  1. wow really great pictures, and beautiful birds, one of each a TAG and CONGO Id like to have that one day
  2. I know i get a gooey suprise almost daily or a piece of peanut dropped for me. I say thanks but you can keep that and move on..haha. You should be happy even though it is gross
  3. i dunno with my grey when hes doing that with his wings he's scared or nervous when he does that with coupled with the wings is his begging pleeease pick me up or wants something. She being back home after such a long time to me thats nervous. Or after a bath they shiver just like us when wet, and also read they do that naturally to dry off faster

Ive bought a lot off ebay over the years but shipping would hurt me on something like that i would think. I really like the carriers off the one site. Ill save up i guess, after the vet visit this saturday and thanks for asking about tiago well one side seems better its kinda even offed but the ohter side still doesnt look right ill find out saturday to be sure. I read sometimes they can damage it during play and i noticed today he plays hard with this toy made of acrylic that i stuff peanuts into and he has to maneuver them out. Its kinda sharper i took it away just in case. wow your guys love just about everything in foods which is good makes life easier i tried giving them rice today but it was plain rice guess it wasnt fun enough for them..lol. What is your alex's fav toy? do you make your own or buy them? any luck in getting your grey to like you?
  5. dont know if this will help you but ive noticed with mine that he likes things in phases last year it was walnuts he loved them this year hes like thats so last year and drops them now it almonds. Maybe he'll warm up to them and you can feed them as treats or an easy way to add weight if they are underweight

Thats true being busy means less destroying other stuff. I just feel bad when they are working so hard and i know they have no chance of ever getting what they want. I thought of the yard sales and ebay etc. but im scared of buying a cage that is a toxic metal and he somehow ingests it, you know? Zuris fav food hmm he loves his peanuts and almonds is his fave he switches alot guess gets tired of a certain treat last year it was walnuts this year he leaves them totally. How about your grey? Baths i give them both once a week during molts twice a week. Zuri as a grey he likes them alot will flap and shake etc, now tiago the alex hes a clown upside down so i get his armpits, sings whistles flaps. he gets water eveywhere but i guess its water. I use a mist bottle, how about you how do you bathe them?

Yeah i figured as much with pooping i notice in the wild birds do it before flight or during flight. Well they never fly off of me its always drop a pot or they are doing something taking a thought and something spooks them from behind sort of. Tiago the alex is much more prone to this than the grey. I had read that too about that they dont preen each other and being protective of their tail. When i take him back to see my parents my mom does the same game with him and the same results he hates it. She ony does it like once or twice so its like when i tickle zuri as soon as he sees my finger going under his wing he says "tickle tickle" so im havent realy seen negative results. I looked at the carriers and if they werent so expensive i would love one but $200 is a bit much for me right now. I have like a small dog hard shell one that i screwed in a perch inside but he loves hanging off the front instead its the door and a better view. I dunno ill keep looking...I guess they market these things for women more than men. Sometimes i feel bad with some of these toys Zuri is working on this acrylic toy that has a bell inside thats impossible to get out but he'l be there for hours trying. and gets frustrated and beat it up. Do you guys have toys like that? and feel bad? that they never will succeed?
  8. haha i had that happen with my alexandrine too i shouldve takena pic he was pissed at me and chewed a window frame to bits right to the drywall in a matter of 30mins..they are amazing creatures, like little kids
  9. I found a aquarium with different fish was a very much quiet way of entertainment for my birds. They love feeding time when its the fishes turn
  10. I totally agree although they are the same species there is no guarantees. excellent advice everyone

I agree something is up. Sad cause as a vet you should love animals not possibly harm them if thats what he/she is doing

yeah def thumbs up to you for training them. I still get the occasional suprise from Tiago but hes 99% good. I notice both birds if they get spooked and fly off somewhere they poop as soon as they stop, is that normal? urgh thats the only time tiago does it in bad places. Zuri i had him half way but hes losing it the last few months i dunno why. Bettyboop thanks soo much for the links ill look into it, hopefully no flower patterns. Like i mentioned i like the idea of the plaxiglass one but not the idea of the airflow. Hes a shoulder perching bird the grey so i hate when we go outside and he demands the shoulder and gets spooked and leaves a gift on me. I find the greys beak to be much sharper pointed and the alex's have this biggg upper but its the bottom part that hurts when they get into your finger..maybe it'll get bigger as she ages i cant remember a diff when i first got him other that got stronger..lol
  13. im really curious about these new cages with rock perches. Do they use them or perch when sleeping on a normal branch? I raised pigeons and they perched on simlilar rocks ledges but mine were wood shelves with hay for cushion and they would lie down. Theres some amazing cages ill have to post mine soon.
  14. im sure everything is ok but i have also read that when they are smelling something bad and hurting their nose or their nose is plugged they breathe that way but if he stops then im sure its ok. mine yawns before bed while scratching his head

Wow bettyboop that must have been so rough to have to see i will def look at their toys much more than before because Zuri is a big clown and enjoys hanging off his toys upside down and now that you mentioned that ill look closer at his toys in his cage. I figure he slowed his talking over the two facts but i think its competition for love maybe at a bird level and maybe he's sad. I spend equal time with them i def get more cuddly with Zuri only cause he'll let me. I know zuri is very much jealous when i have tiago i couldnt do what tycosmom does with both on me at the same time zuri puffs up as soon as he sees Tiago on me. The move didnt help either i used to take the birds outdoors all the time last summer and i cant anymore im on the 6th floor and tiago hates the harness well id have no chance of getting it on him anyways. so a perch in a window is the best he gets. Im trying to find a good carrier case that doesnt have wild flower colours on it im not mr.macho man but thats pushing it with those cases of what ill be seen carrying lol. does anyone seen ones that werent like that? No offence but id go crazy with the amount of brids you have my 2 are enough work but hey if i could i would like you do. I work night shift from 8pm-4am and im up usually at 1pm so they are alone just the morning and im here til bedtime. Atleast i miss the morning poop. Well unfortunately for Zuri i dont he saves it till i get him out well 99% of the time he hates pooping in his cage i heard its normal. Tiago will poop on command but the grey is having probs learning have you guys trained yours?

I do believe what i paid was worth it compared to many pets out there. With good health they will live up to 30 years for the alexandrine and 50 i think for AG. People pay $1000 for dogs and get 10years. I am sorry that your TAG died like that, that would be terrible for me if that happened. I know it happens and sometimes we cant be careful enough. My TAG is very high strung but personality yes very laid back. As for the talking i dunno why he stopped learning new words my TAG hasnt but my theory is that once i got the TAG thats when it slowed, we also moved to a new apartment so that had to effect it also. The smell only time im like you guys are stinky is right after bath time, when they are all wet.
  17. def know how you feel my TAG came one day with a similar noise at first i did the normal thing and say what your problem? and hey stop then it turned into the chirp and then stop and whats your problem from him..lol so needless to say ignoring him is the very wise choice. I did it and took him back to his cage a couple times and he got the picture. Now he still says whats your problem any other time he lets out a louder noise..urgh like little kids they are
  18. he/she is very cute for sure. I wish there was somewhere around me i could visit the babies theres nothing cuter.

wow you guys got deals I paid $650 for Tiago me alexandrine. The cheapest around here is $600 but i quickly bonded with him in the store and noticed tell tale signs he would be male like dark red beak and the slight black beard underneath. Like i said and you both have said constant handling is key. I backed off during his molt and im working at getting back his liking of petting. Right now he'll give me kisses with his tongue tangling out and let me bring him under my chin but i try and pet him with my free hand and he climbs on my shoulder no choice for me. Im not going to push him i never was able to manhandle him like i can with Zuri my TAG but i used to be able to pet him. Shower time is my fav with him, are yours the big clowns? mine is, he's all over the place the TAG likes water which is weird compared to other members on here but he kinda flaps and shakes but not the antics my Alexandrine does. As for talking he spoke a week after coming hime 6 months old and hes actually slowed the talking still says "i wanna shower" "come here" "wanna nut" "i love you" give me a kiss...thank-you" not a big whistler though more of a squaker.

Bettyboop, I see a vet bill is about the same as it is here, it is a big expense but id rather be safe than sorry since birds hide their illness. I take them once a year as well and trim them myself but the nails i leave till the checkup they use a dremil tool to dull them instead of cutting. and i would def consider them medium i have a TAG and hes heavier but the same size as Tiago but fuller and Tiago has a much larger tail it is still growing since his molt and i see a difference every few days i measured it well as much as he'd let me hes a diva and wont let me touch it too much. Its 2' long and it is quite stunning the colours i save them when he loses them. And thanks for checking on the beak situation i am taking him just to be safe my educated guess is eitehr hes not getting a vitamin like we need to grow our nails hard cause its not the wood its soft pine and untreated i ask the store and looked up the company online. Its even still green and wet from being fresh cut, i just dont buy those. Its just a tad higher than its been so we'll see ill let you know what they say

He is really cute, looks like hes a bit of an explorer all over everything. I def agree with bettyboop they have really sweet voices and are amazing talkers. I would also add that looking at your flock im sure you know this already but constant handling is key with them I notice my Alex needs to be touched, even the last couple months that i gave him space since he was molting and now he's done and now i have to say he lost a bit of letting me touch him as much.

Yeah i would never try and cut their nails, they are dark so it would be too easy to have them bleed on me. Even the vet did it the first time. But i dont know why but after i hold Tiago my arm is like all red and like im allergic to his nails dont have that prob with the grey. Im actually taking them for their vet visit this week how much does a vet check-up cost around you? I am kinda worried Tiago's beak is peeling further up than ive ever seen does yours do that. Im worried he's not getting a vitamin etc. and causing this, any ideas? Im lucky i have hardwood floors but i still bought a couple mats and lined them under their cages for protection.
  23. aww feel bad for her that must be like the worst thing for a bird to go through. There isnt much you can do but spray her with aloe and keep the humidity up around her. Thats what sucks about when that happens we are at odds what to do

    Alexandrines

oh ic, well thats good she isnt i can imagine winds like that would make her a little uneasy. Do you ever notice how they can just tell when something is hovering over them outside? Ive seen Zuri just stare up in the sky and i look up and its a plane so far up its hardly visible but he noticed it. I have to say i like Zuri better he is soo much more affectionate and a little clown. Tiago is much more independent which i like. I cant seem to get zuri to play with toys in his cage he'll sit there and eat and sleep but i never notice his toys touched, and yes i do rotate them and have bought and made numerous toys. On his stand he'll play all day. I think that was the downfall of the store weaning im sure they didnt want to afford numerous toys to play with and that became his habit. Tiago did just molt and very quickly this time and he did drop weight but avgs about 215 grams all year. He did lose a bit of weight during molting. and def his attitude he didnt want to be touched much which is ok. Does yours get testy during molting? Are her nails like thorns? ive noticed that between the 2 tiago's nails are terrible and zuris ive never cut and are hardly bad.

I know what you mean even clipped last year he flew really well, light bird compared to the greys so thats probably why. I had mixed feelings about clipping but seeing as i take them outdoors i rather know they cant fly far even if he caught a breeze. Do you have one of those open type carrying cages for outdoors? I wanted to buy this plexiglass one thats totally clear all around but when i thought about it it seemed like there wasnt alot of air flow so he'd get hot really fast. And no i didnt buy from her she is a very smart lady i went to her website many times for info. Unfortunately maybe she was busy but i sent her many emails and never got a reply for help. I bought my two birds at a local pet store that petsmart bought out recently here. Now im struggling to find bird supplies theres keeps dwindling weekly. I was lucky the very nice lady at the store weaned him very well and socialized them and loved them she actually was sad when i took him home, so i owe her for doing a great job. I def know what you mean by skittish tiago is very scared of the outdoors in every way, whereas zuri the grey is very scared to new things indoors but very confident outdoors go figure. and i did the conversion mine is just slightly heavier than yours but im sure its because hes male.
