  1. My birds have powder coated cages and a big one in the back yard for sunny days. The indoor cages get cleaned and scrubbed every other day (of course the food and water gets switched daily) The outdoor cage gets scrubbed and hosed off weekly. All 3 look as good as the day we brought them home despite the gnawing on from our beavers...errrr...birds and swinging from metal attached toys. With all of the new things you will have to worry about after bringing your baby home, a powder coated cage shouldnt even be on the radar.
  2. Im sure your baby is fine. Schroeder, and many of the young greys I see at work have banged up buns. Schroedee went through a period when he only had 2 tail feathers to speak of....not because he was plucking, but because he was a rough and tumble baby and breaking them all off. As your darling gets older and develops a better sense of how to move, he will bang himself up less and less. It's part of a learning curve that many greys go through.
  3. She renames Harley to Darius Char
  4. Poor little Darius. Quarantine sucks! Give him some snuggles for us. You know what, here, you have some snuggles from us too, poor mama!
  5. Schroeder and buddy wake up and start playing with their toys and eating around sun up. They dont start swuaking and making noise till i get up though. Case in point: My husband gets up about 2 hours before I do. He goes out to the living room and says hi. They are still quiet. When I wake up and sit up in bed, they start making noise IMMEDIATLY. Mike always knows I am waking up because of the noise they make, and not the noise I make. I guess it's because I fix breakfast....that and well, Im a lot more fun >
  6. We stick our birds in the aviator harness. Schroeder loves going out so much that he will get the harness for me when I am looking for my keys. He then sits patiently and growels at me while i stick it on (but he is compliant) and as soon as we are out the door he is one happy bird. Buddy is a bit shy. He hates the harness, hates the carrier, hates going out but hates being left behind even more. Poor Buddy. We are still working with him.
  7. Buddy, my senegal, is constantly picking fights with Schroeder. Schroeder really wants to be friends and letts Buddy pick on him - to a point. When Schroeder has had enough, he launches Buddy across the room.....And then, I hear the cute little senegal wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. No joke.

  9. Schroeder is very good at teasing and ratting my hair when I want to have more volume or a poofy hair style. Buddy wants to be a dentist when he grows up and keeps truing to give me exams, but I am waiting for him to finish an internship first.
  10. Mine will carefully inspect his toy. Gently caress it with his tongue, rub it on his cheek, coo at it AND THEN TEACH IT TO OBEY HIM!!!! I think we have established a pattern My senegal does the same thing, only he skips the nicieties and goes straight to demon posessed beaver mode.
  11. Right now, I live in soouthern california, and my birds are out from 10am to 5:30pm almost every day. I don't know much about UV lighting, except that I have heard that if you cant get a sunburn from it by sticking your hand directly under it for 2 hours, it isn't good enough. Personally, I dont have time to devote 2 hours to trying to get a sunburn on my hand, so I will be waiting to hear back about the lamp as well. We will be moving to WA state soon, and I will need to get a UV lamp. On another note, where did you get the palm nuts? They seem to be reallllllllllllllllly hard to find over here and my birds dont like the oil.
  12. I would love to drink, but my fids would get in the glass and drink it all before I could down the hatch.....so I can't keep it in the house. I will have to drink vicariously through you guys. I have started banging my head against the wall though.......it feels really good when i stop.
  13. My vet, Dr Ikeda, said that if i ever find bugs in the food, to stick it in the freezer and kill the bugs and let the birds to continue to eat it. The bugs are extra protien and fine. They occasionally eat bugs in the wild, and my bitds love freezedried meal worms. Any good bird store will also carry different bug treats. Unless you have reason to believe that the bugs have been treated with pesticide then they are fine to eat if they are dead and a non poisonous type of bug.

  15. I want one! Can you make it in human size?
  16. We have VPI policies for our birds and they are wonderful. They send birthday cards, have an easy claims process and great customer service. You might also consided having your bird on a personal articles (PAP) policy in case he/she escapes or dies. Your home owners or renters insurance agent can quote that for you. There is no deductible. A lot will even cover reasonable expenses like fliers and a small reward to get the pet back if he gets out.
  17. Awwwwwwwwww, pics like this lead to MBS Very cute. Thanks for sharing!
  18. Very nice, Ecko looks quite dapper in the red aviator harness as well. Let us know how trip #2 goes!
  19. Yeah, we have a charm of hummingbirds off our back balcony that are very bold with us. We are going to try this with them over the next few months too.
  20. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Mike and I are scared silly of the move and pretty nervous. It helps to know that the fids will be fine. I would hate for them to be miserable.
  21. Ok, this is random, but I thought some of you would enjoy it. It is a short link of a guy hand feeding hummingbirds. The picture is pretty clear considering how quickly those little guys move, and the guy is only mildly creepy. http://www.wimp.com/feedinghummingbird/
  22. Both of my birds do the same thing. There is more moisture and it is sweeter in the little white nubbin by the roots. They do also eat soil, they do it in the wild. The don't know it but she is correct, they get vitamin content from it. Im guessing with all of the birds owned on this forum, though, that they get better nutrients form other sources. As long as the soil is pestacide free, I don't imagine you will have any problems. I have a huge tub of the stuff growing in Schroeders outside cage and he LOVES it. He even likes to roll in it.
  23. Great video, I also like the one with Dayo on poor Jake's cage. It is the opposite in our house, we have to struggle to get our little senegal to leave Schroeder and his stuff alone. The are both marvelous though. Jake is a peach front, right? He looks pretty big. How much does he weigh?
  24. We bought a house in Centralia, we have decided to wait till spring to move, unless I can find a badass job between now and then. If thats the case we will ship the stuff up asap.
