1. Here are some photos I took of Darwin playing today! (She is outside in an enclosure so don't worry!)
2. Hello! It has been a while since I've posted but there is so much going on all the time! I've been working at the breeder's 4 days a week and babysitting the other 3....I have had 3 days off since June 28! Busy busy. But I am so enjoying my summer. The puppy is growing fast and doing so well, and my job is WONDERFUL! I get to spend about an hour and a half a day handfeeding now....from cockatiels to parrotlets to senegals to australian kings (and many in between)...and very recently I've begun to handfeed the baby Timnehs and even a B&G macaw!!!! I've learned so much and the experience has been wonderful for Darwin, as she gets to come into the store and hang out on the store perch once a week for the day. She just loves all the attention and it's been really greyt to get her socialized! BUT NOW TO THE EVEN MORE EXCITING NEWS! Darwin said her first word....which quickly turned into a first sentence...today! I was walking through the store and there were two people hanging around her, including the breeder, talking to her and watching her play with a foot toy. She mimics a number of birds and makes too many sounds to name...including recently a tongue roll into "ARRRREBA!" which is hilarious. But this time, a little girl came up to her and said hi, and out of no where Darwin says, plain as day and in this very girly voice "HI!" !!!! The little girl giggled and continued to look at Darwin. The breeder turned to me and both of our mouths dropped to the floor, and then about 5 seconds later she says "How are you?!?" and flaps her wings, bobbing her head up and down excitedly. I WAS SHOCKED! I am so proud of my little girl, and so is the breeder! She's said it a few more times today - and particularly seems to enjoy saying HI! Darwin will be 8 months old tomorrow! She is growing so fast and I love watching her get older and mature. I can't believe she is talking! YAY DARWIN! :):):) P.S....I just took a new batch of photos of her today and will post them ASAP! Hopefully tomorrow!
3. My little one's name is Darwin. I'm kind of a science geek We all thought she was a he but it turned out that she's a girl! My mum actually calls her Winnie sometimes! How funny?
4. Happy hatchday Ana! They grow so fast don't they! Congratulations!
5. He is soooo beautiful I can't believe it. I work with all kinds of macaws at my breeders and I've never seen anything like him! A stunning bird, and he will be such a good boy under your loving care. Congratulations!
6. Oh those are quite the characters you've got there. Hilarious! They do the funniest things, don't they? :laugh:
7. OH MY GOSH she is such a sweetheart! Congratulations on a very successful homecoming - it's so nice to see you getting her out and about! People just love to see them don't they? The attention is fantastic and she'll be so well socialized! What a precious little girl you have there, and I love her name! Congrats! :laugh:
8. Oh my goodness that is one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time! The bird's got rhythm~! Thanks for the laugh, priceless grey you've got there. {Feel-good-0002006E}
9. Chloe is a beautiful dog and I hope all goes well for you and her, Dan. You really do never know what might hit you on seemingly an ordinary day.
10. Dan had excellent answers but don't get discouraged if he/she does not take to the warm food...Darwin would not eat oatmeal or most warm things if her life depended on it, and sometimes when they are newly weaned it can cause them to stop eating solid foods and wanting to be hand fed again. Just something to think about. It's great to hear that you're doing your research! A tip for proper socializing...bring your bird places! Get a travel cage, take him/her to the market (on a harness of course), to pet stores, to a friends house. And as far as touching goes I agree with Dan, I touch Darwin for brief periods all over so she's used to being touched under the wings, etc if a vet (God forbid) ever needs to. Good luck and keep asking questions! Lots of people here willing to help.
11. Oh wonderful pictures Spock! Nice to see you get along well with the babies. You sure are looking good there, Spock, you should meet my friend Darwin, I bet you'd get along very well....
12. Oh would you look at them they look just like my little Darwin did I am so excited for you and your new TAG! Such sweet little birds.
13. I do so hope this little one hatches for you. I'm sending all the good vibes and happy thoughts I can to the little baby. Good luck and do let us know what is going on!
14. My little Darwin love is growing up! Just under 7 months now and she gets cuter and sweeter and smarter by the minute. No words yet but lots of sounds and whistles! She is a sound effect genius! Here's a few of her favourites.... 1. the sound when you flick your tongue - do you know what I mean? It's kind of like a tocktocktock sound. She does it every time you put your face close to her. So cute. 2. The squeak squeak of my puppy's chew toys. Perfectly. I went into Darwin's room the other day because I thought he was in there playing! 3. The high pitched whistle to low pitched whistle and an explosion noise 4. I say "are you pretty?" and she does the woootwooo classic whistle 5. I say "Darwin, what does a laser do?" And she goes pewpewpewwww 6. A spaceship noise I got off the internet lol 7. 3 more whistles my mum does to her all day long 8. Donald Duck squaks that my dad makes (she adores my dad) 9. the crying of my puppy when he gets put in his crate for sleeping, also impeccable :blink: :laugh: She is too funny. She has her own little sounds she uses when she wants something or just to say hi. Not a picky eater which is nice as I've been giving her a huge variety of everything I can get my hands on. I've been taking her on her harness out and about - to the market and to my school etc. Always with a bottle of hand sanitizer and she has stepped up onto a few people! Go Darwin! She also loves loves loves to get her neck scratched. She'll come running across the table and plunck her head down and do this really soft whistle. I'll scratch her neck and she'll tuck her beak under her belly. I must say I love her more and more all the time! She is my little baby. She has also made an appearance in my photography portfolio as she is so photogenic. Here's the link! Enjoy! I'll have more photos of her and Apollo, my little pup, to come in the near future! I'm on my laptop and I forgot they're not on here. Cassandra

16. Hello! As promised, here are some pictures of my little German Shepherd pup. He's almost 8 weeks old and his name is Apollo. If I could I would post pictures of his parents and his older brother, they are absolutely stunning dogs. The breeder paid $15 000 for Apollo's mom! I could not believe that, but man can you tell. Beautiful dogs, and I can't wait to see little Apollo when he grows up! He's lots of trouble so far but also very sweet and loving. Anyway, here goes!
17. Welcome to the family Cristen and Dalia. What a beautiful name you have for what is surely a beautiful grey! And yes, the support here is wonderful. Questions always get very informative answers!
18. I have more good news - and I'll be honest, it's about time. It's been tough at my house for a while and I'm glad to have some good news lately I'm getting a pup this weekend! As most of you may know, my dog Wilbur passed away a while ago. My family as well as my other dog have been grieving his loss and are feeling more comfortable without him as time passes. My current dog, Tango, is not doing so well and seems very lonely. We have always had two dogs and have finally decided to get another. I'm very excited about this because we have always had little dogs, and this time my family is in agreement -it's time for our dream dog. We are driving all the way up to Sudbury (a 6 hour drive) tomorrow to pick out a German Shepherd pup! We have done tons of research for a good breeder, as they tend to be overbred. He/she is 7 weeks old, and we are all arguing over names! Anyway...for those dog lovers out there, I can post pictures if you're interested! I'm sure he'll be absolutely adorable. Anyway - thanks for reading! We're all very excited. Cassandra P.S. - Darwin is a little genius, I swear. Every day she comes out with new noises - she now mimics a very strange sound my dad makes, does 4 whistles, laughs all the time, kisses, and goes "WEEEEEEEEEE!" in a really girly voice when we go in the car. She loves the car!

Post edited by: cf737, at: 2009/06/12 23:15
