1. Thanks! The best part is that I will be able to visit the baby on the weekends and hopefully bond before bringing her home.
2. Whisper has recently began barking like the neighbors dog. It cracks me up. Right now she is sitting on my shoulder barking. She has found that it makes me laugh and I think that is why she does it so much. This bird constantly amazes me.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/10 14:45
3. Some of you might remember the problems I have encoutered trying to get an Amazon. I got a BFA but had to return her because she was sick. I found a wonderful breeder in a nearby town but have been waiting for his Zons to get that "loving feeling". I have been so impatient. It has finally paid off! I now have DYH egg on hold! He is a wonderful breeder and a true bird lover. Hilltop Aviaries in Harrodsburg KY. He has waiting lists and only sells his birds to people he feels for sure would be good forever homes. Dave, I know you told me to stay away from the DYH. but I think I can handle a female. I figured I would rather have a DYH from this wonderful breeder that a BFA or other from unknown origins after my bad experiences. Sooo about the end of the month Whisper's sister will hatch. I am so excited.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/09 21:18
4. My CAG even gets upset watching basketball. All that physical stuff, she starts screaming.
5. A lot of Greys don't start talking until they are a year old. It won't be long now. I just talk to my bird in normal conversation.
6. My baby is 16 months. I met a woman yesterday at work who's grey is 19 yrs.
7. I too was a bleach lover and I miss it. I don't use it on the floors any more as that is a large area and so would create a lot of fumes. Occasionally I will use a SMALL amount in the kitchen sink but only if Whisper is in her room on the other side of the house. If I need to disinfect anything large I take it outside and dilute 1:10 and rinse thoroughly.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/03/30 02:05
8. I know I need to do another tape. The last one was a long time ago.I am just being lazy. I don't mind so much recording it as editing and uploading. UGH!
9. I only leave dry food during the day and offer fruits and veggies in the evening on her playstand. It makes cage cleaning a lot easier this way too.
10. I take Whisper into the shower with me also. That is the only way I can get her wet.
11. Whisper started talking early but kind of leveled off for a long time. She was saying the same 5 or 6 things over and over even though there were a lot of things I heard her say at least once she had only been saying the same 5 0r 6 phrases since she was a year old. But in the last 6 weeks she has really taken off! She has said 6 new phrases in the last 6 weeks. It has been a new phrase every week. We are now up to 21 phrases that she says regularly. This week it is " Are you ready for bed?" She is 15 months. I think that is pretty good for 15 months considering it is just the 2 of us and I work so much. She is just a lot more chatty and verbal lately too. Maybe it is because it is Spring. I am so proud of my baby I just had to brag.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/03/21 05:08
12. Persistence pays off! Good job Emma.
13. Very cute. Thanks for sharing.
14. Great photo. I have tried changing out Whisper's perches but she was afraid of the new ones. That gives me an idea to just rough up the one she has. Thank your bird for the great idea.
15. Congratulations! It is so exciting when they say the first word. We are celebrating with you.
16. I can echo what others have said. Whisper learns the things I say to her in everyday speech. I tried the recorded stuff too but she never said a single word of that. She repeats the things I say to her in normal conversation. I have thrown in a few fun things too. Like Whoopdee doo! To give you an example, here are a few of the things she says all the time. She is 15 months old. 1. Are you a good girl? Are you a good girl Whisper? 2. Are you a smart bird? 3. Hello. Helloooooo. 4. Give me a kiss. 5. Want a scratch? 6. Go Poop! Go go go poop. 7. Whatcha doin? 8. Hey Whisper 9. Step up. 10. Come on step up. 11. You wanna step up? 12. Koochi koochi koo 13. Laughs 14. whistles 15. Come on. 16. Whoop dee doo. 17. Whoooooo 18. What? 19. Are you a good bird? 20. Good girl! 21. Is it good? There are lots of other things that she has only said once or twice but these are the things she says all the time. The more you talk to him the more he will pick up. Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/03/15 16:58 Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/03/15 22:45

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/03/19 02:44
17. I have the tv on for my Grey while I am at work. Not all day because she needs her quiet time too. I have it on a timer. She likes to watch the childrens channels. If you are gone that long during the day you might try it.
18. The breeder that I reported to the Humane Society was on birdbreeders.com and had good rating so you cannot go by that.
19. Whisper was molting when I had her to the vet for a check-up. The vet warned me about blood feathers and told me to have some quickstop on hand. She said that it looks worse than it really is. She also said that I might have read in OLD OUTDATED books to pull the feather. She said not to pull the feather. That this is outdated way of doing things. So now I am confused.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/03/14 00:44
20. I vote for Wally! Great Idea.
21. That is hilarious! Now he is going to have a bag phobia.
22. It is the same with the t.v. remote for me. She is crazy about the remote. I had to give her the extra one as a toy so she will leave mine alone while I am trying to watch t.v. I took the batteries out and said here you go.
