wow you 2 have huge families yes christmas must be such a burden on the pocketbook with you. Plus the birds and you know we have to buy them something too!! How are your zsa zsa and raja any new words? I taught them the bomb whistle zuri got it after a day and tiago does his own version of it. I think im going to regret it, its getting on my nerves already. I kinda wish i could be with them at their breakfast time but i gotta sleep so its not going to happen but i do make them a bowl of fresh stuff but they dont seem as interested because they have been awake so long and are dying for attention at least my guess. I cant have my 2 together either they just are ok with each other but want their space. but i never had high hopes they would i figured being different breeds the chances were small ti nil
  4. I agree with bits and peices of everyones comments but i agree we dont know Mr T and his ideas or plans but i dont think its far fetched to think a grey MAY be able to be accustomed to going outdoors and going camping etc. Yes if his plans were to be screaming down mountain trails on his bike with the bird id be the first to say what the hell are you thinking??? but i dont think he's that naive. I have a elderly old neighbor that rides his bike in the park with a custom perch on his bike for his cockatoo they look so cute riding around and the bird loves it when he stopped to talk to me he began to bug his daddy to get going again..all im saying is if the grey decides not to want to do these things after carefully trying then he'll have to deal and love him like he said he would. As much as our environment differs from their natural one they as we would hate to be cooped up indoors all the time. My Zuri hates new people but loves going in the QUIET outdoors like a park and i can tell loves the outdoors but again thats a one case and every bird is different lie we are. But you all raise valid points that he should listen too, but ultimately him and his grey will have to share their bond in whatever way they can.
  5. 5) could've bought a sports car but bought my grey
  6. Although everyone seems rough on you its cause they love having birds and you'll see we are all pretty crazy with how we treat our birds they dont mean any harm or anything im sure. I have heard and seen people slowly introducing their birds to camping and bike riding and have special carriers just for that purpose. We just want you to make an informed decision and yes greys are different than lets say a amazon which is a very outgoing parrot and very smart compared to the "average" grey that is shy and scared of trying new things. I def think in my opinion if you plan on doing the type of things you want get a baby and SLOWLY bring him/her into it. A re-homed parrot are for experience and patient owners and even i dont feel i have enough experience to do it and i have 2 parrots. But please do your research and when/if you get one treat it amazing and it'll be your best friend for a long time

Yeah no amazing Halloween things for me either. Just another day i had to work as well so I never seem to have the ngiht off but stayed in tonight and watched horror movies, nothing special. I know how it is being busy but i think even our feathered friends understand. When i tuck in the boys here well i take them to their cage before i leave to work and i say get to bed, most nights they hustle to their top perches before i shut off the light but sometimes they do the begging thing birds do and chirp and be like 5 more minutes dad. Retirement ooo that would be nice and just hanging out with the flock and not having the thought urgh gotta go to work soon anymore but your right we all have to do it. All we can do is make the best of the time off we have right. How is your new friend Gizmo doing?

Yeah the snowy days are coming but at least the air gets all cleared out and that way we cant get too bored of the warm weather...ya right!! Texas is soo far away and you guys are scary your motto is dont mess with texas right?lol..kidding yeah it seems like a really nice state. Id like to ravel and see all the bird shops when i read the magazines some of the nicest and biggest seem to be down there. Its soo rare to see one around here. I think people are really missing out on having a parrot. I have to say i wouldnt have ever thought we had them here until the store i bought mine came into town. Its a shame.. and i def know how you feel about the furniture tiago has to be watched 24/7 he'll make toothpicks out of anything even with a cage full of new and exciting toys he likes the chairs as well

ya tiago cost me some $ at my old apartment i had just got him and i made the mistake of leaving him alone outside his cage and when i came into his room half the window frame was gone and now in pieces on the floor, not too happy about that i had to fix it before moving out. As for Zuri i had his playstand too close to the window and he decided to chew the vinyl blinds. All in a matter of minutes urgh oh well we love them right? And ya it was the kinda of snow that stayed on the grass til morning and never stuck to the ground it suppose to go up now to 16 degrees celcius not sure about Fahrenheit which is pretty warm for the time of year so we are def. getting some flip flop weather this week. Id miss the snow but id be happy for snow a month of the year and then it can go away..lol..maybe it'll listen to me some year.

Well im happy that you havent had any accidents around and that goes for both of you im learning something new i had this misconception free flighted birds meant poop everywhere and things getting chewed and knocked over. Guess you both have done an amazing job in training them to be good birdies. I just know if i left tiago out he would cause destruction on the nearest wood. Very big congrats go to the new mommy and her baby she just got home well not baby anymore but you know..I hope hes adjusting well after the long drive. We are getting our first snow its not staying yet on the ground but its coming down and sticking to our cars yuck!! I am not ready for winter yet. Do you ladies get snow in your areas i know B.C. does but depends on where you are.

It is just a thought i dont know for sure but i thought of it as being a good reason. He does chew wood but very rarely and he'll work at one toy for a hour and never touch it for days, where tiago will destroy it in a day. I dont mind soo much it does save me money..lol Thats good that they are seasoned fliers, my birds when they do fly go down fast. But you have a good plan by having a stand in each room at least they have a target. Maybe one day when i get a house ill give them that kind of freedom, they have to earn it..haha oh christmas tree haha that would be funny seeing an alex in there or lack thereof of seeing her. Id be scared of the things on the tree getting broken but im a worry wort anyhow.
  12. he is a very beautiful bird congrats and he still has his cute baby eyes. Yeah i dont blame him your nice and warm and soft to him

thanks i hope they enjoy it too, if it works ill buy another carrier and do the same thing. Ive tried all that you mentioned and they love the walnuts they should be coming into season again its always near christmas. I wondered what life would be like with a flighted birds and im getting the idea id be in for a long day like that. I love them but them flying all over would be hard. Do they ever knock over stuff? I think his lack of playing is due to the less than given toys when he was at the store. He had toys but not im sure a rotation of them. Its my guess anyways its not like i know for sure. I do play with the toys and take them away and then give them to him and hes like I got it now what, ok drop it..lol I know hes happy and loves me which is great.
  14. be patient and leave it in the room with your grey in his view and he'll build trust. I built this stand from pvs where i always made it of wood and he was freaked by it. Left it in his room for a week or so and then tried again and he slowly loves it and now hangs upside down on it. I think he's part bat i tell you

But otherwise i know we both spoil our birds and apparently your dog and kids too..oh my..lol. Hopefully you spoil yourself sometimes as well. Zuri just isnt too much into wood toys like today i gave tiago one of zuris wood toys its like a very easy to chew wood and zuri has been at it for a couple weeks but lost interest gave it to tiago and he half destroyed it already. I bought foraging toyss for zuri and again just not into toys unless they are paper but that wont help his beak to naturally wear away. Any ideas? i do have toys in their cage and rotate them and everything and what zuri does when im sleep i have no idea like the mornings cause i work night shift. whereas tiagos cage is littered with wood everyday. So weird how they are soo different do you have that with yours? any break throughs with you and your grey?

Wow congrats on your new rescue i didnt know i looked at another post of yours and noticed, well good for you and i bow to you how you do it and afford it..lol..He is a very nice bird even though he looks a bit rough but in your care shouldnt be too long. Good luck with him and after you get him id lie to know how they differ from our birds ive always been a bit intimidated by the larger beaks of macaws and there...larger voices..haha.

Id have to say your birds are spoiled haha..but i understand totally everyday i think how i can make them happier and share most of my food with them even a small bite of french fry..shhh dont tell anyone..haha But i noticed that they wont play with a box thats bigger than them, i think they get scared but toilet paper rolls filled with paper and a treat inside is a daily fav for them, tiago its a 5 or less min toy for zuri its about ten mins. zuri just gets bored so quick and drop whatever he has in a sec if it means a chance for a walk with me well on me that is. Tiago is is humble playing with his wood toys..I spent a bundle at the toy supply place and $20 worth of wood and cut it all up and ready for some toy making when my stuff gets in. I dont have a toy box because they spend nights and the first hrs of the day in the cage and the rest on the big playstand so the toys are all hanging on the stand. Doesnt it get all covered with poop? or is it not on the bottom like im picturing it? If i put a wicker basket in there it would last a day with tiago. I am almost complete making my new carrier ill post a pic when im totally finished i hope they like it better if it works ill make one for each. I did it without spending a lot but $10 worth of s.s. screws and fasteners.
  19. def ask us anything your concerned about ive had my Tiago hes an alexandrine a bigger version of a ring neck but same family. Tycosmom is right to keep them "tame" you need to give them a little more attention than the avg parrot. and they are prolific wood chewers so it will cost you a little more for toys unless you make them yourself like i do for a big savings. but if you have any questions ask away. here is my tiago..for reference

1000x eh? that is pretty cool. It is nice to get out of the city and go for a drive and its one of those i had to come home somehow and figured why not have a little fun too. With gas prices a drive like that for fun wouldnt be a reality. If it wasnt an overnight trip i wouldve taken zuri he loves to go out and drive hes so calm and watches everything. Tiago doesnt like car rides. Im making it a priority this winter to get him used to the harness so i can try one year of not clipping him and see what happens. Hes the only one of the 2 that will let me get that touchy feely. Hmm biggest challenge...Id have to say keeping them amused in the toy dept. More so zuri than tiago because tiago as long as it wood or breakable hes happy. Zuri is a challenge in that hes very picky and loses his focus easily gets bored more or less but i guess im not challenging him enough or havent found his niche thing. He just wants to be on me 24/7 and switching them to harrisons is the challenge i havent yet done so def the food thing for both. And my guys love the boing too i have one as well and zuri will hang upside down and flap soo hard and do monkey sounds yelps it is soo funny too.

I def did enjoy the trip i drove there and took the back roads back so saw the countryside in the north and lots of those trees you wanted to see. We have a town called salem here an hour or so way and they of course take halloween pretty serious so it was cool to drive through. And yes they did miss me tons they almost didnt want to go to bed when i got home it was their usual time to go and they just kept all over me which is ok i missed them a lot as well. And wow i agree that must have been so scary for you and i def agree that feeling saved your life, so many people as soon as they are told you have months to live they seem to die. I think a person's spirit dictates when you really are going to die. Yours was remarkable and good for you to fight it and have turned your life around and now helped rescued birds and save them from probably early deaths.

hey ladies sorry i had a wedding this weekend out of town and been so busy catching up since i got back on the regular house chores i usually do on my day off, so I hope you both are doing well and glad you had a great trip and didnt lose all your money. When you can come back from vegas with your money you've done well i would think. Im glad your birds didnt miss you too much I left the boys for about almost a full day, left sat afternoon and came home the same time sunday. I was soo worried but i made some very safe toys and they securely in the cages, and when i got home i was jumped by them for attention and have been trying to juggle one and then the other since. Thats the longest ive left them since i got them. I ordered some toy parts and think im going to try and sell them online toys i build i mean. Its worth a shot if they dont sell ill keep them for my boys so its not a lost cause i just want to see as a experiment. Thats soo cute about you reading to your birds haha, and that hes picking up on the words, which is great.
  23. thanks for sharing the photos you both look very happy and great idea with the wrap i'll have to try it when my boys nails get a little long. She is a beautiful girl still get a tiny bit intimidated with the beaks on those..haha the whole idea of being able to snap a broom stick in half is kinda scary.
  24. well im glad you were able to save her from that lif and give her the best life even if it means it may be cut short, all the best with her
