I have a Blue Front zon who just turned 6 years old. Louie has been with me since he was 1 1/2 years old.
Blue Front Amazons to me are great and loving parrots.
All my pets are chipped, except my canary. When I lived in the country I had a German Shepard who would carry wood with me but loved to swim the River and people were always picking him up and taking him home. If they would just leave him alone he would have come home. Thankfully, the people would take him to the vet and the vet would call me. Once I had to run an ad in the Lost in Found and the only reason I got him back was because they knew by his actions that he was very loved and cared for. They knew he was owned by a family with children because he was so sweet to little kids. They keep him for over a week. Not everyone is honest unfortunately. I am a huge advocate for micro-chipping.
Oh my. So glad your puppy is still with you and now healthy. Owls, hawks, eagles all of of the predator birds will do this type of attack. Being a country girl at heart, I have seen a lot of dive bomb attacks and lost small animals to these types of birds. Your puppy is very lucky to be here with you. Stay alert.
No cats here but I have babysit my grandson's cat when he has been out of town. My parrots do not land on the floor or go anywhere near the floor but my TAG would stalk my grandson's cat, Issac, and follow him around. Issac would spend the weekend under my couch afraid of my parrots. I would never leave them alone with each other.
The cat you are getting is already an adult so if I were you, I would be very careful.
Hi to you Burak and Budu. Sounds like you have had oodles of experience with a grey. Can't wait to hear more about you and your new grey. Pictures would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to the Grey family!
My Ana Grey will raise her foot for a shake. When I say, "How about a shake"? Up comes the foot. She will also touch her beak to my cheek if I ask for a kiss.
My TAG, when she came to me at 4 months was clipped. Love those breeders who believe greys MUST be clipped so their new owners won't lose them. Ana Grey would jump off of her cage and everywhere. She so wanted to fly and would take off clipped or not. There is no way to really stop them as they instinctively know they are suppose to fly. Pad around her jumping area and relax. My floors are hardwood and Ana Grey never crushed herself.
A knotted rope also helps clipped birds get down or up.
If you have ever watched baby birds leave the nest they are up there in a tree and they survive their first take off so relax.
Mahi could go back into her cage if she wanted. Stop feeding her outside her cage. Make sure there are her favorite eats inside the cage and relax. Mahi is crashing because she is scared, I believe. Talk to her and let her relax and go back into her cage on her own. No more outside feeding. You also need to relax, our birds can sense our feelings so if we are upset so are they. They read body language very well.
That should work, if not. Dim the lights and move her. Birds do not normally move around in the dark. Check where Mahi is and then turn off the lights and go get her and put her back in her cage if you must. Use a flashlight of necessary.
Hi Spencer. First try to get all the information the current owners have on this grey. What is his current routine, diet and does he like people. Is he a friendly sort or shy. Is he flighted or clipped. Getting as much information as you can on your new friend will certainly help you know how to interact with him.
What is this grey's name. Details please.
And oh yeah........ Welcome to the Grey family. If we can help, we will certainly try.
My CAG is a big guy (505g) and likes water; but he does not drink obsessively but much more than my TAG and ZON. I give him lots of foods that retain water. Strawberries, cherries and noodles. Perhaps your home is overly dry have you tried a humidifer. I would have your avian vet check to see if you TAG has an infection of any kind. Perhaps he has a slight fever or the room is overly dry. Do you let your grey out to fly or perch in your home, give him things to keep him busy. Do you give him baths or spray him with water/aloe vera juice. See that he gets ways to stay hydrated other than drinking.
Be patient and don't react. I said "Damn Bird" in frustration and my CAG would say this phrase with feeling. Just has I had. Finally, he has stopped saying this phrase. It has taken a few months but I do not hear this phrase. Be patient and praise other actions.
I am so sorry for the loss of Marden. How is Megan doing? She will need you to help her cope with Mar's loss. Know that you did all you could and be strong. We are here for you.
