Loki from week to week! How they grow!
Broomer replied to Broomer's topic in Photography & Video Room
I picked some dried food of his face before those photo's. Not a lot, but enough that got him preening my hand back, it was so cute. And every time I took a drink from the bottle he would follow it and open his mouth hehe. {Feel-good-000200B9} It's hard to drink when you're smiling hehe. -
Loki from week to week! How they grow!

Talked to the Breeder about the food on him, she says that on the most part it's because he and his brother and sisters are kept together and fed together, so they have even more of a mess to deal with. She does this for socializing and such. She said this week they'll be getting thier own weaning cage, and once a few more feathers come in, they'll be getting daily showers. She's just not able to control them regurgitating and being plain old messy while they're all together. BUT! she did show me how to preen him to take some of the food off, and Loki was preening my fingers and hand back . Here are some new picutes, he's still a bit messy, but he's more active ... hence the blurry photo's hehe

Post edited by: Broomer, at: 2008/07/30 00:04 -
Wait, nevermind, found it. Yeah, I found that one. I wanted to go for a variation of the Hoopball/Atom/Orbitz, all of which are wrapped in Polycord .. since I've seen many-a-Grey hanging upside-down, I thought it better for more grip  I can just picture Loki running around the sphere like the carnival morotcycle drivers in the Globe-o-DOOM, or whatever they're called. I'd just have to teach him to "Woo-woo-woo-woo" Like Curley from the three stooges when he does hehehe.

Not sure if i've seen Mika's playstand, got a link?
-
Polycord is to wrap the Sphere in, for grip and to keep him away from the tube itself. far better grip then vetwrap. B)

I've found a few electrical supply stores around here that sells PVC, going to go check them out tomorrow to see what they have. And the price at $300 I've widdled down to 200 so far by double checking prices at various other stores. One big part was the Polycord. Kim (Wife) said she saw the price at $19 per, and I thought they were 25' lengths ... they were 100' hehe, so that's $80 right there. As for the ease for the slip-T's, I'd gladly spend a little more for those since I can avoid a bunch of cuts, and for under the poop-tray I can keep them loose for cleaning the pipe. As for the Home Depot and Lowes here in Canada, if I remember correctly, the 10' PVC 3/4 pipes were $8 per .. sooo shows the inflation and differences here in Canuck-land :pinch:

n2fisher wrote: Oh, I found a picture online. I'm going to check localy though, since that website are charging 1.50 - 4$ a pop depending on the connector. meanwhile I know I can get a few of the connectors at Home depot for .70$ Anyone know what size PVC I should be using for a CAG? I was figuring 3/4 inch, but I have no idea if that would be big enough. The Sphere will be 1/2 inch and then wrapped with 3/8 Polycord, which will beef it up. The rest I was going to Vetwrap.

The Atoms can be made rather easily (relativly speaking) out of hulahoops. On Birdboard.com they have a Do it yourself thread on how to make one. Seems easy enough. I just had to take it to the next step and take it from the "Not to hard" to the "What in the heck was I thinking" stage .... something I practice regularly and seem to excel at :woohoo: Here is the link on the Birdboards site: http://www.birdboard.com/forum/how/25942-hoopball-diy-project.html You have to register to see it though. BUT it's just another birdy forum

n2fisher wrote: I'm trying to make it before Loki comes home in September, And I went for the "Sphere" after the Hoopball I've seen people make, just gives him the ability to hang upsidedown, sideways, or anything he likes. I just liked the Hoopball/Atom challange and thought it woudl add a little spice to the stand We're going to hang a boing above for his swining pleasure. We are, however, going to look in a few stores in the next few weeks to see if there are any premade perches .... after doing the math the one i've designed could cost up to $300 ... soooo I could just build it later when we get a bigger place.

:woohoo: Oh! I just realized I can replace most, if not all of the 3-Way Tee joints (Seen Here) with: These! That will cut down on my cutting of the PVC piping but a whole lot, and instead I can use 1 simple screw to hold it in place... Glad I didn't start ordering parts yet hehe {Feel-good-000200A2}

It won't be THAT much :silly: .... until we try to get it A ) into the car ... and B ) Into the Condo :pinch:

Post edited by: Broomer, at: 2008/07/27 23:07

Oh, I'm sure I will, the wife is gonna laugh at me when I tell her what I'm going to need ... I'm sure I'll get a "Yeah, you have fun with that"

{Emotions-0002007D} Oh my , just did the math on what supplies i'll need for ths project: Connectors: 36 Angled-3 way: 6 Seen Here Angled-4 way: 10 Seen Here 5-Way connectors: 6 (all for hoop) Seen Here 90 Degree elbow: 2 Seen Here 3-Way Tee joint: 12 Seen Here --------------------------------- PVC Piping: (not including front bar for net) 67 feet of PVC piping ... YIKES! :pinch: (rounded up to 70 for mistakes ... though i'll probably end up needing 80 ) --------------------------------- Flexible PVC: (hoops are 25.3 inches in Diameter) 20 Feet (6.667 feet per hoop) --------------------------------- 3/8 inch poly rope - 25 foot lengths: 6 --------------------------------- Vet wrap: oodles. (My new measurement standard  )

Hello all, just wanted some input on a playstand that I've designed on photoshop. Some of the parts I have a feeling I'll have to special order, but all in all I do believe it's workable. The main part in question is the 5-way PVC connector seen here, but I haven't tapped into all my resources yet, so I'm sure I'll find them: http://www.northernpvc.com/images/CON-PVC-5Way-Bevel.JPG I plan on using the flexible PVC tubing instead of hulahoops (That seems to be the norm) for a sturdier Sphere. Here is my design so far, any suggestions would be welcome! Also, we plan on adding a Boing above it for Loki's swinging pleasure, since the Sphere is stationary. (I hope it makes sense, it does to me, but I know I can me a bit .. "out there" :silly: ) http://www.birdboard.com/forum/attachments/do-your-self/28561d1217039287-help-future-play-gym-d-new-pirch.jpg

Post edited by: Broomer, at: 2008/07/26 04:46

Yeah, that's why I think I'll just make my own, If he doesn't like it, at least I did someting constructive hehe.
-
Is he eating on his own? Check his wieght often and make sure he's not dropping, but if he's eating on his own, as best I know, he's weaned. Weaned just means that he doesn't require hand feeding anymore. Of course I don't have my CAG yet, he's 6 weeks away from coming home, but to all my knowledge, that's how to define it. Drat I hate being a newbie lol :side:

Anyone have one of these, or know someone who does? Shop eBay Canada Store - Maggie's Online Parrot Store:: Custom Designed Parrot Gyms, Custom Designed Parrot Swings Me and Kim are trying to find a perch for Loki before he gets home. Kim wants a natural wooden one and, well, neither of us want to spend 400+ dollars for one ... just yet  Any idea's on these "Not real wood, but indestructable and computer designed to center itself if the bird starts flapping"

Loki from week to week! How they grow!

Oh I agree, and I plan on talking to them about it. Not until this weeks batch of photo's has anyone said anything about concerns. Again, I was just so happy to see him, I'd forget to say anything. Thanks to everyone for really opening my eyes to it, it will hopefully be resolved. -

Oh I understand completely. a good portion of what is on him is bits of wood shavings that they tried instead of their usual wood chips to line the bottom of his cage/brooder. She said it was a mistake and they didnt forsee how dirty he would get from it. the only formula you see on him is around his face. Also, every time we see him, it's not the same food that was stuck on him the week before, if I remember correctly she said she gives them a bath later in the afternoon. I don't love seeing him caked, but it could very well be the timing in which we see him. We go to be there for his noon time feeding. She told us she has 50 pairs of breeding birds and 100 baby birds to feed, and I think she does it mostly by herself, sooooo. I will however bring it up next week. We're just so happy to see him I really don't see it hehe. -

Oh I know, I try my best, but he's still at the breeders, soooo I can't be there for all the feedings to keep wiping him off. You should have seen him after we fed him, he was covered, I wiped that all off of him though. -

Oh I know, most of that was from the morning feeding that we weren't there for hehe, I was cleaning him off the whole time I was there. As Kim says, I'll have competition for messiest eater when he comes home hehe. -
He's getting big fast! And more and more cute hehe. From 4 weeks: to 5 weeks old: Now to 6 weeks old!: {Feel-good-000200B9} :woohoo: {Feel-good-00020114} Post edited by: Broomer, at: 2008/07/23 00:46

Post edited by: Broomer, at: 2008/07/30 00:03
