And kept it! My sister had a parrot steal one right out from her ring. I can't remember if she got it back. It was a several years ago. I'll have to ask her. But I did have a pet steal my diamond from my wedding ring! My toy poodle was extremely excited when I first got home. I was checking my a.m. when she was jumping up nipping at my hand. I felt it! It was gone! I hunted that entire area! She had to swallow it! I followed her for a week to NO AVAIL! Darn dog went from a monetary value of $350 to a couple thousand! I have the most expensive toy poodle walking!

Where's the pic? Sounds like she's a quick learner!

It seems TAGS are a lil cheaper here in Houston also. It seems those of you that got your babys for under $1000 either got them from a breeder rather than pet store or not fully weaned, except Africa!

There are some cultures that do not name their child right away either. Seems weird to take your baby home nameless. Hehe, I met a couple with a nameless child. I would think they don't wait too long. Sorry a lil off topic.

Usually small dogs outlive larger breeds however my mom just lost a husky at age 22. That is very unusual. Of course my father refused to put her down any time sooner where perhaps some might have given in.

Thank yall so much. We'll be shopping this weekend for dishes.

I can think of a few. Research to the nature and demand of these pets as they are time consuming and will outlive us. Make sure you have a local vet. Make sure you price cages, travel cage and gyms. All 3 are pertinent.;)Oh yeah, if you don't own a home you better make sure your landlord is alright with it. I personally don't think this is a pet for anyone not established yet like college kids. They need to concentrate on school and career. Hope this helps.<br><br>Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/17 22:54

What's that converted to US dollars? hehe. We got our baby for $850US the next day the price advanced to $1200US because they were close to weaning. We took our baby home needing 2 feedings perday but eating food too. Though it seems the recommendation is to purchase fully weaned birds.

I was thinking of freezing my own fresh veggies. Is there a process? I better look it up. Thanks.

Okay he's calmed down and perching in his cage. I wonder if it's because he can see me at the computer?! Hmmm...I may have to consider putting him in the living room. I just thought he should learn to retire away from us in the less trafficky computer room in order for him to be used to some alone/independant time since I will begin work when school starts. Hmmm???

I think he's getting spoiled or something. He loves me to cuddle him at my chest. Now that he's flying he keeps coming to me. I don't want to shoulder perch so I had to put him in his cage to get some work done. He was out for awhile prior. He is scratching away at the bottom corner of the cage as though he can dig his way out like a puppy. I wonder if he'd go so far as to hurt his pads?! He is dumping his food bowl I think to get my attention. Any ideas? Thanks, Mel.

That excites me because I'd like to offer a large variety without spoiling. Thanks.

Well Brandi is mild mannered but I still suspect T-Bird might recognize she is smaller maybe even less confident and may try to be authoritive or bossy with her. This is one of the reasons I am unsure of allowing him to shoulder perch. I think regardless I should just monitor their contact at all times. Thanks for all the advice.

Can you freeze fresh veggies or use frozen? Does it lose value? Thanks.

Does anyone use pressure washers? Is it too powerful for cleaning? My Macaw has a huge manzanita playstand which I don't find readily easy to clean. I usually use bleach and brush. I'm wondering if a pressure washer would be easier or damaging. Thanks.

I have a few questions I am unclear about. Are all candles bad or just the ones with metal wicks? I read that cut lemons or soda powder are best. I really didn't know cut lemons were used this way. I have ceramic downstairs so I mop. I usu use mop detergent with a little bit of bleach. I keep a spray bottle of water and bleach mix to clean up dog accidents in between. I usu use lil bleach water for cages, kennels, etc. I have used bleach wipes between cleanings on animal dwellings. Are these safe practices?

Anyone else with pics of their gyms to add? I'd love to see them!B) http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/58348-playgyms.html#60238<br><br>Post edited by: Mel, at: 2008/07/16 23:30

These responses are cute! When the phone rings my Macaw answers too. She says hello, uh huh, okay, alright bye bye. But she does become persistant I speak to HER! I have to sometimes go in the laundry room or bathroom to have a phone conversation and apologize for the racket! I've had a few business calls where they recognized it was a Macaw's persistance. Others are baffled.

Thanks for the tips. For now I shut the blinds but I like my large kitchen view of our pond. I'll try some clingy things. He took his second flight today landing on top of the curtain rod. He stepped down obediently.

Neat back packs but expensive! I like the collapsable motel. We added a perch to a dog kennel for vet travel. Got it from a thrift store. Hehe! I might experiment adding net/screen to a used back/front carrier, etc. Hmmm....

My husband added wooden sides that angle outward like this one at the bottom to catch droppings. That was a nice feature. I'll have to see if I have a pic. I'm fixing to build a larger table top for my guy. I gotta pull out the elec saw. Hand saws are ridiculous! I hope to finish this weekend. I'd like to see some other pics of those hand made. Thanks!http://www.birdsupplies.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=ADAV%2DRD

Sounds great! How old is he?

Thanks, going shopping tomorrow. Is it okay if your food is cooked with spices and shared with him? Like beans or whatever. I'll have to see if I can find Dandelions. We grow hibiscus for our iguana. Are calcium or other suppliments necessary in addition to diet? Do you guys use the cuttlebone and mineral? Thanks for gettinjg us off to a good start!
