1. He sure is enjoying that. Thanks for sharing.
2. Whisper is on Harrison's High Potency Course. Her feathers look great and she is the sweetest bird alive.
3. She finally said it! Whisper has said I love you several times in the last couple of days. I could not understand why she was holding out on me since she says just about everything else I repeat with any frequency. Isn't is sweet?

They just didn't see it or were intent on forcing their will on the bird. Here is an example: Whisper does not come out of her cage in the morning before I go to work. She is accustomed to this and it is not a problem for her. Sometimes on the weekend when I go in there in the morning..She does not want to come out. It is not her routine you see. I ask her if she wants to come out. If she retreats, I say fine and leave the room and come back later. I respect that hey she just does not want to right now. Sometimes I will go in there 3 times before she is ready to join me in the other room.
5. My vet reccomends that you do not use the bird's regular cage for timeout. Rather, use a small cage in another room or a pet carrier.
6. Whisper is 17 mo old and she has never bitten me. Tonight I reached up while she had her head turned preening. She turned around and grabbed my finger {but did not bite} and said "Ooops". She says Ooops whenever she makes a mistake like losing her footing or dropping something. I have never said it when she has grabbed my hand like when we are playing or I surprise her like tonight but somehow she knows it means mistake. If I am doing something she does not like she will push my hand away. She has bitten my grandaughter and my ex-husband but not me. She spends a lot of time on my shoulder. I trust her completely. 7. Whisper has a different gutteral voice when she is trying out new things. And then she has some days when her voice is not as clear as others. I think it is normal.
8. Snowball certainly is talented. and so cute, Thanks for sharing.
9. Yep, looks like a girly girl to me.
10. If your vet said the nasal discharge and breathing are normal then you need another vet. Quickly!

12. I am so sorry for your loss and pain.
13. He is adorable. Just look at that red tail!
14. Well if you heard Whisper talk lately you would think I was mean. She keeps saying, "Stop it, stop it, Whisper stop it." All because I won't let her destroy my keyboard or my ears.

Losing Feathers

There are a lot of reasons why a Grey can begin to pluck and sometimes it can be difficult to figure it out. The first thing you should do is take her to an avian vet to rule out any physical reasons. As Dave said it could also be a reaction to stress. Moving the cage, ect. How much sleep does your bird get each night? How much out of the cage time? Also things like pollutants. Cigarette smoke, air fresheners, candles, cleaners, The trip to the vet is the first step. If they are ill or in pain it will cause them to pluck. There is a member here whos grey was plucking until they discovered an ear infection. No symptom but the bird was in pain and they did not know it. Good luck.
16. Has the Grey been exposed to very many people or children in the present home? They are all different but my bird does not like children and is very nervous when my grandchildren come over.
17. God bless Millie. Hang in there Millie.
18. Whisper sits and rides around on my shoulder all the time. Sometimes she slips and when she does she says "Oops!" but no bite so far. I am lucky. 17 months old and no bite yet. She has not given me any reason yet to not trust her so I do. If I am doing something she does not like she will take her beak and gently move my finger. I respect her wishes and stop. It is mutual respect and trust. There have been a few times when we are playing that she has accidentally taken hold of my hand with her beak. She will say "Oops" and let go.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/04/25 04:10
19. Well, urban myths do abound. Thanks for that other link. I think I will still stay away from them just to be safe. After all, it is glue.
20. Whisper has all kinds of whistles and outside bird sound but she still talks up a storm.
21. I am single and an empty nester. My baby is not exposed to too many people so probably not what you would call well socialized. I can say that she is definately afraid of and will try to bite my 4 and 6 year old grand children. They stay away from ther. As for other adults it is hard to say. She will step up for others such as my grown son and the vet and her assistants and will even say a word or two in front of them but she will not allow them to try to pet or scratch her. She kind of tolerates them but looks for the first opportunity to come back to mama.
22. My vet warned me about the possibility of zinc in the glue of paper towel rolls we like to give our birds. I did a little search and there is some info on the internet. Whisper loves them but I stopped giving them to her. http://www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/zinc.html I read another article where Kimberly Clark the manufacturer says it is not recommended for pets. do some searching there is some info out there. I thought I would post this since I have seen posts where members mentioned using them. Better safe than sorry. To tell you the truth I kind of wondered about it even before my vet mentioned it.
