Nice stand. How long has she been used to wearing her flight suit? Was it easy to train her?
-
Yes, thinking of your bird this morning.

Okay, let me try this again. It seems T-Bird insisted on joining me on the key board and I lost my message! I read numerous posts here but I am unsure of the clippers being used. Are they like the dog clippers, baby clippers or other? I have a regular dremel tool but would need to get the sand tip. My husband doesn't trust me or rather he doesn't want the bird scared of us. I do my dogs. We have a cement perch but the nails are sharp. He spends most of his time on the spiral rope perch. I'm going to set up crock pots by his cement perch today. Would that be enough time spent on it to keep it trim? I still need to do something now. I'll probably also make the bib thingy today. I wonder if I should use waterproof canvas for a rougher fabric and maybe easier to clean without washing every time of wear? Hmmm...

Hmmm....I wonder how long they'll last. He's not too big into destruction...yet!

Thanks for the adavice. I think I will get some baby food too. Anything to trick him into adjusting those taste buds!

Thanks for the tips. I think after this discussion I do prefer to leave him home. My hubby is working a shutdown and I haven't been able to speak to him. Hopefully he agrees. Thanks!

What are pulses? I have wondered if I should use supliments in case he is not eating all offered and just chewing it up.

Thanks for the input. I am stil working on solutions. I can shut most blinds but there is one that doesn't have it. I suppose mirrors can be a problem too. Never thought of introducing to the windows. Good idea also.

I'm going to try this with some wooden ones I have lying around and see if that will encourage interest with the variety of food. :cheer:

Thanks for the heads up. I'll talk to hubby this evening. Mel

Okay, he's putting his beak on my finger and bobbing his head like he did when I syringe fed him. He was pretty much denying the syringe when I stopped but I know he means he's hungry. I have been wondering if he is just playing with veggies and not eating them. Kinda like my daughter. I also give him seed mix and pellets. It seems he eats all the sunflower. I'm not real sure if he's eating the rest. I tried him with nuts that I cracked and let him dig in. He seems to like the different ones but I'm afraid to give too much. Should I put him back on the formula? Thanks, Mel

I didn't know it took so long for the flight feathers to return. You've given me something to think about. I do have an even larger cage in the attic. Maybe I should take that down and leave him home. Hmmm.

Thank you for the response. My child's school list requires a large bottle of Germ X. I'd like to do some more research on this. You mentioned some great points. Karma for you...if I knew how to do it! Hehehe!

I have these books. Can you recommend any better books. Simple Guide to Bird Care & Training, Julie Rach Parrot Guide, Cyril Rogers New Parrot Handbook, Werner Laterman Guide to Well-Behaved Parrot, Mattie Sue Athen My husband has Taming, Training & Tricks w/video. Thanks for any input. Mel;)

Okay, so my husband talked me into this bird after a couple of years...long story. I just realized he never really answered the question of what we were to do when going on a vacation where the bird could not go. Geez, we're going on a cruise in a couple of weeks. He suggests that his father watch the bird since we will be visiting him before our trip (6 hrs away)and he used to own a bird. Okay, might work. I have traveled with my pets on this 6 hr. road trip before. But not this bird. I figure use a smaller cage and cover it. I'll bring treats. Should I take his larger home cage to set up fopr the week or would the travel cage do with out time? Then I do NOT trust anyone else to be conscientious of his capability of flight with opening doors so I feel I need to clip him. It will be his first clip and prabably a rude awakening to him. I'm just worried about his safety. It seems like thew only option. I have made numerous toys. hehe. What else? Thanks!

He looks like he's always loves bathing. Okay I see no harness outside. Is he clipped?

I was wondering about the skins. I was told the skin of veggies held the most nutrition even though we as humans peel most. Is it unsafe or just our routine. What about raw potatoes? Is it bad? Thanks. I may have to jusyt copy a complete list of do's and don'ts to keep on the fridge.

http://www.aquavet.i12.com/Birds.htm caged bird diseases http://www.avianweb.com/africangreydiseases.html even offers USA vet locations

Just saw the last post. In some of my recent research several indicators to the crop popped up. Even how to empty it. You should at least google on that for more info.
-
I think any change in stool might be an indicator. The longer you wait to bring to a vet the worse it could get. You can call around to price the vets first. Some pet stores have vets visit monthly and invite the public. You need to be prepared in the case of emergency anyway. Good luck.

Yikes the bird flew right in between the fish and crashed! Ugh! My 7 yr old says it's silly anyway that birds like fish!
