2. Thanks guys...its been few days with Kooki and I dont know who is more attached to the other me or him...he wont go to sleep because he wants to stay in the same room with me...I sit by his cage in complete darkness like you would sit near a baby to put him to sleep and wait for him to sleep, while he keeps peeking at me from under the cage cover... hes so lovely and he raise his foot like he is saluting me to make me understand that he wants to be picked up... Its nice to discover him but what concerns me is that he is eating only seeds and nothing else. He used to eat some pellets at his previous home but here he refuses, Im not sure if I shouldnt offer him any seeds cos he is eating nothing else What do you guys suggest? {Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}
3. I guess african greys are lovely as God created them. They are really adorable and I think a person who messes up the genes to get something he can sell for 150000 usd is a sick person. Just think that if this person loved his parrot, he wouldnt sell it for all the money in the world, so breeding with mutation purpose for the purpose of huge bux is something intolerable... :ohmy: :evil: :dry:

Help!

Just wanna mention, that if your bird is scratching your hands a lot, it would be preferable if you can wash his feet well and his nails and too or at least wipe them out, also you must go wash your hands immediately when they are scratched to make sure you do not develop any skin infections Patience and love will do it all... {Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/03/09 19:37

Help!

Hi Joyce My bird is with me since a little over a week now, in the beginning he used to grip my fingers so hard when he steps up, now that hes more comfortable with me and he is more assured that I will not drop him or harm him, he relaxes his grip and actually hold on softly to my hand. I noticed when I put him on the swing for the first time he gripped on it so hard cos it wasnt really sturdy and stable, so just give him some time to trust you and he will perch on your hand in a more relaxed way. Also in a while and when hes more relaxed with you , you can try to file his nails, it will be easier... Good Luck {Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}

8. Hi and welcome Maria Nice having you and your flock on the forum Your birds must be very lucky to have a whole room on their own...I once read that each bird likes to have his or her own space but with a whole room they will all have lots of favorite spots and activities and freedom. Im concerned about you having to keep all that clean so good luck {Nature-00020095}
9. Hi Lainee Welcome to our grey family Nice photos of Roxie Hope you are getting along together well Since Roxie is not showing interest in vegies, try bean sprouts, you can sprout them your self and greys love them, they are very nutricious you can also try nuts like almonds, pistacio, walnuts, peanuts, even macademia. You can try once in a while chilli pepper or ginger Keep trying until Roxie finds her favourits corn on the cob or baby corn are also great Best of luck... Rana
10. wow great...so does he have healthy baby greys? By the way I got one, KOOKIE, hes around 4 years old, very talkative and sweet...you gotta come visit and see him... {Nature-00020095}
11. Hi Nickname Im glad Sooty is better now. I hope that infection disappears in no time. What Judy told you was right. Those birds behaviour must be watched closely. They tend to hide their sickness and by the time it shows, it means its really in a late stage. Very small behavioral changes can be a hint. Like if a bird was friendly with your friends and visitors and suddenly stops being friendly. If the eating is less, poop is less or different, less movement and playfulness, even if the bird sits in his or her cage for longer than usual, or cuddles more than usual...all this has to be watched closely. I believe that the bird might not be able to tell you he needs you, but will try to show it by being dependent more than the usual manner. It indicates something is bothering him.. Best of luck with Sooty and please keep us updated
12. I have done this also. I hope Kooki likes it, anyway its cheap and easy to make and can be used for training your parrot

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/03/08 21:36
13. Thanks , my new bird Kooki is sweet, hes not eating much, so Im not sure if hes like this or its just due to home change. He eats in the morning, then very few times during the day. He seems to be more toying with the food than really eating. he comes to my hand and I take him out. Hes getting used to his play stand and loving it, he seems to happily distroy the small stuff I made him, but that I guess it makes him happy to break thinks into small pieces. He is not as timid as before, but eating is not improving much. He doesnt seem to like his pellets soaked. I tried warm water, orange juice, mango juice, even cranberry, but he was not interested. he takes the dry pellets and break them into pcs and throws them away... he thinks its a game I don wanna push him so much, maybe his eating habits are different, but my old gray Koki used to eat 4 times those quantities, though she was a baby... Everyday with him is a new experience and Im loving it.. Thats all news for now...oh and by the way, he seems to hate cameras and mobile phones..as if he doesnt like his picture taken..even without flash...funny guy... {Nature-00020095}

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/03/08 18:15

15. Hi I was just thinking about osewell hoping you have found her family Any News? {Nature-00020095}
16. Thank you for your comments, I have named the bird Kooki, he seems to be excited and a little weary discovering his new home I have posted 3 photos of him and I will post a couple more. He says hello too and lots of birdy love {Nature-00020095}
17. {Nature-00020095} After my Koki went to heaven, I have finally found a CAG to adopt me He is around 4.5 years, sweet and funny, but he is trying to get used to his new home:blink: Its a strange place for him, new cage...stand and toys...but he is starting to like it.. I am sure he finds lots of love too, so he will get used to it soon and will start to enjoy his new family:cheer: The strange noises around him suprise him sometimes, so he drops the almond from his beek, but its OK cos someone picks it up and hands it back to him...hmmm yummy... {Nature-0002009B}
18. Thanks a lot carloz7 i will try with my KOKI {Nature-00020095}
19. Wow..how creative...doesnt the bird get tangled p in that?
20. Good...its funy but it shows that your bird trusts you...
21. Thanks The nice thing is that I can always change the toys and ladders and stuff.\Koki loves it
22. I dont want to be too dramatic, but im really concerned. Check out this link http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm
23. nice idea, just wanna be sure , is it ok to use the cocnut wood. Also do u have any idea if I can give fresh coconut to my bird?
24. Please try to avoid the use of microwave to heat water or food for your parrot. I am not really sure how the microwace may change the chemical composition of water or food once heated in it, but after reading about it, i have tried one experiment of watering a quite healthy plant with microwaved water (after cooling down of course) and the plant got weak and yellowish in about 2 weeks time, so I started really to get concerned about microwave heating... I will do some research and post the findings. In the mean time, please avoid the use of microwave to heat food for your parrot...
25. I am still trying with my bird, he didnt like it with mango, orange, or cranberry juice. Ill try with some warm water though. Now for EFGriffith: Please try to avoid the use of microwave to heat water or food for your parrot. I am not really sure how the microwace may change the chemical composition of water. i have tried one experiment of watering a quite healthy plant with microwaved water (after cooling down of course) and the plant got weak and yellowish, so I started really to get concerned about microwave heating... Just be careful
