  1. Thanks alot, tons of beneficial info there I'll start reading it now
  2. 1- Do you guys use a night light for your bird? I have one because otherwise my room is literally pitch black. I put it right next to chloe's cage so she can see but it's not some big bright thing preventing sleep. How well is a bird's night vision naturally? 2- If my bird love's a seed diet but won't eat pellets, how can I substitute something else so she gets a healthy full rounded diet? Are fruits and veggies on the side good enough? If so, which veggies/fruits should I look into first to compensate for lack of nutrition in areas she might be suffering in (currently on a supreme parrot/with fruit seed mix). 3- When trying to potty train my parrot to only go on cages/perches, and I try to interrupt her or put any kind of newspaper under her before she goes anywhere else in the house she squaks at me like "hey get away from me" and sometimes takes a bite at me. Should I be trying this any differently or is that normal? 4- Knowing that grey's bond to one person, how can i attempt to make her like someone else just as equally? My girlfriend and I live together and chloe won't step up for her or really respond to her at all unless she is in her cage at the time and wants to get out. Any other time she pretty much ignored her, but as soon as I say step up she does it. I want us to sort of get a game plan together "as a couple" because if we each try to train her our own seperate way then it becomes confusing on the bird. So is her best bet to do what I'm doing and works for me, or should I originally pick up chloe and maybe say "go to jess" and show her hey this is my buddy it's ok do step up for her? Any ideas for those of you having multiple people handeling your greys?
  3. Mine likes to eat standing on her food bowl too, she tries to eat from her perch sometimes but usually she hates having to reach so whatever lol. But standing on metal must really suck.
  4. I hated birds, I hated parrot's in general, my only reason was because I was tired of seeing other people's "cool" birds that talk etc and not having a pet that could entertain myself and others. I originally selfishly bought a parrot for the pure reason of having something entertaining for friends to joke about and laugh at. Now that I have my bird and I see that they are not all fun and games and blown away by how messy they are and poop everywhere I must say i was sooooo wrong and regret being unprepared and stupid about my choice to buy a grey. But if you asked me to take it back or do it all over again I would still make the same choice. I LOVE my grey and she's so awesome can't imagine my life without her even after just 1 short month. I would gladly scrub bird poop and vacuum the floor 90 times a day to pick up all the seeds she tosses. Grey's are the best and even if she never talks and is the most boring grey alive she's my Chloe I think of her a little kid now more than a pet.

  6. How can a bird always stand on their feet it's entire life span and not get arthritis or hell just get tired feet? I know there's those orthopedic perches to help their feet but anything else? I see mine lift one leg up and scrunch her toes quite often to sort of stretch her feet and let them relax.
  7. Simple question, I've heard many members sugest harrison food to complement a greys normal seed and fruit and veggie diet because it's high in protein etc etc. What if my parrot doesn't like it? What else can i try instead?
  8. Lol thx. Ya Nyscha that is a pretty funny story.
  9. Thx I've never owned a bird before so everything they do out of the ordinary makes me panic She had her wings open today for example like moderetly spaced all day. Then she stopped later at night. I was concerned like aww chloe did you hurt your wing? I didn't see any visible cuts or pain though. So I asked the vet and they told me basically that was their way of cooling off sometimes kind of like how a dog sticks it's tongue out. Sometimes I forget they are fur balls underneath those wings. So I opened all the windows in the house and gave her a couple good mists and she was good to go.
  10. I feel stupid she somehow got a piece of her bird food or whatever a dried red chili pepper flake in her eye. She blinked it out and is good now. I swear it looked just like blood but crisis averted and money saved I took her to the vet and they were already busting out their little calculator like well you need this this and this and oh! this too and its like 400 bucks. I was like wow you don't even know whats wrong yet and you want to sell me all these medical procedure to give it anethesia and eye treatment etc etc. And the doc came out like in 30 seconds looked at it once swapped it with a Q-tip and bam I was out the door.
  11. I just opened her eye up more and noticed she has red on the bottom like she busted a blood vessel in her eye. Is that life threatening should I head to the vet now?
  12. My grey "chloe" woke up this morning and seems like her eye is messed up. She has one eye fully open and the other eye she can open too but it keeps closing and she tries to open it again but it slowly closes again. I gently slid her eyelid down to see if she got something in her eye like food or debris etc etc and I can't see anything. The coloration of the eye itself seems the same as the other eye. She's acting normal and overall seems happy and healthy but the eye thing hasn't changed in like hour. I'm hoping this is just something parrot's do? I don't want to take her to the vet unless I have too because vet's charge a small fortune and I'm rather poor at the moment but if it comes down to that I will. Is there anything else I can try or something I could self diagnose or test for? Is my parrot possibley just still sleepy or something and trying to sleep with "one eye open" as the old saying goes? Any help would be much appreciated
  13. No it's not true. I know several couples who have multiple greys. And theres even members on here that have multiple greys in the same enclosure. i think the member "ilovemygreys" has like 3-4 in one big big aviary size cage. Don't quote me on that though. I know they CAN get along and quite usually do. But not ALL get along. So be prepared to have seperate cages for them if they fight or scare each other but I think if both birds are even "Reasonably" tame and nice you will have 0 problems. Hope this helps
  14. My bird doesn't talk yet at about 7 months. She is makng more and more noises though which I bet is a sign she wants to explore talking and mimic'ing more. Right now she makes a velociprator noise, and grunting piggie noise, and yesterday she did for the first time what appeared to be a gun shot sound (was watching american gangster).
  15. I have some photos in the photo thread wendy
  16. Ya i didnt want the wings clipped it was a mix up between me and the breeder. I wanted it full flighted cause I don't believe in clipping even though im a new owner. I choose to take extra steps to make sure my bird doesn't fly away but let her be el-natural How long do clipped wings take to fully grow back? My understanding is they molt once a year or so and thats when new feathers grow back Also ladies and gents here is the videos I promised. Video #1 info: This is one showing the birds balance a little I was trying to play with her this morning but I was tired so excuse my voice. She isn't as bad in this video but you can see the off-balance part of it. Link: http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q65/Knightforeva/?action=view&current=Balance.flv Video#2 info: This is just a random video of me playing with my grey and entertaining her after waking me up at like 5 am :woohoo: You can see some random footage of my bird. Excuse the mess my voice and my annoying comments I don't do 5 am well so I was out of it. 20. Well since my bird woke me up at the crack of dawn *Again* I took some semi decent quality video to kind of show her off in her morning I want to destroy some stuff routine and you can also semi get a picture of what I mean by the balancing things. Maybe based off the video you can point out a mistake I may be making or give another opinon based off the bird. I'm uploading them now should be ready in about 15 mins, will post a link it's in quicktime format though not sure how to change it so you will need quicktime to view it.
  21. Well I asked about bad balance before in a diff post but I never really got a solid answer on it, and it was regarding just a little bad balance now it's escalated into the bird actually like falling alot on a daily basis. Either way I've decided to go to the vet tomorrow to have her checked out since the common answer seems to be go to the vet to rule out bad wing clip or neuro disorder. I just wondered if there could be anything else. The perch I use is manzanite wood. I'll look into other perches but that still doesn't fix the bad balance on my body as well =/ hopefully the vet can give me a solid idea tomorrow.
  22. Ya i checked that site out already but was curious if there was more resources out there.
  23. He is just trying to get around honestly not playing at all. just getting from A to B is seeming like a tedious task
  24. I'll keep this really short cause I am tired. My CAG is 8 months old almost. It is clipped and not fully flighted. It falls like 5 times a day off perches and my hand even sometimes. It has extremely bad balance and cant seem to hold itself still other than when it sleeps. It is afraid to move on perches or climb up and down the cage because it slips all the time and loses it's grip. is this something that happens among babies much like human babies that try to walk and fall all the time? Or is this something else? Can I help my bird gain better balance or do I just have to let it fall and give it time to self learn?
