  1. you have a great setup with that mesh around it, he must have been very interested i take zuri my TAG for walks with his harness and loves watching everything and just the breeze he enjoys. K i know this is off topic but since you brought it up ill give you a tidbit of info on squirrels..the colour of them changes as you go to warmer climates here in the north canada included we only have brown and black ones because the darker colours obvi aid in warmth in the sun as you progress south the colours lighten to brown, red and then grey. dont ask me how i know this..haha

oh no i wasnt offended just wanted to clear it that i didnt abandon him. But thanks for the kind words, i think anyone of us that has one and joins a group like ours and reading some of our comments is enough evidence we love our little guys in your case tycosmom big guys your grey is a heavy one isnt he? Bettyboop i just read the part where you said zsa zsa etas a couple teaspoons a day. Thats good news i really got worried i to feed my birds alot of table food and they insist on it..haha, but the regular pellets i always thought they ate too little but i guess they are normal.

I hope you dont have the idea that when tiago was molting i left him alone that was def not the case i just couldnt pet him but i held him and talked to him all the time, mine went through a very heavy and his terrible 2's at the same time so those two things i had to adjust to. He 85% back to the way he was but very finicky about touching his tail but betty-boop nailed that one as being soo long it is a defense mechanism. congrats on the first words the alex have amazing clear voices and competes with my grey for sure, just the grey has to intelligence part a bit better

Tiago is doing well, hes not as active chewing the wood toys but i think right after the summer last year he had a few months he wasnt into it much too, but myabe im being overly cautious, Other than that hes doing fine, i got used to looking at the clip so i dont notice it as much so im better too. So you find zsazsa eats well, thats one thing tiago doesnt do well compare to my grey, he eats very little but then again zuri is a pig so comparing the 2 doesnt hold well. How much of the regular pellets would you say yours eats per day? like teaspoons wise? as for getting a 2yr old alex, hmm i dunno i know you have tons of experience and love but they arent eh most easiest to keep tame i noticed a difference in 2 months during his molt i left him alone and has taken me a while to get the touchyness back. From what ive read and talked to breeders and etc, they need more work than the avg bird, that being said if he came froma great home than maybe.Raja being so young, it is the major developing time for it to so you dont want to take away from that, but of course somehow you manage the rest and havent gone insane sooo..up to you.

thanks for the tips ladies, and im trying to keep it very light and small enough to carry around with ease, but not too small where they'll be cramped, so thats why ive been stuck. I have a plastic carrier now and its a covertible type wher the top comes off easy i just need to figure out a way to put a top on and so it will allow sunlight clearly in. I have alrady put a sandy dowel in so work in progress

Hmm thanks for the tip ill have to look for that in the stores. I was going to use the carrier i have take the top off and build a dome over it and that could be very useful.$45 doesnt sound bad either if its stainless. and def manly enough for me. I know what you mean by being jealous zuri is the same where tiago isnt jealous hes just ok with it when i hold zuri, hes very independent so thats probly why. Its been really nice temps outside here so i wish i could take them our regularly but just sucks i cant take both out at the same time, i always run out of time between everyday life.

oh that sounds nice for them and safe. I have to take mine out in his harness to the local park and im always fearful of hawks theres many in my area im sure they wouldnt try anything but im being careful you know? As for tiago the best i can do for him is his carrier since he wont let me put a harness on him, wish i could. Ive been drawing up plans for a new custom carrier but havent had time to actually make it yet. Wish my 2 birds would try and make friends well zuri is jealous and wants to fight tiago and tiago wants nothing to do with zuri so its def not a friendship lol
  8. yep mine does this too with any kind of sour fruit, like oranges, lemon and grapefruit, havent tried pomegranate and would be scared to raspberries was hard enough to get off the walls..lol
  9. wow you are very lucky, you'd think being 15 she'd be resistant to you and being new, great work you must be really calming to her
  10. With that kind of diet id say for sure it goes a long way to making your grey such a beauty..good work

Yes it does amaze me too. They are great company too. I always before getting birds thought of the budgies and how they are boring to an extent. I have an aquarium and its calming etc and love it too but i cant think of any pet that can make you feel and react to your feelings like a bird can. I know dogs are close but ive never had one so i cant compare but no walks in -20 degrees so thats a def plus. I know my brother hates my birds and when one accidently poops on the tile floor he gets grossed out but it doenst bother me anymore a quick wipe and gone. At the beginning the noise was annoying but i got used to it so i know what you mean my family says the same thing but we get used to it. Do you have an outdoor area for yours?

Geeze that would drive me crazy too, on both counts i know tiago does his beg squawk and im ok with it anytime but right when i get up when im still sleepy the last thing you want to hear is a squawk, i dont get mad at them because i know a. its natural for them and b. its my fault im sure i gave into him many times when he first did it and reinforced it. I try to give them the attention and so far fingers crossed they are ok for the rest of the day and dont drive me crazy. Only time they are annoying is when im out for the day doing errands or a day trip and they dont get their time with me, then they get moody. I took zuri out to the park today and he enjoys the time outside. As for the food issue id say give him less to waste and the deeper bowl is a good tip or ive seen bowls you can buy that are designed for that in mind and in the long run would be cheaper than the food waste. or even a tray for now at the bottom like a food tray from a restaurant and lay it on the bottom and save at least some food.

haha you guys are so right they are little kids. They always want what you are playing with even brushing my teeth they'll both have this urge to play with my toothbrush while they are on my shoulder. I think your right its cause she is spoiled like you said and she didnt get her way so she lashed out. I think thats why women in general and im not being sexist its just in my experience women are the majority of parrot owners and deal better with them because especially when you have had kids you can work with parrots better, im still learning and Im doing my best but men and women who have had kids and raised them already have a def advantage in my eyes, course no scientific evidence but my opinion.

I can say that both my birds get into very odd moods, more so Zuri than tiago. Tiago bites me when i try and touch his toys or cage, hes very possessive of it, not hard but pinpoints his eyes and will come and grab my hand but with more force than i want, also still touching him he goes for a bite but i wont let him do it, im probly not helping doing it but im trying to get back to light touching atleast. Zuri some days wont shut up and others like the other day seem all quiet and a mute. So i know what you mean im thinking they are like us and get into bad moods maybe a thunderstorm the night before they get grumpy because they got woken up, my guess after a night of storms and they both were edgy. I cant say ive been bitten by Zuri since the first time i took him out of his cage the day after he came home, mouths me all the time but never bites. As for the bottle cap think that is really cute ive actually seen tiago do it by himself i give him my caps all the time and he dips them in the water and seems like he tips it up to drink not sure if its co-incidence or what but seen him do it lots of times.

I struggled with deciding as well they were both clipped at the store when i bought them so in my eyes they wont miss what they never fully had you know? Like i said if i could get the harness on Tiago it wouldnt even be a question i would do a cosmetic trim just in case so i know he couldnt fly perfectly so i have a chance in a emergency. As for Zuri he lets me put it on so hes got a cosmetic clip which i did and im very happy he can still fly 10ft or so and drops safely. Tiago is ok i think im more struggling with it than him. I do have a nice view and hopefully you'll get out and see the fall colours too somewhere. I enjoy Aug and Sept and most of Oct now Nov to Apr those are hard sometimes.

It was really nice outside it was about 22 degrees Celsius..oopps lol forgot you use Fahrenheit umm prob 72 for you for the daytime high. Nice comfy temp and finally sun. We do get amazing colours the trees are finally feeling the cool nights so its started im on the 6th floor so i see a great view. I know hes a tough bird we have been through a lot in the 2 and a bit years together, Did you ever clip yours?

I know its not all my fault but i took him there so im trying to make it up to him. He seems better today hes still trying to preen but he's more active then the last couple days. I'll try again and email her just the last time i sent 3 and no replies i figured because i hadnt bought the bird from her so she would be less likely to give me advice but its worth a shot. Thanks for the kind words and dont worry about the pic i wasnt mad or sad...just reflected ya know? Its been raining all weekend due to Ike made its way up here so today is finally dry so i think ill take one of them out for a walk.
  18. This one is my TAG Zuri's stand i made and this is my alexandrines stand i made, old picture i added much more toys etc, but you can get the picture of what it looks like.

oh shes so cute..miss those nice wings that tiago had like hers. Im so sad about it and i can tell he's noticing a difference. Last year he hardly cared it was perfectly done by the same vet. 2 things happened and i think caused it. 1 she ran late with the last check-up with another grey so my appointment was at 2 but took us in at 220 and so she felt behind, and 2 that he was soo skirmish that i think she got upset, which isnt tiago's fault, I cant even take a picture of him his one side of the wing is ok again more than shoudld be but the other looks horrible. Wish i could do something im giving him lots of love and bought him a new toy to take his mind off of it. Hes soo vain it has to bother him you know? Im looking around for a new vet and so far he closest is a vet at the local university hospital 20mins away, its a vet school and they have avain vets. I need to clip mine because of a aquarium and a ceiling fan i have and being on the 6th floor its too dangerous. They both know how to fly so i cant take a chance. I took him to my familys house and they tried to cheer me up but i cant help feeling really bad.
  20. It is terrible and i agree im so happy in Canada its the same we banned them as well. Im glad i saw it but you know sad as well..The drawback though will be that birds will become like dogs and cocketiels where the constant breeding will diminish the lifespans of the future generations of our birds, but im def not arguing that it shouldnt be stopped.
  21. Hey everyone. Firstly I want to say i wasn't naive when i bought my Grey Zuri knowing that once before his family genes were wild caught and shipped to north America, but like all of you i was drawn to parrots and have loved every minute of it. This being said I knew that somewhere down the line in the past his family was wild caught. Watching this video made my stomach turn of watching wild greys being caught in Africa. Im posting this video for those that want to watch it and it does make you think, im so glad that we banned importation of wild caught birds into our countries and applaud our governments for it. This organization that posted this video has now encouraged the European union to do the same. Of course there is smuggling and asia its still legal. For any of you that are thinking of buying a wild caught grey or a smuggled one watch this video it may change your mind. here is the link for this video..(understand that it may be disturbing to soem of you) if you want to see a lighter side one of just wild greys its short but cool..here is the link.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLpy6OPWpl0

Thanks for letting me know ill have to look it up and see where it is. There is usually a parrot conference near here but i never understood if it was the same thing it seemed more of a dinner, and guest speakers etc. So I have to say im very disappointed in my vet today and will not be ever getting her to trim my birds wings for sure and hopefully i can find another vet near me. I went today with my boys for their annual check-up and everything was going fine. Tiago I asked her to give him a pretty wing trim and nail trim on top of the check up and they encourage the cosmetic one. I told her he can fly too well still and told her to cut those off. She had her back turned to me because he was squirming and her assistant was having trouble so instead of cutting the flight feathers she left the 3 longest ones and hacked and i mean hacked the rest to his inner ones. Poor guy has the worst look ever i almost freaked i told her i wasn't paying for that trim the wings weren't even . I was livid. Its not like a haircut in 2 months will be back he looks awful. Im hoping he finds them ugly to and encourages them to fall out naturally. On a lighter note they are in great health and tiago weighed in at 235grams so im happy and the beak thing she shaved off the peeling skin and says birds do that during molting due to his body taking up the vitamins and nutrients more but said vitamin supplements if it keeps peeling would be an idea. I know that will be my last visit there. Even if i have to drive far, they will not do that to my boy again. As for zuri he was quiet as a mouse during his time for nail trim no wing trim for him.
  23. One thing ive learned in life is exactly what judygram said dont believe everything you read. Take it in context and use it but parrots are so individual and the people who sometimes write are going by the numbers and thats ok. Ive always read that greys hate baths and they are loud and hated petting, i almost didnt adopt one because of it but took the chance and my grey is o/3 on all of those things so im so glad you finally got to hear his first words it must have been exciting

Wish we had bird shows up here and if we do i never hear of them. Are the prices good at these shows? I know what you mean about they can make toys out of anything one very cheap toy i make is used toilet paper rolls i stuff them with nuts and use string to tighten it up and Zuri has a 20 min toy. He also loves bells any kind and always finds a way to take out the little thing inside the bell i always have to watch him when i give him a toy with one. I cant write with anything in my hand with them the pens like a magnet if they are on me its straight to try and get my pen. I know im working on Tiago again since since his molt he lost a bit of his lovey doveyness. How and What did you do to soften yours up?, my old techniques arent working.
  25. wow really great pictures, and beautiful birds, one of each a TAG and CONGO Id like to have that one day
