My boyfriend and I both smoke, and we used to smoke indoors. But we stopped the indoor smoking and moved it outside well before Chimay came home and there's been no smoking in our place ever since. And even though there is no evidence proving/disproving the absorption of nicotine from our hands, we err on the side of caution and wash our hands every time we come back in from a smoke break.

YAY Pat!!! I can't wait to see some pics of your fids on their Atom...Chimay just LOVES his, and it was probably the best purchase I've made for him aside from his cage. So glad you found it!!

Lyric I called the site's contact number and asked them which they'd recommend, and they based it on the weight. I trusted the answer because they could have easily tried to sell me the jumbo for an extra 30 bucks but they didn't. Personally I think the large would be okay, but I'd say call and ask. They were super helpful!

FINALLY!!!! Sorry bout the delay

Pat I just got the Orbit delivered for Chimay this past Saturday. Rather than hang it and introduce him to it that way, I played with him on the couch with it sitting on the floor in front of us for a few hours. Eventually he started standing on it on the floor, and when he started crawling around all of the "rungs" of it that's when I knew we were good to hang it up. Try introducing them to it from a "higher" perspective.

I think they really do like it....When I get home from work I tell Chimay all about my day. I know that he doesn't understand what I'm saying (yet ) but I think he likes hearing the sound of my voice, and he knows I'm talking to him.

Wow that really is strange...Maybe cut back on the egg? Just something that my vet had said to me that stuck out--he had a grey come into his office overloaded with protein because his owner was feeding it to him all of the time. Once per week seems like a pretty reasonable frequency to me, but you never know. He has me freaked on the egg thing so I stick with dark greens and broccoli to get calcium into Chimay, and his birdie bread always have a ton of eggshell in them. Maybe call the vet and ask them what they think?

Eeeeeee!!!! I'm so excited for you....September?? Wow that's quite a while to wait. When Chimay came home with us, the breeder recommended that we control his out-of-cage time at a ratio of 2 and a half to one. We'd leave him inside his cage for 2 and a half hours, then allow him one hour out on his playtop. This really seemed to help him get acclimated to his surroundings...the 2 and a half hours inside of his cage helped him feel secure while he explored his cage, and it was the perfect amount of time for him to start getting curious about coming out. My boyfriend and I took a long weekend (Saturday's homecoming thru Tuesday) from work and stayed with him through the transition. Starting on Sunday we started taking short trips out of the house -- for a 1/2 hr walk, then an hour at the store, and eventually worked our way up to seeing a movie. As far as contact goes we let him dictate to us how much affection he wanted...we talked to him a lot on his first two days home but didn't handle him too much (man was that tough), for fear of overwhelming him. Day three we started picking him up and offering neck scritches, and he ate it up!!! Aw!!!! I haven't yet done that on accident yet, but sometimes I'll ask him things on purpose just so he can hear the sound of my voice and language. It's usually to ask him where his daddy hid his pine nuts. Ha ha!

LMAO!!!! So THAT'S what they do while we're gone!!! Oh Chimay is SOOOOOO grounded!!

Ha ha ha!!!! Chimay does have a tendency to poop on his daddy more than on me... One morning, my boyfriend was laying on his side with Chimay on his arm. Chimay let loose his "morning deuce part 2" all over his side and arm. My boyf looked at me and said "Ew ew eeeewwww!!! It's hot!! Get the towels!!!" :sick: Ha ha! Sweet!!! We're pretty good at reading Chimay's body language and keeping track of the frequency, so the carpet gets saved....er...about 6 out of every 10 times. The majority's in our favor but I think we'll definately get him started on some potty training

I love it!!! He looks like he's having a blast...I might just have to try the same with Chimay! Our apartment doesn't have any room for a playstand so we're always looking for more ideas on how to entertain Chimay and save space at the same time. Great idea!

That's such great news!!! Karma to you for being such a great paRRont and working so hard to get him healthy again...Please keep us posted on the vet visit and can't wait to see some pics!!

For those of you who have been able to train your greys to poop on command, do they also poop at will when they need to? I have considered trying to train Chimay, but I don't want him to not go when I'm at work and possibly hurt himself internally.

I was able to upload a few pics from my Blackberry, but they're not as good of quality as what we have in the camera at home. I'll post some more when I get in front of the home computer. Wooohooo!

It arrived on Saturday!!!! I was having problems with the photos uploading, but will be trying again tonight when I get home from work. He LOVES it!!!! He is so funny when it comes to new toys and stuff...I had bought him a "coffee table" perch for the outside-side of his cage, about 4 inches wide and he was so apprehensive about using it. Took about a week for him to realize it was safe. But with something like the Atom which is like 5 times bigger than he is, he was ALL OVER IT!!! He particularly loves hanging from the toy we have in the center like a bat. Ha ha!!! I am SO happy with the Atom, and so is Chimay!!!

Eee! I can't wait....but it looks like we'll have to wait one more day. :pinch: I just talked to FedEx and they're actually expecting delivery tomorrow instead. Wwaaaaahhhhhh!!!!
