Oh what a beauty... I guess thats pretty normal color of beak Actually most Timneys have a much lighter color I guess other more experienced members could give their opinions Bust surely hes a very handsome grey Rana
-
Oh I didnt know that beaks may change color, Kookies beak is still black, but is fast growing and we need to trim every 3 months, cos it gets too long.... I also heard that some can have an idea of the greys age by his beak, is there any truth in this???

Hello and welcome in our family God Bless you for homing Mezmo Would love to see pix of him and your flock

And today...they are both competing who talks more....its like they are continuously reapting any word they ever learned in their lives....OMG Ive always known that Kookie is very talkative...but Rambo....he talks nonstop, doesnt even stop to catch his breath..... What I noticed is that Rambo learns words very quickly from Kookie...he is talking in arabic now few words that Kookie always repeats...very funny though Kookies voice is much much louder than Rambo...so is it quite normal that some greys have a much higher voice than others??? Just wondered I am recording a video of their conversaions now, Kookie is a little shy around the camera, but I hope it comes out well and I will upload it to this thread

Amazing how those little ones have big brains...really amazing

Hi Everyboody, sorry for my late update, but you know the time needed to care for one grey...and now I have 2 in addition to my full time job... The daily mess they create is huge...competing who throws his food further in the room...LOL but Im loving it... So now they are more familiar, Kookie still loves having his friend here and wants to play and interact, but the little Rambo wont let him. Everytime they get a bit close they both fluff their feathers and start the head bobbing (i am a scary beast) action Kookie still wants to share his food (banana today) with Rambo, and Rambo still doest want Kookie close to him Rambo is a little shy, although I kept his cage door open when Im around he didnt come out till today, and he is sitting on top of his cage looking wearily at Kookie This evening they are communicating, cos Rambo is whisteling (ear piercing) and Kookie is responding with the same tone Every now and then they look at each other and you hear a "hooooo" from Rambo and an echo from Kookie I dont know if its a language or what but Kookie still says to Rambo I love you and Rambo was saying Hello Rambo is allowing me to scratch his head today but he wont step up on my hand even though I showed him how Kookie does it He looks at Kookie playing on his play stand, but I guess he is still not sure if he wants to be there or not.... I guess thats all for tonight and will update you with the new stuff tomorow Hope you enjoy the pix

Hi Kookie is theolder one, around 5 years, while Rambo is only a year and a half (quite aggressive for his age) Kookie seems so in love with him, and want to share even his loved almonds, but still Rambo wants only to bite him. Today I left for work, keeping them each in his cage, with cages on opposite sides of the room. Kookie was telling Rambo ''hey...pppsssttt, I love you..."and Rambo nibbling on his food I came back to find them both napping Lets see how their friendship will develop... Ill keep you posted and post some pictures this evening

A small travel cage deffinitly, a cheap and practical way, and is ideal for spending the weekend visiting a friend, also works well in the car, I fasten the seatbelt around it to make sure Kookie is secure in place while I drive.

Hi everybody, Just wanted to share some action with you.. A friend dropped his grey "Rambo" a while ago at my place. He will leave him here for a week, while he travels abroad. Ramo is around a year and a half old, and it seems Kookie fell right in love with him. Rambo is kinda scared of Kookie and a bit aggressive. Kookie flies to Rambo's cage and they start to touch beaks, but seems that Rambo, want to play rough. Kookie tries to show off his beautiful feathers, but still Rambo is quite uncomfortable..... Now Kookie seems a bit uncomfortable too, so Im keeping a close eye on those two to see how things will turn up Kookie used to live with a maccaow and a cockatoo when he was at his previous owners, so he loves being about other birds, but for Rambo, this might be a strange situation.... Anybody can give some advice on what is the best way to get them to accept each other, or shall I kkeep them sepaarted for now? (kookie free to go around the house, and Rambo in his cage)?

Kookie doesnt like pasta....cooked or not...hes not fan of Italian Food.... but I agree with Jilly Beanz, most of it is gonna end up shredded on the floor...

HI There I havent heard of any necessary veccine for greys, nither did any of the vets or other owners recommended. Normally a healthy diet and lots of attention and love is wha your grey needs...you give them this and they will live long to tell....

amazingly cute... how old is he?

They are yummy...a lot and so healthy especially for our skin...and many swear they have anti-aging effects... They are great antioxidants and not so rich in sugar.. So After I read a few articles about them, and about their seeds, I decided to give a try with Kookie, since he was going crazy for them...so we tried with a small part, just to test... after 24 hours and since nothing was observed with Kookie, we went for a full fruit...and oh my...he loved it till the last piece.... This was day before yesterday and Kookie is still as chatty and loud as ever...the only thing is that he is calling himself "naughty" all the time.....LOL so could it be the effect of the rambutan??? I wonder....

Hes Lovely...aren't we a crazy bunch when it comes to our greys???

I do agree with Judy, especially if your grey spends long time inside the cage. My grey has a cage like yours, its actually small but since he spends most time out of it I didnt shift into a bigger one...

Hi Hattan, Nice to have you in our grey family and Im sure you will find tons of advice and helpful info. Now concerning your questions, I will try to answer what I know, but there are lots of people more expert that I am who will certainly give you great advice. Q1: My parrot is 1 year and few months old, is it still easy to make him love me? and how? (Can't wait till that day come ) A1. I got my grey when he was 4 years old and he loves me a lot, so it is never to late. Your grey is still actually a baby and you can do a lot of training and behavior modifications. Just be patient and loving. It will take time for him to trust you, but you will enjoy every moment. Q2: My parrot seems don't love to stay in the cage, is it ok to let him out of the cage all the time? A2.Time outside the cage is very important. My grey spends at least 8 hours daily outside his cage on his play stand and he loves it. He goes back to his cage for eating, drinking and of course sleeping & napping. If you take him out to play, make sure to keep drinking water close by Q3: Is it right that if I let him out of the cage all the time that he thinks he's the boss and won’t care about me? A3. I don’t think that’s right, but he should get used to some schedule or routine, like coming out to play in the morning after his breakfast, then back to his cage for lunchtime, or nap time and so on. Routine is very essential and comfortable for them Q4: I have heard that I should not let the food in his cage all the time so reward thing work perfectly, is it right? A4. NO Not right, you should keep plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables all the time in their cage. I do also keep my grey’s pellet bowl full all the time, but I limit his seeds, so that I can use them for training purpose, as for the treats, he gets them when he goes to his cage quietly when its time for me to go to work. I also hide treats in his cage in places for him to find it during the day, like between his toys and in his toy basket and so on… Q5: How I let him play with the toys i get for him? A5. Toys can be either interesting for them, so he would want to have it immediately, or might be a little strange and scary, so you have to try. If he likes it, he will go to it immediately, if he doesn’t, then you have to introduce it to him slowly, cos greys in general are skeptical. First make sure the toy is safe, then you can introduce it by putting it in the same room far from his cage and bring it gradually closer to him every day or 2. Also it helps if you would hold the toy, play with it, bring it closer to your face and mouth so he starts to feel its safe. Most important is not to force them or scare him, just go with his own pace. Q6: Which way is better: 1-Make his cage in my room, and if i go out of home he will be almost alone. 2-Make his cage in the living room, and he rarely will be alone, but I wont be able to be with him all the time, as I do my things in my room. Normally best location in the home is the center of the home where there is always activity and people and sounds, but also it should be somewhere he can have a good night sleep, cos greys need to sleep for around 12 hours, so a tv in the room might not help at all. You can consider a sleep cage in a calm corner of the house, or you might keep the cage in a quiet place, but place the play stand in the living room. You can also keep another play stand in your room so that you can spend time together. Just make sure that the cage or playstand is not in a direct air current, or direct sunlight. Also take care of windows and doors, especially if you will let your grey fly or roam around the room. One more thing is to make sure there is nothing dangerous around that may get your grey in trouble (like electric cables, chemicals, detergents, candles, air fresheners, open water …..) Q7: How do I learn him "Step up" command? ( dreaming that he steps up all the time )? There is a lot of training methods and on this forum you will find lots of interesting stuff in the training room, go through them and try. Im sure soon you will find the best way to train your grey, it only take patience Q8: Bathing, bathing and bathing .. How? I always try but he don't enjoy it at all, and he let his feathers together and the water don't go through to his skin. Its OK, that’s quite normal. Some greys bathe on their own, just place a bowl of clean water and observe if he might bathe on his own, if not, then you should find a way convenient for both you and him. Kookie my grey doesn’t really love bath, but we do it once a week, he has a stand that I place in the bath tub, and I sprinkle him from the shower with warm water. He bears it for few minutes and that’s enough to clean his feathers from dust and to moisten his skin. You might choose to spray him with a sprayer but in all cases, try not to get lots of water into his beak and nostrils. Q9: About rewarding, what's the best treat as reward? You will discover what he loves best, Kookie loves almonds, peanuts, peanut butter, and nuts in general. Just try and you will find out what he likes best Q10: Is it ok to spray him daily with water? I guess its ok, but Im not sure if its necessary or not, depending on your area and climate. So if it’s a dry climate, you need to spray him more often cos greys like humidity. I hope my answers satisfy you and Im sure other members will offer their valuable advice. Enjoy life with your grey companion

Hi, Its been a while that i havent logged in and I miss you guys... OMG this new forum is completely different than it used to be... Im not recognizing my way around it but Ill get used to it I wanted to know if any of you ever tried to give your grey a Rambutan fruit or its seed. Rambutan is so close to Lychee and I couldnt find any info about it I know its very rich in vitamin C and is a good antioxidant. Kookie saw me eating that and he was so desperate to get one, but I wasnt sure. He seems like he know it or has eaten it before, cos he is always reluctant to try anything new, but he was so excited when he saw this fruit, so my guess is that he knows it from his previous owners. Ill post few pix of it, so please let me know if you have any info

I hope he gets better soon, and God bless you for all the efforts you make he looks very cute

All the best, I hope he'll be standing up soon
