to look up at his playtop and there were globs of it ALL over the wall behind his cage. My boyfriend and I just looked at each other and sighed "oh well." So rather than chance smearing it everywhere trying to clean it up, we ran a few errands and planned on a big clean when we came home. Well one (or both) of us forgot what happens to fruit when it's exposed to oxygen..... We walked up our apartment stairs and I gasped. It looked like POOOO all over the walls! The banana had turned a nasty dark brown and seemed to amplify his mess 10 times over. Needless to say, I love the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Ha ha ha!!!<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/07/16 22:15

Chimay does it as well, right before settling down for a nap/bedtime....right in line with what everyone else has said. It was a little strange at first, but after a couple of days when he came home it always made me smile when I heard that little beak grinding away. We stick our tongues out back at him when he sticks his out. Not sure if he notices but it makes us laugh. ha ha!

Television and full spectrum lighting

Wow!!! I never knew that about the rate of their vision....Thanks Dan! -
Good point on the loose fit of the mesh Dave....hopefully it'll still be a good temporary solution until a cage with smaller bar spacing can be purchased
-
SUCH a great story!!! You are the best parronts that Charlie could ever have wished for...greYt example of the dedication and love that these little guys ALL deserve!
-
Oh how EXCITING!!!! I've heard that also, about them speaking in the voice of their less favored human but Chimay hasn't started talking yet so I have nothing for comparison. Congratulations to Brutus on his first words!
-
I also think that the mesh is a greYt short term solution that will keep your baby safe, and your mind at ease!! Please keep us posted on how it works out! udannefitz: It's great to hear that you were able to get Zazu a new cage....I actually chuckled out loud on the "head had grown so quickly" comment and my coworkers didn't get it. Ha ha!

Television and full spectrum lighting

Aw cute!!! Maybe Chimay just isn't a television kind of guy. Lol -
Ever since we got Chimay and read about parrots seeing in full spectrum light, I've wondered if that effects the way they see images on television. I've tried googling it but I haven't found anything that would give me an answer that specific. I've observed him being very interested in photographs of birds, but doesn't really react to images of animals or birds on television. Any thoughts? No real question here just thinking "out loud" Ha ha

Jamal, I have to say I'm wondering the same thing...I've consistantly seen posts from you that are "half cocked" with no research having been done. I think what puzzles me and actually UPSETS me more is that you are not posing QUESTIONS about these topics. You are expressing strong opinion on things you clearly know nothing about. HAD you done any research you would have know that Griffin and Wart have been with Dr P with some time and even spent time with Alex before he died. I know that I personally HAVE responded to your "parrotz in the lab" thread (seriously, what is up with all of the z's?) recommending Dr. P's book Alex & Me, as others have done in this thread, AND suggested that you research first. Do you really think that Alex became "that really smart bird" all on his own? No. That was Dr. Pepperburg's tireless care, attention and REEEESSSEARRRCH!!!!!!!!!! Frankly, if you are so clearly against educating yourself on the matter but still feel the need to thrust your hateful message on others then no one in this forum really needs to waste their time arguing the point with you. It is obvious that it will always fall on deaf ears. This will be my last response to any thread that you begin Jamal...<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/07/16 17:56

I agree, do some research....google search Einstein or go to YouTube. There are quite a few videos on Einstein, and you can read about her and the zoo she resides in at http://www.knoxville-zoo.org/einstein.htm

When Walmart's commercials used to have the whistling smiley-face bouncing around the store dropping prices, my high school TAG picked up that whistle. That and R2D2! Lol

Is it unsafe for her to do this...
chimaysmommy replied to myafricanqueen's topic in The GREY Lounge
I do allow Chimay near my face, and he gives kisses to the cheek and nose. I do agree with Dave with regard to sudden movements. Nothing on your face should be "chased" no matter how cute and fun and adorable it is now. You never know when a sudden head movement will incite an instinctive bite to your nose/lips/ear/eyes. One time Chimay and I were sitting on the couch watching TV...I must have not been paying attention because he went in and tried to preen my eyelashes. It was SO HARD not to jerk my head away, but I knew that a sudden movement was a very bad idea considering how close he was to my eyeball. He had a five minute cage "timeout" for that one and hasn't done it since! -
I'd also recommend the Aviator harness...I haven't had any experience with the Feather Teather before, but from what I've heard from other users it sounds to be a bit tedious as far as the number of clips/buckles on it. Chimay will tolerate the harness, but I've found that he is less and less willing to have it put on him each time we go out. I hope that he doesn't eventually reject the harness altogether, but if that happens my backup plan is to get an "outside time" cage.

Wow!!!! Cristen you have got such a big heart taking in TuffGuy like that...He is just adorable, and I hope for nothing but the best for you guys! Please keep us posted on his/her progress! Any idea if there is any way to visually identify male/female starlings? Do you plan on taking him/her to the vet and everything? -
Congratulations Loukas on your new baby! I really love the name Apollo! Sounds like you'd gotten off to a rocky start with that "experienced" bird shop owner, but you seem to be just fine! Do you have any pictures of your baby? I'd like to add my two cents in on the clipping subject...I am PERSONALLY against wing clipping, but it comes down to you and your baby. You have to make the right decision by him, his psyche, and his safety. No matter what your decision is, I would like to chime in with the others here and say let him fledge fully. Learning to fly AND land well. Chimay unfortunately has a long clip to his wings (our breeder shipped him that way unfortunately, but it doesn't seem to bother him), but he still LOVES to perch on my hand or his Atom and just flap flap flap. We plan on allowing him to be unclipped from here on out. He also makes the beak grinding noise and stands on one foot throughout the day, mainly right before bedtime. Chimay's not a fan of misting/bathing at all, but he gets it anyway b/c it's good for him. Ha ha. Can't wait to hear more about you and Apollo!<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/07/06 21:25

Isn't the transition from new chick to feathered bird amazing? I'm sorry to say this but baby birds are ugly...but so much so that they're CUUUUTE!!!!!!! I love looking at baby birdie pictures, but am always amazed at how such a scraggly and bald (and adorable) little thing can turn into such a BEAUTIFUL array of feathers and color! Congratulations again Shazbaby and keep the updates coming!
-
LMAO!!!!! That is just fantastic....THANK YOU Dave!!! I think I'll have to print that out and put it on the wall next to Chimay's cage. Haha!
-
My gosh Dave where to start.....KARMA for one!!!! You are just TOO sweet! All of these greYt poems! If I could give you a million Karma I would for taking the time to say such wonderful things about the WONDERFUL people here...

What a nice gesture Dave!!! A poem would be greYt!!!

I'm sitting here at home watching the Today Show and just wanted to make a comment...and I'm speaking just of what I've seen in the media in the US, not sure how it has been since his death in other countries around the world. I find it rather depressing that not even a week after his passing, it seems that the media has moved on from CELEBRATING his life to CRITICIZING his death. Regardless of what people may or may not think of the accusations against MJ, or what he was like as a person, it is indisputable what his life's work brought to pop culture and the entertainment industry as it is today. It seems to me that the only life he knew was that lived in the eyes of the world media, with people constantly quantifying his worth by what information was provided him by that media. I can only imagine what sort of impact that would have on one's psyche. Don't get me wrong, the world media is definitely a necessary evil to some degree in that industry but I find it very disheartening that he is still being scrutinized even in death. If I could make one wish for him, it would be that the press pay their respects to him by simply letting him rest in PEACE.
