1. That is so AWESOME!!! I have to say I'm oober jealous of you! I'd take your job over my crappy insurance job any day! PLEASE keep us posted on how it goes! And if you can sneak in pics of the babies that'd be cool too. Congratulations!! :D
2. Well I just got word from my boyfriend that we DID get a delivery of toys that I had ordered from another site! Yay! At least if the Atom doesn't get here today I'll be able to sooth the disappointment with another package. Ha ha.
3. Chimay's Atom should be delivered today!!! :D I am so excited...My boyfriend left for work at noon today and it hadn't arrived, and I've been refreshing the FedEx tracking page just waiting for it to say "delivered" so I know that I can pick it up at my rental office (it's showing as on-time for delivery today). I am going to be SOOOO upset if it's not here today...patience is not one of my strong points. Ha ha!!!
4. Aw so smark Ecko!!!! He really does look greYt Caitlin...That is awesome that he isn't bothered by new things.
5. Oh ConnieLu I'm so sorry for this devestating loss ...Sending loads of love and good thoughts your way. You should be proud for having been such a great paRRont to her...I'm sure she knows that she was very much loved.
6. I really REALLY wish I had been able to, but it was just the two of us...Chuck was still at work and I couldn't take a picture of him while watching for hawks. Ha ha!!! Honestly I was SUCH a nervous wreck, but he love it!
7. I am SOOOOO proud of our boy!!! Chimay was so energetic when I got home, he was crawling around and wanting to climb some railing that he really shouldn't be (long drop down a flight of stairs behind it). I said to him "You wanna try something new?" So I gathered up the courage and calmly put his harness on all of the way. We've only been able to get up to one-wing-in so far in our harness training. He was not happy about it, and was chewing at the harness when not distracted by a pine nut. Haha So we went outside!!! Well only about 10 feet out of the front door, but outside nonetheless. He was definitely interested, but I don't know how much of a regular habit we'll be making the harness outings. We rent an apartment and there are several things about the complex that I don't feel comfortable about when it comes to him being outside. 1) Stray cats. Since spring has hit there have been at least 3 that frequent our unit of the complex, some are obviously indoor/outdoor cats with owners but others are definitely strays. 2) I don't know what, if any, treatment our grass has received. Might be just fertilizer, might be pesticides, just don't know. 3) Predatory birds. I am absolutely terrified of a hawk or something swooping down to pick up my baby for lunch. I know my odds are probably slim, but for as diligent as I was being in keeping my eyes peeled I know that ambushing is a hawk's business and I don't trust my ability to spot them 100% of the time. In the end, I think our harness time will be limited to short strolls outside on my shoulder or hand within a short proximity to our front door. Just don't want to take too many chances.
8. Char that was such a precious story....Isn't it amazing how in tune they are with their surroundings and the emotions happening around them? I'm glad your headache is gone!
9. That is just too funny....Maybe you should wear different personalized shirt each time to keep peoples' interests! "My bird is NOT a Pigeon" Then on the back you could have a picture of one of your greys, then a picture of a pigeon [Tyco picture] = African Grey [Pigeon picture] = Pigeon
10. Aaww!!! That is too cute...not the toe stubbing, but the "ow ow ow ow" that followed. Ha ha! I agree the hours away at work are the worst...the work days were long enough before Chimay came home to us, but now they're even worse. It's like traffic can't move fast enough to get home to seem them isn't it??
11. Jamal I responded to this thread without first reading your response... I would STRONGLY urge you not to allow your birds to fly free. They've both been domestic pets for over a decade according to your profile (10 and 16 years old), and that combined with having come from a less-than-loving home like you described it's hard to say if they would even have the ability to switch on their "wild" switch and survive on their own. Please don't take a chance with their lives and safety...I'm sure they love you just as much as you love them
12. LMAO!!! Like I said in my earlier post...underappreciated! Ha ha! Chimay is the same way...no matter how many toys he has, he always looks for the next opportunity to pick at my blackberry's clip-on case or climb the decorative mirror that we have in our living room. I think we all have to just accept the fact that we no longer have stuff of our own...it's THEIR stuff that they allow us to use in order to care for or entertain them.B)
13. Maybe you could make a tiny nametag for him...."Hi I'm an African Grey!" I had to come back and edit....a pigeon?? Really??? I'm speechless

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/06/01 23:04
14. When I get home from work, my time is spent not relaxing but entertaining, playing, cleaning, cooking for Chimay. I am on constant poop patrol, and there is teeny bits food stuck like cement to the walls of my apartment. I spend countless dollars on toys, food, produce (most of which goes bad because 1 grey can't go through all of it)...and he eats 100 times better than my boyfriend and I do. When I am home trying to relax to a movie or television show, he crawls down his cage bars and insists on my undivided attention. I haven't been able to sleep past sunrise one day since his arrival, including on my days off! He is a smart-alec little toddler who will never grow up. I WOUDN'T CHANGE A THING ABOUT HIM FOR THE WORLD!!!!!:cheer: I swear the decision to get a grey was the best one that my boyfriend and I have made together...every day is a surprise! We've only had him for a little over 2 months now which is much shorter than a lot of members here but they have been the most exciting two months!!!! I have fallen head over heels in love with this little featherball. He is so smart already! I can't wait to see what the years to come is going to bring the relationship between the three of us. So many times I've found myself with the television turned on, but getting ignored altogether because I am too involved with what Chimay is doing or what we're doing together. It's even made the bond between my boyfriend and I stronger! We really do our best to be the fantastic paRRonts that he so clearly deserves. One thing that I've noticed has already been mentioned a couple of times here....Chimay is one thing that my friends just can't relate to. It seems that they think that having a bird is somehow similar to having fish, or a gerbil, or something of equal emotional indifference. It is disappointing, but I am so glad that I found this forum and all of the WONDERFUL people in it!! This forum is one of the great changes in our life that came along with the decision to get a grey. YOU GUYS ROCK!
15. Chimay's demeanor in front of company differs depending on the type of company. He LOVES my mom...he shows off for her and is more than accepting of scritches. Same applies for my best friend Carlye. My boyfriend's best friend is indifferent about him, so Chimay's indifferent. Ha ha. My boyfriend's girlfriend is a little too pushy when it comes to interaction, so his demeanor is definately a little more cranky (not aggressive per say...just cranky). He'll give off really really short loud squawks, expressing his distain but will never bite. The only thing I can compare this noise to is a chicken clucking. Lol! When their son comes with them (8 years old), he's excited to see the bird and immediately wants to hold him and talk to him. He's never rough, and Chimay has never bitten him but he looks at me as if to say "I know I'm not allowed to bite him but get this kid the hell away from me" Ha ha!
16. Welcome!!! There is TONS of information available on this site, with plenty of friendly people to go along with it. Nickel seems like a joy and I love the photos! Can't wait to hear more
17. Little stinkers....precisely! This morning I got Chimay's breakfast together (walnut-date oatmeal, baby carrots, strawberry and a halved grape...yum) on a paper plate to put on the playtop just like he likes it. I turn my back to pour coffee and heard SPLAT!!! He decided he didn't want the yummy breakfast, so he picked up the paper plate and let it ALL drop over the side of the playtop. We are so underappreciated
18. LMAO!! That's hilarious....I'm sure that the first time Chimay makes a farting noise, my boyfriend and I won't notice and will blame it on each other. We have no dog to shove blame onto. Ha ha!
19. It might be the safest way to go....I really didn't think that the couple inches extra in the diameter of the orb was worth the extra mola $$$$$. That thing is expensive enough as it is. Ha ha! Definately get a ceiling protector to go with it
20. I suppose that since there aren't really many diseases (if any) that can be spread from parrot to human, you could could consider the floaters as a dietary supplement!   Your odds are good!
21. I really wish I could catch him in the act so I could post the video/sound byte to the forum. But it's so random, it's like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
22. Oh believe me....the worst is yet to come I'm sure. My boyfriend and I find toilet humor hilarious, and I have a feeling we're not the best role models for Chimay in the sounds department. The reason I say that Chimay learned his burps from his daddy is because mine don't sound quite as.....er, beefy? LMAO!!!! Sorry...
23. Ugh I really hope that Chimay's terrible twos won't be all too terrible...He's a little pistol first thing in the morning though, even with me (huge mama's boy) and it almost makes me cringe to think about what he'll be like two years from now. BUT I fully intend on eating up every little bit of this snuggly-cuddly-ness while it's around!
24. Congratulations!!!!!! It really is SUCH a relief when all of the waiting and planning is over and they're finally home with you.....let the journey begin!
