Our House Rules!!! (as stipulated by parrots)
SchroedersJen replied to Luvparrots's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
Greyt rules. I showed them to my husband and he finallly "gets it" -
Southern California (Orange County), thought I have also lived in France and Austria....... I keep coming home to CA though....perhaps I just like being close to Disneyland thought the mountains and ocean dont hurt either.

You know, it's really easy not to laugh after you whack your toes against the kitchen table diving to keep the bird from crashing into the wall.....But yes, he is too smart for my own good and a very happy, albeit spoiled boy. I may have to invest in a plastic bubble to keep him in if this keeps up. This morning he seems a bit tired.

I dont know, Nutriberries are pretty good........ Cute story though, thanks for the smile! -
Our senegal, Buddy, does that when we talk to hmi and our faces are w/in 4 inches of his. If he didn't do this to everyone all the time, Id think I had bad breath. Now I just think he is a spaz. I will follow this thread closley and see if anyone has an answer to the question. I doubt it's an ear infection in his case as I know the woman that hatched Buddy and she told me that he has done that his whole life. His previous owners noticed it too. I hope Rhett is healthy too. It might be that our fids are just spazzy.

Schroeder entered his terrible 2s today, I find it kinda fitting that he did it on his second hatchday (Happy hatchday SchroedE Muffins). At bedtime he flat out refused to be tucked in and flew across the room several times, laughing at me when he landed. He ran around yelling "no no no no no" as I tried to catch him. I had to towel him to get him in the cage and when I got him in there he said, "rats!" He settled down quickly, but as soon as I turned the lights off he started talking and vocalizing and playing with his toys in the dark. It is now 2 hours since I tucked the little twerp in and he is still at it. When I turned the light on earlier to go calm him down, I was amused and annoyed to see him swinging upside down in his cage. He looked over and in a very annoyed voice said "what? what? what?" (I say that to them a lot when they are being loud when I am trying to work). Just think, he only started talking a few weeks ago and now he is talking back in context and being a defiant stinker. This is going to be a looooooooooooong ride.

Anyone that says that birds dont bite in the wild can go to Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco and see all of the pidgeons missing toes. I doubt very much that that many birds were born missing them. This is a great thread. Thanks Dan!

My husband has a very colorful vocab and he is unwilling to modify it....sooner or later they are both going to be chatting like geeky frat boys.

I agree Steve, that was a great intro. I allow my tag to fly as well, and he spends a lot of time outdoors in a special outside cage. To say he LOVES it out there would be an understatement. You may want to consider it. They don't get much vitamin d from their diet, and really need the sunshine. Also, having some time away when they think dad isnt looking gives them a chance to do some really silly stuff, you can watch through a window. It's better than the TV! It sounds like you are both taking wonderful care of your FIDS, and I am so happy that you are having a great bird experience. Welcome to the forum. I am looking forward to getting to know you, your birds, seeing many charming pictures and hearing a bevy of stories. Happy posting!

SchroedersJen replied to CarolandFamily's topic in The GREY Lounge
Yeah, I was visiting my dad this weekend (first time ive seen him in 12 years) Schroeder wouldnt get off my head or let him go anywhere near me for the first hour. He was sweet after that, but that little guy sure has my back! -
Yes, I recently had to stop the naughty talk with my husband in front of the birds when Schroeder said "Boobies!!!" and Buddy followed with "oh baby" Good thing mom is hard of hearing and my niece was watching Spongebob.....father's day sure was interesting.
-

You go on holiday, but everyone else has to work and your birds have made plans w/o you. You are bored and alone all day. I wish that in a room with 500 other people w/ jury duty today, I could find at least one person that has an IQ higher than a houseplant to talk to.
-
Schroeder has a Facebook page (stop laughing) and he has a Facebook girlfriend (I mean it, stop laughing) His "girlfriend" is an 11 year old timneh (named gizzy grey if you wish to look her up) that is still very active and playful.....so I think you have at least 9 good years left j/k.

I have been using economates in my BMW and it works well. Has not caused any pinging, does not afffect the warranty and has extended the life of my tank of gas from about 280 miles to about 360. I use about 2 dollars of product per tank. The stuff is enviro friendly, doesnt stink and is really great. You can read about it at reducemyemissions.com. The girl I buy it from is named Kelly and her phone number is 949-212-1927. Sorry if this is against forum posts. Since it addresses the complaint and I am not the one selling the stuff, I am hoping that people don't mind the info.

That sucks. Suddenly the annoyance of having an insulin pump stuck to my butt cheek isnt so bad. Good luck. Maybe your winged darling can sit on your head? I stick my birds up there when they are gunning to chew on my pump tube. It is kinda silly when I answer the door like that, but the hair preening feels really good.

The thing that is going to work in your favor is the fact that they will learn best when they are having a good time, and if they are having a good time, they wont want to fly away. Their ability to leave when they are finished with training for the day will hellp save you a lot of time and frustration when they have reached their capacity for that training session.

I don't know Judy, he might be serious........That egg is a little cracked, ya know.

A client of mine had a bird that escaped and she paid a graphics company to place a missing bird with photo and phone number on her car. EVERYONE around her home saw it that way. She also sent weekly faxes to all of the vets within a 50 mile radius (birds get around) It took 9 months, but she did get her baby back, thought slightly worse for the wear. I think the thing that worked for her was being consistant and not doing 99% of her effort in the first week. I wish you the best of luck. Please keep reminding people that your angel is missing. Dont let your neighbors forget to keep an eye out.

2 is a bit young, but in fairness, no 2 birds are exactly alike. My sister and I hit sexual maturity at different ages, birds do too. Some are late bloomers and some are early bloomers. Toos do best on a schedule. They should be played with and snuggled with consistantly, at similar times during the day. They also need to learn how to entertain themselves or they can get frantic when you arent there to play, so they should be left in their cage and alone at similar times during the day as well. Having a schedule is great for these birds because it helps them learn that their present statte is not permanant. They will learn that its ok to be alone because they wont be alone forever. They will learn to enjoy their snuggles but that they need to be able to entertain themself as well because the snuggles wont last forever. It will cut down on the amount of surprise and irritation they have when it is time for them to go in their cage because they will expect it and come to regard it as another part of their normal day. Bird talk had a great article about happy toos a few months back, there was a Major mitchells too on the cover. I suggest you try to locate a copy and read it. I will keep an eye out for you as well.

Goffins do not get as big,and are not as emotionally demanding, but they are demanding trouble makers. So far as as lous goes.....sure, they are less loud than a U2 or M2, but they can still drive you nuts. They can drive your grey nuts too. Be careful. You will not be able to leave the bird unattended for any length of time. If you leave your bird to go to the bathroom and the cage door is open, when you get back, you will have a mess to clean up. Stay on their cage? Why? The whole house is fun to chew on, see dad? Look, I made a nesting hole in your favorite chair. What do you mean I wasnt supposed to chew on moms new ring? The sparkely rocks ARENT supposed to come out? Oh......Huh, throwing the tea cup on the mantle across the room was a bad idea? But is made such a fun noise when it crashed into the wall...... Of course, they arent all like that....but the biggest trouble makers I have encounteres have been goffins and bare eyed toos. I hope you like babysitting.
