Cricket does sound like a sweetheart. I am still trying to get Louie to trust me. He wants to, but it is still reluctant. He doesn't know how to step up and he still reaches out to bite me. He reaches out to grab my clothing to get to my shoulder but when I acknowledge him, he backs off. He will fly away if I offer him a shoulder or an arm to step up on. We do have a slight problem, I take meds which thin my blood and have to be careful not to get any infections, because of my artificial heart valve. Yeah have to take penicillin even to have my teeth cleaned. Anyhow Louie and I are both trying slowly but surely. Louie loves toys, especially wooden toys and he destroys them. I mean chews them to shreds. I wish I knew how to use a skill saw, he is very hard on toys! Louie is only 3 years old and he is a very smart and loving zon. I envy the relationship you and Cricket have and hope someday that Louie and I will have one like it. I love to hear about Cricket, Ray P. and could certainly use your expertise in taming her.

Best System to Hang Toys from Ceiling
Luvparrots replied to chezron's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
I use toggle screws in my ceiling to hang things, if I don't like a chosen place, I can patch it and move on. Unfortunately, my zon, Louie, is very strong and loves to twist and pull until he makes everything come crashing down. Yes this guy can unscrew bolts as well. But then Ana Grey can unscrew jar caps little stinker!!!! Shutter to think what they could do if they where human children!!!! Oh my goodness!!!! LOL!!!! -
I always have pellets in my parrots cages. It is just a "if I don't like the menu" thing for them. They seldom eat any. My ekkie usually dips some in his water and Ana Grey just crushes them to dust. My parrots are not much for fruit, a slice of apple is what they really like and grapes now and then. Ana Grey likes to steal a nip from my juice glass ever other day or so. Lots of fresh veggies/cooked veggies and pasta, rice and beans are in my parrots menus. They all love pistachios and pecans (no salt), not much so for peanuts, walnuts or almonds. A dab of cheddar cheese is a real treat for my fids, they love cheese! Scrambled eggs at least one a week with veggies. I also have freeze-dried veggies and fruits I put in my fids' cages which they enjoy at night or early AM.

I spray my parrots with Aloe Vera juice and water all the time. My zon and tag love it and open their wings and feathers so that they are totally soaked. They even turn in the spray to get their backsides all wet. Now my ekkie just tolerates it but he really doesn't complain much. I never spray them with straight aloe vera juice, what a sticky mess that would be!!!!! About 2/3 water to 1/3 juice is what I use but absolutely more water than juice.

will adopting another grey hurt my relasionship with my current grey
Luvparrots replied to luv4jjt's topic in The GREY Lounge
Yes pecking order is a must. My TAG has been with me first and although she is smallest of my ekkie, zon and tag (a young cag will be joining us soon), she is quite feisty and will dive bomb the other two older re-homed parrots. My zon as just started coming into my office (a couple of times so far) and Ana Grey will dive bomb him until "Hell Freezes Over" as this is her "private space" with me. Louie does defend himself and so this is a small battle I have with them to make sure both are injury free. Ana Grey is fearless. And these are two alpha personalities. This kind of battle use to go on in the birdroom for months when I first got Louie/the Zon but has now stopped in that room. Hopefully it will calm down in my office as well. I just have to be very vigilant. -
Congratulations on your little lady!!!!!! Love the name you have choosen!!!

My ekkie is around 10 years old and doesn't scream when he is "sexual." He just gets very mean and wants to run his tongue over my arm and latch on with his beak. Quite scary and I have had to distract his actions.
-
I have an ekkie, but Sully is usually a pretty quiet parrot. He does scream when he wants something: 1. To have the lights turned off at 7:00 pm. He will scream until I shut them off. 2. If he gets lonely and wants to know where I am, he will scream for me. But quiets down once I talk to him. Otherwise he is a good and quiet ekkie. I really am not much help on this matter. I too would be concerned about a health problem if this is not something he has done before.

Malikah, I have been faithfully giving Sully, my eclectus, hemp seed, actually I give it all my parrots as it is supposedly great in vitaimins. Anywho, I don't believe it is helping my chronic plucker so far. Perhaps Sully just plucked for too long to be able to do any different (he was plucked when found about 10 years ago). I will still continue to try to help him, but I fear it is a habit he may be addicted to. But I will not give up!!!!!

Love the pictures of your wife and Mocha and Cocoa!!!! What a great camera, but then you have some great looking subjects too!!!!!

Great looking bird room Robin!!!!! Everyone is so gorgeous and Yoshi fits in real fine!!!!! Great job on getting everyone use to each other. I am totally impressed! Love it!!!!
-
Very nice!!!!! Thanks for sharing your backyard friends with us!!!

You have been give some great suggestions that work for different members of the forum. Although I have a bird room for my parrots, I do hear them talking and playing after lights out. So try different methods and see what works for your grey. By the way, what is her name?

Shasta does have a great beat going there. Very cute!!!!
-
What great pictures of you and Simon!!!! And yes, he is a cutie!!!

Now ParrotLawyer, don't be cruel and keep Hunter from his fans. I have grown to love hearing about Hunter's progress and will truly miss him if a dose of Hunter isn't injected. So as a member of this forum who has two (2) re-homed parrots, and who also believes in adopting and re-homing if at all possible, please keep us posted about Hunter and Amy also as they are part of the GreyForum family now and I for one love to hear about my family!!!!!!

Great video of Murphy enjoying his Jazz!!!! Totally loved it!!!!!
-
Very cute picture of Brutus!!!!! Someone needs to get a spray bottle on that boy!!!!! LOL!!!! He seems to love water. When I spray Ana Grey she runs up to the top of her playstand and spreads her wings for a shower. She will even turn on occasion!!!!
-
If I give Louie a spoon he would chomp it up!!!! My budget in wooden toys for Mr. Destructor is enormous!!!!! But better his toys than my woodwork!!!!!
-
LOL Penny, my kids just call me crazy!!!! LOL!!!! They are all cat and dog people!!!! (How did that happen????) The only reason they tolerate my flighted friends is because they know if I didn't have them (the birds) I would be pestering them all the time!!! LOL!!!! Flock: 1 TAG - Ana Grey 1 Zon - Louie 1 Eclectus - Sully soon - 1 CAG - Isabella

Our greys are flock creatures and they like to be with the family so I can understand your grey wanting to interact with the family when they come and go. My greys are in their cages if the lights off by 7:00 pm at night. They are in the cages by 6:30 pm and eat their evening snacks and then head for their special sleeping perches. If lights aren't out at 7:00 pm my male eclectus will scream until the lights are out. My birds free fly all day long as I live alone and they are flighted so they can go to a quiet corner during the day if they want to nap. So I believe as long as there are quiet times in your home, when kids are in school or baby napping and hubby working your grey will snooze if he wants to do so. Mine do.

Hi Dee, we would need to see some pictures of the grey you are talking about. I have a TAG which only weighs in at 298 grams. She is on the dark side and has a cream colored beak now at 2 1/2 years. The picture of Ana Grey in my Avatar is her at 4 months old. She did have a black beak at that age. So can't wait to see a picture of the grey in question. Bart also sounds like an interesting grey and pictures of Bart would be great also. I am looking forward to hearing more about Bart. Welcome to the Grey family!

So how is Hunter today ParrotLawyer? Is he more calm today and getting more use to you and your GF I am curious to know how well Hunter and your Amazon get along as my TAG was very aggressive toward my Zon at first and still wishes he would leave home!!!!! Sorry Ana Grey, not going to happen!!!! LOL!
-
I have a very jealous 2 1/2 year old TAG who I will be introducing a 4 month old CAG to shortly, so I am curious to find out what works for others also. Ana Grey will be the smallest for my four parrots but she has always been the feistious ( is that even a word) of the lot.

Can't wait to see some pictures of your chosen one!!!!! Congratulations!!!!
