We do have stores but the closest one is really about an hour away so its not worth it, especially with gas plus i went once when i was coming back that way and its a small place nice but more toy parts than anything. That is a really good idea copying a playstand i see. But those java ones are hard to do. Tiago actually has been a pain im trying to figure out why hes being so bity all of a sudden. I know hes in his 2's but i have never been nervous to give him a kiss but the other day i swear he went for my lip to bite, i just saw his eyes in time and i pulled away and he had beak ready for a nip. Maybe hormones or something. And tycosmom wow that is a really nice stand wow that must have been some work and a half. I like it. The one thing i want in this one is a bottom that can catch the stuff falling. like a seed catcher design that lips up to stop sooommmee of the stuff, god knows they can fling stuff!

ive been looking at them but they are a little expensive and then shipping here would hurt a bit, and the darn duty at the border..haha. Geeze when you see something on their you go hmm good price but then think our dollar has sunken fast in the last month to your dollar when ours was worth more for a bit there...oh well ive been really busy so im trying to fit in some designing time but dont want to take away time with the boys so ive just coped with what i got. IM trying like im sure you all are to save my pennies these days and christmas is coming oh boy $$ everywhere going!..

Never thought of grapewood ill have to check it out. Im not sure if its available here in Canada. I was planning on using wood some how but the thing is i want to make it more compact im not sure if you 2 had seen my stand it was 4 feet long and 2 feet deep and reached about 4 feet high with the branches and levels and found they both never really used the whole thing. Like would perch and play as hihg as they could and come down to eat and drink, so i just felt it was a waste of space. So I wanted to make it easy to clean but straight up instead of wide. Problem is its been soo wet here and we got our first dumping of snow so my parents backyard has really good bird safe trees and my dad keeps the trimming and branches but now they are soaked and covered in snow. So im trying to design one from bird safe wood at home depot and pvc. I recently built a portable one using just pvc but found it was really flimsy and ok for tiago whos light but zuri while playing and hanging upside down etc, he really rocked it around spilling the water dish. You both have good ideas and i looked into the java tree ones but wow they are expensive so def a no there. Its a pain moving the stands room to room now but its ok for now. I talked to the lady yesterday in the elevator and she seems really happy her CAG loves it. I made her some toys too, made a few im going to try and sell on the web locally here too, see how that goes worked a quite a few this weekend.

both of you have done wonders with your birds i guess ive been lucky with mine, but you both taking in re-homes is a big deal and i commend you on it. She has given you a great idea of getting him in neutral ground is very important. Take him somewhere he doesnt know and practice the step up. To this day once a week or so i have both birds do step up from hand to hand over and over till they give me the little bit of beak saying "heyyy enough already i get it!!" I figure it'll keep them knowing whos boss. With tiago i used to get nasty bites the first few weeks as well getting him out of his cage. He is veeerrryy possessive of the cage as well, i cant change the toys in there when hes around with zuri he could care less he just hops on my back while im cleaning it and comes for a kiss. Try as i might to get tiago to get over it he doesnt. But after a few days he steps up no problem after i did the technique i described to you. Zuri was a breeze and after that first day he's a little baby. guess different breeds different traits. Its too bad gizmo was so cage bound before it'll take time and patience. As for the squash maybe one day ill get the nerve to try it, but right now ill pass Thanks for the karma technique i thought only the admin people could give that, and its so plain in sight there too..haha oh well have a great weekend.
  5. thanks for the link i was more interested in TAGs avg weight more than CAG's, it just seemed far fetched to be soo heavy and not obese. From what i read that claim is far fetched.
  6. Okay this is for all the Timneh owners. I was on a breeders website and they claim they have a timneh male that weighs 445grams and a female at 350grams. I find it hard to believe since my timneh weighs in at 315 grams avg. They said in their descriptions these are the parents and breeding couple. Im just curious and i know congos are larger and heavier on avg and they specifically say its a Timnehs. How much do yours weigh in at?

well thanks ill try that im not too sure about the spaghetti squash though haha, that sounds a bit to odd with the spaghetti sauce ill take your word for it though. I love buttercup and forget the other name of it but its soo good. K im going to sound like a dummy but how do we give each other karma? So my boys have to deal with the smaller room stands i gave mine away today i was trying to get ideas from other members but haven't seen one that i def wanted they are very nice and gave me ideas but its not what i envisioned. Guess ill have to go online to other stores. Have you ladies seen a really good stand idea anywhere? When i brought zuri home the first couple days he didnt want to step up either he was trained though. I sat near him read, napped and ate next to him and talked about random things. the first time i reached in i got a good bite. sat down talked some more and the next day went again, he stepped right up, that was the only time ive been bitten, my point is if hes comfortable enough to let you scratch he wont be scared if you slowly teach him to step up, I have this video where the trainer actually put her hand the same level as the perch and enticed the bird to just step on your hand for a treat. Its not even stepping up but just stepping onto because your hand is level with the perch he is on, if that makes sense, try that maybe but talk to him and he seems very intelligent and not vicious take it slow he'll come around.

wow you have made great leaps with gizmo good work, he was cage bound before you right? and his pin feathers are a good sign when a bird gets a good diet it sometimes triggers a molt so thats good for you and gizmo. and dont you know it i tried the squash thing you mentioned and it turned out pretty good. I thik ill have to buy some more i love the stuff and zuri and tiago loves it too, their beak gets all orange and look so funny. thanks for the help
  9. great idea to have this room, im having trouble getting people to help me for ideas on a new playstand i need to make, ive seen them around on different posts but i dont have time to search for them too much.
  10. and thanks for the link it didnt work haha but i went to the website and found it and shes a very special girl and im sure she'll love her toy it looks very fun
  11. wow that is a really nice stand as well, great work it looks li fun for him. I built a tiny mobile one from pvc and had the same problem being shaky cause a. didnt use glue and b. made it with the same diameter tubing. Im getting some really good ideas from you all, im stuck on if i want to use pvc or wood? I have to make is eye appeasing as i have to make 2 of them and still be not something that stands like bamm in the room as much as possible. The boys do enough of that themselves with the mess..lol

wow that is really true i love that fact too that we have birds that are not the norm, but having birds period here is still kinda different like people when im carrying the boys in their carrier will be like is that your cat? turn it to them and they are like wow a bird, i never wouldve thought. Its true no one has heard of a alexandrine but ask about a grey and you get a much different answer. I am so glad as well your mom is getting better i know it was stressing you out and taking you away from your flock but it'll get better. thats right you guys have thanksgiving coming, we have ours in october i always wondered whats the reason? and im sure your little ones will be spoiled with all kinds of different tastes, i brought home lots of different things from my parents of leftovers for them, they loved it.

    7ft fall

def good advice my zuri fell off a top of the door but sure he fluttered to the ground ok, hes clipped but i was scared and checked him over too, him being a congo he weighs more so ive read they do have times when they break bones during a fall so i good once over him is great advice, but in the wild birds fall out of the nests and live so try not to blame yourself if you are.
  14. I am glad he's warming up to your family and keep up the good work. Hopefully soon you can handle him without the bites and im sorry your having trouble finding a vet i had/have the same problem found one but they turned up being not great so i have to look further now.

I know what you mean there was just something there i felt when i picked him out that i just knew even though the people there didnt think so. I am def happy with him. Yeah like all birds have their thing, wish he was just a bit less noisy sometimes, but i knew this before signing up so im ok with it. I feel in general they have a bad rep. with them not being very cuddly im happy with his level of it ive gotten the love back i lost when i gave him his space during molting.
  16. Diddo what trustdace said thank god for people that have hearts like your family. He is very pretty bird even though his diet was terrible. Some things are meant to be and prob him coming to you was. I hope and know he'll find true happiness with you
  17. yeah i figured that i bought one of those boings lie yours kinda and put it above this stand and he spent most of his time at the top biting the ceiling so i had to take it down. Guess the natural height thing birds feel comfortable with took over.

well it wasnt tiago per say it was alexandrines they said werent their fav parrot mostly cause of their independence and loudness. I have yet to truly believe that, yes they arent cuddly and can be louder not terrible though but i fell in love with him even then. At the time this store had every kind of parrot practically so maybe they just had their favs like we do. Ive treated them with love and respect and have gotten it back from them so im happy.

Thats soo funny how he had garlic breath..lol I never thought but once it was my fault i gave zuri a jalapeno pepper and he ate it and later i had him on my shoulder and he gave me a kiss and it was the pepper but it was too late the little bit of the juice on his beak got on my lip and it burnt me..haha. The things we do eh? Well zuri is still the little suck he'll want to make out with me for 5 minutes i have to say hey stop you had your kisses..lol.Tiago is a little too tongue action for me when he kisses he sticks his little tongue out, i love him but.. I always wonder what people thought reading our posts like whoa these guys are crazy!! Im glad you enjoy reading about our birds and alex's and IRN are quite the clowns and fun too like you've read from us. They def. enjoy being the centre of attention and i can speak volumes about their antics but still cant believe how close i was not getting one because the people at the store didnt like him or the species wow they are soo wrong.
  20. Thanks everyone so far and that is some amazing ideas already i do love both of your stands. I just have to keep it smaller since i need to make 2 of them now because my boys dont like to be too close and my stand was huge and had enough space for them to stand each other. Casper your stand seems the right size what is the bottom like size wise? And to answer your question his name is heinz shes a german lady..lol and heinz im pretty sure he was around 10.
  21. Hi all, I met a really nice elderly lady in my building today that has a grey and cant afford a really nice playstand and doesnt have the means to make one, so i offered her mine the one i built. I only have a small portable one after i give her mine so i have been wanting to make a new one anyway and it felt right to give her mine and gave me an excuse. This being said im kinda stubbling on what i want for my next one. If anyone can do me a favour and post pics of theirs to give me some insight on what works for you and what your birds enjoy. Thank-you

Zsa zsa must feel like sammy took over with his talking and being out staged haha..i agree they do learn that way good point. When i raise my voice when hes being bad zuri kinda does what kids do when you do that kinda gives me im sorry look and has the oops look. Its been gorgeous here all week ive been trying to get them outside as much as possible before the long winter hibernation. One day id love to build a heated sunroom even a small one in my house so that i can take them for some sunshine otehr than through the windows like they get now. Im giving my playstand to a elderly lady i met because she cant make one and wants to have her grey out like how i do. I didnt even know there was another grey in my building. I want to build a new more compact one anyway and she was a nice lady so why not eh? About the election i dont want to knock your countries ways but it just seemed forever the lead up to it, here i think its 2 months from announcing it to election day. I cant see how an avg. citizen that would be an amazing president be able to afford a campaign that long..its odd. Yes you being from texas im sure you didnt vote for him. from what i saw your one of the few states.
  23. i agree i like the adult eyes better for that reason its easier to feel what they are feeling if you know what i mean. They are still cute and nothing is creepy like a senegal eyes, they are cute birds but something about the eyes that kinda spook me..lol
  24. mine dont eat at the table they have their own custom stand with food bowls and i fill the bowl when i sit to eat a few feet away. The boys always want to eat at the same time, its their flock mentality, but thats me, im sure others have their own system. Im sorry you have to worry about being bit, I have been bit only twice at that was the first 2 days. I bet its frustrating thankfully you havent given up on him yet

haha thats funny mine are jealous boys too there is no hissing but def. no love there..lol. Ive always read that birds pick up words in excitement in my experience its true if i say something in my normal voice i have yet to hear either of them repeat it. If im higher pitched or say something in a surprised way its picked up much easier. maybe their attention is more focused im not sure, what do you think? Are you happy or disapointed in the presidency change?
