1. Fun post. Thanks. I have heard not to use rawhide. I can't remember why but I see it used on toys that shops sell. Are the dog chains made of stainless steel and not galvanized? What about the colored items like the wooden beads? Are there precautions with dyes or paints used? A big concern I have heard about making items is the legnth of rope as not to get caught up and to hang itself or break something trying to get loose. I'll post some pics of my toys for advice when I get the hang of posting pics better. Hehe. You've been such a help. Mel
2. The search here came up empty. Are fleece items such as braided vines/rope ever used or safe? What about coconut huts to hide stuff in? Does anyone here make their own toys or have some good links? Thanks!
3. I found the pic under the photo album.
4. Hey wait a minute. I found the pic I submitted the other day when I thought I messed up. It is under the photo album. So the photo album is for the entire site not just under the individual? I think I'll stick to posting messages rather than pics. Whew!
5. Let's see if I get it right this time. Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/10 20:29 Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/10 20:30 Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/11 08:30

Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/11 08:32 brandi___cag.doc brandi___cag.doc
6. Mine says Hello Pretty Bird but that's it. I tried teaching him to whistle tunes. Big mistake because I can't whistle tunes. I have him all messed up!
7. Uh, nevermind it didn't work. Good grief!
8. Well I posted a picture of my red head and our new family member bonding. Hehe, I don't know where it's at! Yikes, It's embarrassing being the newbie! Oh, wait I see I can post it here. :silly:
9. Thank you for your advice. Our baby is starting to babble. Our rhythm is in sync on the formula feeding so we are both comfortable. My seven year old daughter is thrilled that she can actually let him walk all over her. She hand fed him carrot tonight. I took some pics of them. I'll see if I can load them. The baby has learned to step up tonight without awkwardness. I got a play gym for him to hang out in for part of the day as well. He is enjoying it. Tonight my daughter and I are having a girls night. Hubby and son are out of town. We are going to watch movies and make toys. I sure hope we can maintain a family bird here. My daughter is just so excited. She has only been exposed to adult birds previously who weren't trusted with kids or vice verse. We are enjoying our new family member!
10. We haven't DNA tested yet. No name yet. My husband usu has some crazy ideas for names. Let's see Coorsky, Chevas, Sony, etc. Having problems with my camera. Guess I'll have to get it checked. This is day 3 and all is well. I'll check out the journal. Thanks.
11. Thank you. I read these. I just wasn't sure if he was too young at 12 weeks for any of this. And if he needed time to adjust in our new home before introducing various activities. He is eating fine. Today I placed a towel across my chest for us to play with. I read an ad where the breeder claimed 2 of their 10 wk old CAG were starting to talk. Is this literal speech or bird talk? Thanks for the info. Oh yes, I am thinking since I go to work when school starts I shouldn't overdo the schedule now, right? If he is out mostly evenings on weekdays then will it cofuse him to be let out more on weekends? Thanks.

Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/07 05:29
12. I read a few threadds here but age doesn't seem to be mentioned though it was late when I was doing it. What age to begin harness and towel play? How often do you switch out toys? He is 12 weeks old. This is day 2 at home. I observed him eating from the pellet and seed bowl and pecking at a toy I put in there. I guess he is adjusting okay. How long should a bird of this age be out of the cage? Is a routine of time in the evening enough? Or should we include another time as well? I don't know if we could over stimulate him right now. Thanks.
13. This happened to my husband and I with his Macaw. I was the fav. I had to pretty much leave her alone so he could establish a better relationship. It worked after time. Good luck.
14. My husband just got a Congo. He has always wanted one. I finally gave in. I am helping feed until weaned. I hope to get some great tips here.
