1. If the so called sellers want money up front for transport or anything else, it's usually a scam. I don't really see any reason that someone who needs to rehome a pet can't sell it in their own state. If they want to rehome a grey or other parrot to another state that is the first red flag or warning. Many people get sucked into these scams, send money for the birds and the bird is never sent. Most times it probably doesn't exist either.

Egg

If I am having eggs I make enough for the flock, too. Plain eggs are just okay to them the way I fix it for me but if I make a batch just for the flock I put the shells in, pellets and some seeds, too. Sometimes I put veggies like bell peppers in it too. When it is "birdie" style eggs they really devour it.
3. Oh Pat, that baby squirrell is so cute. I can't believe he was only 1 inch when you found him. That is wonderful that you nutured and raised him. I would have been very afraid about his size. But you had it in you to do it. Another life saved. Yay!{Feel-good-000200BB}
4. I give my fids regular carrots as well as the baby carrots when they are around and never really thought alot about it. Hmmm, I will have to rethink the baby carrots now. Thanks Jayd for posting this.
5. Thanks. That's a great list. I appreciate you taking the time to inform us for those who don't know.
6. It was my pleasure. I just had to share this little bundle of joy. I think it is best for him. I wanted to put him back up in the tree in his nest but I don't know exactly where he came from and I didn't see any nests where he may have come from. He brightened my day and I think I just might have saved his life today. I just wish I could have found his nest. I am so thankful that our vet here will take in lost and hurt birdies.
7. Thanks for the link. Yes, I was panicked. I didn't know what to do either. Well, yes, I did....I contacted Dave here and unoaded everything on him and of course he knew exactly what to do. He is a godsend (most of the time;) ):laugh: Special thanks to Dave. I will give him some karma later on.
8. Last one of Ichabod Crane. He was already perching on the perch I had inside. I had it low and he seemed to enjoy it. He wasn't that afraid of us either. Gosh, I should have kept him but feel I did the right thing.
9. OMG! Me and my husband were heading out this morning and we seen a small feathered baby bird in our yard. He was hopping around but couldn't fly. He didn't look hurt. I think he was trying his wings out and fell from the tree. I did see a couple of adult birds in the tree making a commotion but did not see a nest anywhere. He was getting all his feathers in and had pretty good control of his body but was still pretty akward. I put him up on a branch but he hopped right back down into the grass. We have a ton of neighborhood cats roaming the area:angry: and I knew he wouldn't last an hour before one of the cats spotted him. I took him in, I mixed up some oatmeal and baby food and fed him with a syringe, just the liquidy stuff and he ate for me. I fell in love right then. I wasn't confident in my caring for him so we called around and our local avian vet said to bring him in, they would care for him and release him when he was ready. So that's what we did. I miss him already. I named him Ichabod Crane in the short amount of time we had him but we took him to the vet, they were ready for him and they took him back for his next feeding right away. They said he was a Greyko? Not sure of the spelling but thats what it sounded like. From the similar birds in our yard I think he might have gotten about the size of a conure or maybe a little bit bigger. Here is some pics of Ichabod. I'm sure he will be fine. The vet clinic was thrilled he arrived
10. I'll be brave...I will be 43 in July. :blink:
11. Don't know what kind it is but it's a cutie for sure:)
12. I agree with Judy. She needs to be seen by a vet right away. The sooner it is seen the sooner it can be corrected. It may not be bothering her eating at the moment but could in the near future. It may also be painful. I think a trip to the vet is in order right away.
13. This same thing happened with Baxter, my grey. He was fine with both of us at first but after awhile Baxter decided he was my bird now and decided he would no longer step up for my husband. If my husband tries, he will step up on him but bite and draw blood from the top of his hand. We have learned to accept this and that I have been chosen as the favorite person. My husband still has a good relationship with him, he just doesn't ask him to step up anymore. He worked on the relationship though and respected Baxters choice of fave and he can still pet him, give him treats, toys, etc, just will not step up. In emergencies my husband will take a long wooden spoon if he needs to put back in his cage for any reason and Baxter has no problems with it. I'm afraid you can't make your grey be a multi person bird but that does not mean he can't still be enjoyed by others.
14. Congradulations on your new ekkie! He might be a plucker but I've seen much worse and he is still gorgeous just the same. I'm sure you will be able to do wonders with him and get him back in perfect feather in no time at all. I have an ekkie and they are wonderful pets but I did noticed that you said he screamed for you when you leave or left the room. I have read and found out first hand that some ekkies do have their screaming fits. According to the book I have, the trick to keep that down is when you first get your ekkie try and keep the attention with him consistant and only spend as much time with him as you are willing to give everyday. If you start giving him more attention for a few days or a week and then want to go back to the normal routine, he might not like that and scream for extra attention. I know in the beginning you do need to spend more time with him and I certainly showered Tigger (my ekkie) with loads of attention at first but once you get the routine down it something you should try and stick to. I am only telling you this because I have a routine with Tigger and he does get plenty of attention but some days I would just take him with much more and kind of call it "Tiggers Day" but the next day he would start his screaming and screaming and screaming, he wanted everyday to be like that:laugh: . I created a monster I thought. But he soon settled back in to the norm. Right now Tigger will scream for me in the mornings and wants some one on one time and then later in the evening he sometimes will scream for me but for the most part he is a very quiet bird and likes to keep to himself alot. He is the lover boy of the flock here though. He is so sweet. I hope this helps and then again all birds are different, too. I just know a ekkie scream can get pretty loud:blink: I'm sure you will really enjoy him and he's lucky to have you. Good luck and keep us posted.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/05/10 21:04
15. I think you are on the right course and finding out alot more that is involved as you check further into it. It doesn't seem to deter you any and it sounds like you are taking this pretty seriously. I have rescued a couple very neglected parrots and although it has been work and TOTAL commitment and dedication, I would not change if for anything. It has been so rewarding.
16. Yea!! The flock will be so happy to get their toilet paper rolls back!!!{Feel-good-000200A2}
17. Oh yea, I noticed those eyes:lol: It looks like he is being hyptontized. {Emotions-00020074} You are getting sleepy, sleepy, sleepy....
18. I used to give my fids the empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls but then I heard/read an article in a magazine the glue on them could harm them. Article I read said there was zinc in the glue so no more paper towels rolls here. I have no idea if it was true or not but can't take chances untill I know for sure. Has anyone else heard this? I do believe if Dave says it's ok, then it's ok;)
19. Oh My Gosh!!! I just checked back in to see 3 more messy faces. They are so cute!!! I love these pics. Mine love the corn on the cob also and that's they usually look like too. They get it Everywhere though. They will shake their heads and corn goes flying all over:laugh: And Carol and Pat, your babies are just dolls!!! Carol, yours get a full belly and heavy eyes huh? :laugh: And Pat, Adaya is such a cutie pie, too. I love those big eyes. Such a camera ham already!! Great photos everyone.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/05/06 23:24
20. I'd love to hear some captions for this one.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/05/06 04:30
21. I would follow the others suggestion about the warm wash cloth. It may be your kitten is nervous and still just checking out it's new home but she might need some help in that area. I went to look at a litter of kittens to pick one out and they were 4 weeks old. I was taught they (kittens/puppies) shouldn't be pulled from the momma for 6 weeks. The lady kept telling me over and over it was ready. Eating on it's own and everything. Against my better judgement I took my kitten home that day but my kitty was just fine and grew up healthy and happy. She wasn't sick a day in her life untill she got old. I wouldn't be too concerned. Give her a little more time to settle in and give us an update. As long as she is acting healthy I think it will all be ok.
22. My amazon is doing very well. Thanks for asking. I don't post alot about him but I would have to say he is just a fantastic bird all around. He is such a happy fellow. He loves to sing and gosh is he ever a talker. He will talk directly to my face on a daily basis and he learns new words every week it seems. He went from screaming in fear when we first got him to a healthy and happy amazon who laughs hysterically all the time:woohoo: . He is very tame now, too and very much a part of the family. I think he likes it with us;) That is why I love to see adult parrots being considered when someone is thinking of getting a grey. Not to toot my own horn or anything but I think if I hadn't rescued Baxter my grey and Cooper my amazon they might be doomed to an dreadful and depressing life. I can tell they are happy and I think they are even thankful too and the difference we have made in their quality of lives. I want to save them all but know I can't:(
23. Those are gorgeous pictures Pat. Tyco looks so happy and protective over Adaya. Couldn't have asked for better results.
