  1. Lol for some reason, Ace Ventura just popped into my head!
  2. Jill, is that the little sound they make, that makes you think they're dead interested in what you said? It's hard to describe, but stay with me here.... If you said to me, "you won't believe it, but mary has been having an affair with stan, while her ted is in the hospital" And I'd go "oooooooh" like, that's interesting! Is that the sound? Cos Alfie does that all the time and it's the cutest little sound - I've been trying to catch it of vid for ages to ask if every grey does it!
  3. I did try to get some vid, but she tends to clam up when she sees the camera, (or she attacks it). Either way the talking stops, which is what happened today - I'll have it at the ready though for the next time! Judy, Jackdaws are members of the crow family. I don't find the call particularly annoying (yet!!!), it's still new enough to be a novelty. Alfie's not in any danger from the Jackdaws Jill - I don't think they would actually fly down the chimney to eat her!
  4. That's a lovely story Jill. Thanks for sharing it with us. What kind of bird was Peter? I'm assuming African Grey, was he?
  5. This is a lovely story Maggie. I wonder if Alfie will ever converse like that. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Oh Happy Hatchday Dayo - you're getting such a big boy, but what a cute baby you were!! Enjoy your day, but don't eat all your cake and goodies at once and be sure to share them!! xx
  7. Lol they mebe were - new rooms maybe! I just saw the announcement and thought congrats.
  8. Alfie is actually sitting at the moment, having a conversation with some Jackdaws who are sitting on the roof, calling at her down the chimney. I can only assume they are understanding her because she has completely perfected the lingo in the last couple of days - I'm sure she even has the right accent! Suffice it to say, I can't tell the difference between her and them. Either they understand each other, or the Jackdaws are sitting up there scratching their heads saying " would you listen to this cheeky little mare??!!". It does make you wonder doesn't it?!
  9. How lovely. Looking forward to seeing the vids - smashing pic too! Thanks for sharing.
  10. Just like to say congrats to our newest mods, Luvparrots and Dave007.
  11. Alfie does this at the bottom of the cage when she is wanting out, but she also does at the back of the couch, like she's trying to get under there, and also she'll do it to me if I'm sitting on the floor - she'll dig away as if she's trying to dig a hole under me - lol - maybe she's trying to tell me something!!
  12. Wow what beautiful photos! The colours are so vibrant - they give me inspiration to get clicking!! Thanks for sharing these.
  13. Lol cute pic! It took Alfie almost two years to get into chillis, but she loves them now! He's so handsonome, thanks for sharing.
  14. Lol Logan, it's not nerdy at all! Well maybe it is but who cares! I know what you mean! I love it too! A similar thought occurred to me the other day. I have horses, and there's nothing like the sound of a horse thundering over a field to come and see you, or hearing a shod horse clip clop along a country lane - it make my heart sing. Standing in the kitchen last week doing the dishes, I could hear the woosh of Alfies wing beats as she flew through the house looking for me, and it gave me such a thrill! Wooshin wings is now right up there with galloping hooves as one of my favourite sounds! Magic!!
  15. Welcome Carriekinz. How lovely of you to give this adorable little character a new home. Looking forward to hearing how he settles in with you. Lyn & ALfie.
  16. Aaahh Sheila - that's the cutest thing I've seen in a while! Just whistling away, playing under his paper - smashing! Thanks for sharing.
  17. Oh Geez Logan, it doesn't bear thinking about! Like Extreme575 - I did a tone of research before I brought Alfie home, and still this forum has taught me more than all the books and websites did - I wish I'd found here sooner. Please do ask if there is anything you're not sure of - we'd rather be reading inquisitive posts from you 50 times a day than....well - you get my drift! Lol - when I first got Alfie I was posting every crisis we came across - when I read them back now I groan - however did the forum put up with me!!! But they did - they really are a great bunch! Another really bad thing, while we're on this subject, is teflon coated stuff. It may have been on the list, I can't remember, but teflon pans etc can kill a bird in minutes - avoid at all costs!
  18. I know we all (most of us) have trouble with our birds pinching stuff they shouldn't, but after countless interrupted mealtimes, Alfie has finally learnt that she may share when she is invited, otherwise she has to stay on her perch - or so I thought. Her latest move while we are eating, is to wait until I have both hands full, then the second I do, she swoops down faster than a speeding bullet to remove from my plate whatever it was she had her eye on. I'm sure her next step will be to wait until my mouth is full so I can't remonstrate either!
  19. What lovely dogs you have! Are they Rotty crosses? Copper is such a cutie, I love his colour. What breed is he? Great pics - thanks for sharing.
  20. I would have thought it happened this way too - rather than becoming sweeter in springtime (like everything should when the flowers are dancing on the breeze and the butterflies start to float around) the wild birds have become much more aggressive and territorial. On the lighting note Jill, it may still be worth investing in a UV lamp - allthough the days are getting longer, unless our birds are out in the open air for most of the day, they still won't be getting the crucial UV rays as these are filtered out through most of the glass we have in our homes, and it's these UV rays that are beneficial to our birds, at least that's the way my vet explained it to me.
  21. Hi Jacarual! Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to hearing more about you and your flock! Lyn & ALfie.
  22. Another great vid - is that you clickering at 4.22 or has Emma picked up the clicker noise!!?
  23. Hi Adina, just wanted to swing by and say how much we enjoy Emma's videos. She's such a talented little soul! Oh, and love your avitar - that's a really beautiful picture of her!! Lyn & Alfie x

  24. Oh and Jay - really cute pic - two spoons? Lol!
