1. Darwin is almost 9 months and also does this...both around 4pm and then almost 6pm she will come over to me and bury her little head under my arm or neck. She also is very cuddly before bedtime and I think this is normal, especially for babies!
2. It is heartbreaking watching the video of little Akima, knowing that the little ball of sunshine is no longer with us. You will always have the memories of your little baby to cherish. I am so very sorry for your loss. I send big hugs your way.
3. Talk about trouble! Darwin has a few funny habits that I thought I'd share with you - and one new one she's started today that is just too funny. One of her very favourite things in life seems to be my pup, Apollo. They have become very good friends....and gee, I wonder why... Almost every dinner Darwin has goes something like this: It's 5:30. I make Darwin some sort of dinner or give her whatever we're making. She goes up on her t-perch and begins to eat. Apollo is asleep in his bed, and as Darwin eats and makes happy Darwin noises (eg. "weeeee!") Apollo wakes up and comes into the kitchen. As soon as Darwin sees him, what does Darwin do? Picks up a beakful of food and runs to the edge of the table. She looks all over the place for Apollo and he sees her poke her beak over the edge. Apollo sits down, tail wagging, and Darwin chucks the beakful of food onto the floor. Apollo scoops it up and waits patiently for the next treat! LOL! This will sometimes go on repeatedly until myself or my mum interject!!!! And today she did something very funny. She has this little giggle, like a "hehe", and she always has good timing with it. I have a little jar of pellets on top of her cage I sometimes use for foraging toys. She was on her playtop as I was cleaning up and she wanted my attention. At first she just went "arrrreba! Weeeee!" etc....and I made some noises back but continued cleaning. I left the room for a moment, came back in and she was looking at me sideways. She clomps to the edge of the playtop, whacks the jar with the tip of her beak and I hear a "thud" as it hits the floor. Then Darwin, looking mischevious, turns around, looks at me and goes "hehehehehe", very quietly. I walked towards her, said "Oh really?!" And she goes "hehehehehehe!" even louder, running towards me and looking very silly. What a character!
4. GreYt photo! Happy hatchday Lyric!!!! WOOHOOO! I too wish you many many many many many many more.
5. Ohhh I'm so excited for you! I bet you can't wait. I too like Sephora! Very girly name and suiting for a Grey, I think
6. What a beautiful bird Mocha is becoming, I love watching him grow. He is bound to be a real sweetheart!
7. Oh my gosh this just made my mother and I laugh our heads off. Thanks guys I really needed that As for Darwin, I think she could be a professional floor and wall washer. She sometimes takes a bath in a large dish on the kitchen table and I end up cleaning the entire room afterwards - although who needs cleaning supplies when you have an African Grey to spray water everywhere for you?! :silly:
8. Very, very cool. I am so jealous! I have a little java tree for Darwin but nothing even close to that! Well done
9. Your little one will come around I'm sure with time and patience, they all have individual personalities and it will take her some time to get used to everything. It sounds like she is coming around, keep up the good work and I'm sure you two will be best friends in no time. Just another thought I know you've been trying to work close to her and Dan mentioned talking to her - I think talking to her is a very good idea as it will get her used to the sound of your voice, a sound of comfort. Try talking happily and telling her she is a pretty bird, etc. As for wing clipping it's everyone's personal choice, whatever you decide to be in the best interest of your little one is up to you. Congratulations on entering the wonderful world of having a Grey, and please keep us posted!
10. Very cute! Congratulations! You are about to fall in love like never before!
11. Wow, I love to watch Mocha's progress as the days go on. They really do grow faster than imaginable and it is so fascinating watching him grow! How neat.
12. Hello hello....I hope this hasn't previously been discovered but here goes. My mum originally bought one of these for my pup Apollo. He loves this toy and soon my mum and I were putting treats and peanut butter inside. My dad made a joke that it's like foraging for Apollo! So I went out to the same store and bought one similar, just a bit smaller. I got a chain from work and a hook and attached them to the side of the toy. Then I went to my handy paper shredder, filled the toy with shredded paper, some chinese finger traps(the little wicker ones), some plastic binkies, a few treats and a cob of corn. It ended up being a super-fun foraging toy that Darwin plays with for hours and hours. Keeps her busy for a while, as she pulls out the paper to get to the toys and treats. She also just enjoys the squishy feeling of the rubber and will sit and chew on the toy itself once all the goodies are gone! Here is a photo of the toy:

Post edited by: cf737, at: 2009/08/21 02:26
13. Absolutely hilarious, Charlene, I love it! They are priceless aren't they. :)
14. Oh what a sweetheart! It is sooo funny watching them try to make decisions! I can't tell you how many times my dad and myself have walked around the house with Darwin's left foot on my hand and her right on him! They are so funny.

Sony-My Cat

I'm very happy for you and your cat - Sony is very pretty and it's such good news that she pulled through. Here's to hoping the test results are good!
16. What a beautiful and interesting little one you have there. I have looked at some photos of them when fully grown, how amazing! I am fascinated to see how this little one grows! Just out of curiosity, what are the Hill Mynah's personalities like? Are they very friendly, do they bond to just one person? Karma to you for taking on this little one.
17. Oh Pat karma to you for such a fantastic, true rescue. You have done something amazing with saving poor Harley and I know he will flourish under your care. As for the other birds, I know you'll do the right thing and well done for sticking up for them, they really need you. What a horrible woman, who could do something like that to such incredible creatures? Keep us posted Pat.
18. Thanks everyone for the replies! And yes, my job is wonderful. I have been watching just not posting! I hope to keep everyone more posted on Darwin and Apollo's progress.
19. And one where he's awake and doesn't have something in his mouth lol.
20. And while I'm on a roll...here's 16 week old Apollo, who is about 40lbs....oh boy....
