1. As far as we know they all probably eat some of it while shredding. I mean how would we know?
2. Whisper has a blood feather right now. I try not to think about it. She molted her flight feathers over the last few months and has had a lot of blood feathers but did not break any. It is probably not that common. The have them whenever they molt those feathers. You only hear about the broken ones so it seems like it happens a lot. So I am here to tell you about the ones that didn't break. Just have some quick stop on hand. My vet says they will not bleed to death from it. It looks worse than it is. 3. You don't want to put her into it until you can no longer smell paint in the house. I waited a week and gave it a good airing out. I know someone who killed their bird when they painted. Said they did not know any better.
4. As for the mockingbird. Try laying down a rubber snake on that window sill. Perhaps it will scare him off.
5. Mine amazes me everyday. It's like I knew they were great talkers but tt is a new phrase or 2 every week. I had read of greys with a vocabulary of of hundreds of words but I thought over a lifetime. Heck she is only 17 months old and saying over 30 phrases. Not just words but phrases. This week her new phrase is "Stop it". Because when she nibbles on my ears I tell her to stop it.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/21 19:43
6. Do you see the new tail feather coming in or did you find one on the bottom of the cage. How old is ZZero? I ask because they don't usually get new tail feathers until they are between 18mo and 2 yrs. Whisper is getting a bunch of new tail feathers along with this molt and she has been a little crabby lately. She will ask for a scratch and then push me away. Then ask for the scratch again. I swear it is like dealing with a 2 yr old.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/21 19:00
7. Thanks Dave. I know I am a worry wart. It just seemed like a week was awfully quick for it to grow back out. I was afraid there was some kind of illness that makes the beak grow faster or too much of a vitamin or something like that. And then again.. I could just be imagining it.
8. Awww. Hard to turn them down when they ask so sweetly.
9. Some of you may have read my previous post about taking Whisper to the vet because she had a huge chunk in her beak that kept getting larger. The vet sent some of the beak for pathology. She also trimmed her beak down considerably shorter. She said it was a little overgrown. This is my question: How fast does a beak grow? It has been less than a week and it already seems to be the same size it was when I took her in. That seems strange to me. No results from test yet.
10. Somewhere, I once saw a photo of Alex before Harrison's and after. There was a great improvement in his feathering. We have to realize that 30 yrs ago people did not know what they do today about diet for parrots.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/21 16:09
11. Subscribing. I suggest you do some research. Google Irene Pepperberg and the Amazing African Grey named Alex.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/20 18:28
12. It is unforgivable that your vet is unable to get the records from the other vet. I would have been knocking at their door threatening a lawsuit if treatment for your baby was delayed because the new vet was unable to get the records.
13. Thanks guys for sharing your stories. Just the kind of 2nd bird I am looking for. I have an egg at the breeders scheduled to hatch at the end of the month. It will be the end of summer before she comes home but I get to visit her. I live alone also. Just me and Whisper who is pretty quiet. I am hoping the new bird will liven things up around here.
14. Hey guys. Thanks for your interest. My baby is certainly worth the expense. I may have to eat cereal the rest of the month but by golly she is stocked up on her expensive organic pellets.
15. I too am glad you found a better vet for Eli. I am so sorry for you and him.

17. Whisper has started barking like a the neighbor's dog and that cracks me up. Also, Coochie coochie coo is really funny.
18. Char

bad behavior

Does she get attention when she does that? Ignore her when she does it and she will soon learn that it does not work.
19. If he does not get enough sleep it will certainly make him grumpy. Is it possible for him to have a sleep cage in another room?
20. Probably not going to happen. Parrots are too smart to mix with politics.
21. Congrats on the new babies. I just love the picture in your sig.
22. What gorgeous girls you have!
