Hi Suzette, I think the sleep cage is a good idea, I got my baby home last sunday. At the breeder he was kept in a plastic box, so his big cage here was all new. He wasnt able to perch last week, but now he does, and he is able to climb on the side of the cage (big change in 1 week). As for the sleeping arrangement, hi has 2 perches very low, close to the bottom of the cage, thats where he stays most of the day and sleeps. At night I put a small towell on the floor just in front of his perch, so when he perches and sleeps, he can relax his front on the towel. He looks very cosy and comfy during his sleep and he seems to like it. I guess it will be a while before I raise the perches, but there is no hurry at all. As for the photos, normally there is an attach icon (when you reply to a post, you have to click on Go Advanced and you find it) Once you click this attach icon, another window opens On the top you can find Add Files with a green little + Once you click that, you have to click on select files down Once you select files, you click on upload Give it a while (it takes few seconds), then the photos will appear in a thumbnail size. You can select the ones you want and down you click on Insert attachment or Insert inline This way the photos are attached Hope this was clear, but please dont hesitate to ask if it doesnt work Good luck uploading photos and we look forward to them

Hi Sassy, glad things seem under control. Concerning falling from the perch, is it possible to lower the perch so any fall wouldnt be dangerous? In case not, how about a small pillow or a wrapped towel bellow it at night? Its just an idea. Awaiting your good news about your baby

Lucky to have such a vet Wingy, here the vets are typically French and there arent many bird experts, since there arent many parrots anyway. Still looking for the right one, hoping that I wont need him anyway. I will keep you posted with the news of the grey in the photos above. Hope they will be able to solve this one soon. Poor little thing

Thanks Greywings, my baby is doing fine, its like he just discovered food and keeps his head in the food bowl, trying to discover different tastes. NOt much goes in but Im glad he is excited about the fresh food I offer him. Seems to like the different colors.

Pookie checking out his food and picking a a piece of carrot. Its the first time he eats on his own...seems like hes got a new hobby. We tried the harness on today, seems very big, but we will keep practicing using it temporarily until the avaiator harness arrives. Hope you like those pix

no warm compress over an inflamed area, on contrary, a cold one is better (if she allows you). Try to keep her away from picking it so it doesn't get worse Please keep us posted after the vet visit Hoep she gets well soon

Little things can mean a lot...today my baby offered his foot up to step up on my hand....a very small baby step...that meant a lot At the breeders, my baby was living in a plastic box, once he came home, a big cage was waiting for him. I put some papers and a towel at the bottom for the cage so he feels more secure. Yesterday I removed a section of the papers at the corner of the cage to see if he is able to walk on the bottom bars of the cage....but the poor thing was afraid...yet when he wanted to poop, he turned his little red tail and pooped right over that empty spot (over the bars, where there are no papers)...isnt that smart???

Hi again, called the vet and he confirmed its the normal opening to the crop. Seems Im being too paranoid, but better paranoid than having to deal with a problem

I have seen a photo on this website : http://theparrotuniversity.com/arthandfeeding2.php Image 9 shows the inside of a baby's mouth. It seems the hole I saw is a normal thing Anyway Im calling the vet to verify

I was feeding my baby this morning ( he is 11 weeks old now) , and for the first time I have a clear look of whats inside his mouth. At the back of his throat I see an opening, it looks like a hole. Is that normal?? He was seen by a vet on Saturday, the day I got him and vet said he is a healthy baby He is eating well (formula by a spoon), pooping regularly and playing and walking around. Seems happy and active, he even perched for the first time yesterday and is very much interested in the new toys I introduced. I am only concerned if this hole is a normal thing or caused by a previous injury I am checking out African grey anatomy but havent found anything so far Any comments? Please help

Thank you so much Jayd, will do as suggested. Today he nibbled at some bran flakes, he seemed to enjoy it. I really appreciate your advice and will try the peanut butter as suggested

This is called red factor, it can be genetic or a disorder. It might go away after the molt. Its something very cute actually and some greys have it on a much larger scale like this photo (genetic alteration): http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_LhI5q-Fl9rE/SgCfN5xo-NI/AAAAAAAAADk/W3SceO2K70g/s320/red_20stripe_20best%5B1%5D.jpg or this http://www.freeadgo.com/usa/images/listings/bigThmb/2012/11/28/2_all_red_red_factor_african_grey_young_female.jpg

Its really an awesome experience to have a baby grey. So different from having an adult one. I got my first grey when he was 2.5 years old and I didnt get to experience all the little stuff that we take for granted. Today Pookie went up on his perch (which I kept very close to the bottom of the cage) alone. It is something new he wasnt able to do in the past 2 days. Little stuff, like how an older grey catch things with their talons...the baby doesnt know how to do it. Pookie was trying to play with a little bell and he tried to balance on one foot and use the other to help himself catch the hanging bell, but his little talon doesnt know how to grab stuff yet... I gave him a small peace of shredded almond, he was trying to break it, and it wasnt easy but he finally did it.... All this little stuff are so normal for a bigger grey and it amazes me to see the small one learning to do it... It is really so so cute that I couldnt but share it with you... Here is a photo of him standing (for the first time) on the perch

And at this stage, should I encourage flight attempts? Any special precautions? As for the food, he (or she) are still on baby formula only, fed with a small spoon now. Hopefully by the time he fledges, he will be able to eat some on his own. Thanks for the tip Jayd, you are awesome :*
