I'm not sure if I have asked this question before I tried searching but couldn't find any old posts so i apologize in advance if this is a double post. My question is simple what site do you guys use to order dvd's on bird training? I've seen www.birdtricks.com but it seems like a scam to me and a bunch of videos to fix problematic things which i don't have. I'm looking for purely teach your parrot to do tricks video. At the moment all she knows is step up and i want to teach things like turn around, wave, flip upside down etc etc. I know most of these can be self taught with tricks but I have tried for 2 weeks+ now with no success. I am a visual learner and it's not enough for me to know what to do i need to physically SEE someone do it and replicate it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've never used aloe baths I use african grey shampoo is that good enough or is aloe better and if so how do you apply it like shampoo? So she is clipped now are you guy's saying it could be potentially like 4-6 months before she loses her old flight feathers and the new ones grow in?

I was wondering if greys give signs they are about to molt. Chloe is about 11 months or so and close to the one year marker, and the past 2 days I've found at least 20 little white fuzzy pre down feathers all around the house. I know she is not plucking because I watch her and I haven't physically seen her pull any of them out. So I was just wondering if there is usually an order of how they lose their feathers and how long the average molting session last's from start to finish. Also when they molt will my bird be totally naked for awhile or do they grow feathers in as fast as they lose them? And when they are naked from molting do you have to compensate for anything like less showers or expect worse balance etc. Do they lose all their feathers or keep the head feathers?

I've bought and/or collected a few toys for chloe over the past month or so worth about 60-70 bucks and she pretty much not only dislikes them but is terrified of them or feels threatend by it. So if anyone wants the toys for free to go to your bird maybe you will have more luck. I'd rather give them to a member then junk it, I can't return it to the pet store no refund policy =/ If your in san diego or north county I will even drop it off to you, otherwise I would just need S&H and I will do the rest.

I have full safety leathers and then some, and I've gotten road rash twice I know the pain even at a 25 mph spill all to well, I just couldnt do it that day I mean it was like 105 and I was dying. I started with full gear then saw there was major traffic and took it all off. Bikes with gear are fine as long as your moving but stuck in a traffic jam was like the pits of hell!!

What age group would be classified as babies? Mine is 11 months old right now.

Ya i agree where did you read up on the cold water thing? Mine shivers in the shower even with room temp or luke warm water. I usually have to turn the water up to inferno porportions to steam the thing up before she gets comfortable if it's hot and steamy enough she even falls asleep in the shower. My girlfriend loves hot showers like that too maybe I should get HER to wash chloe!!! But of course I keep the water room temp when I actually "wash chloe" cause I wouldn't risk burns just for the sake of comfort. She is smart enough to know after like 6 showers to just bite the bullet and get it over with. She hardly moves and let's me hit her undercarrige and all in one shot. It's rather smooth sailing I should probably thank my lucky stars. I had to buy her a shower perch though because as a guy she kept going for MY attached perch if you catch my drift. And even a nibble could send me screaming. But I'm over that hurdle now and all is peachy

Also on a side note and completely unrelated topic. How far should bar spacing be on a grey cage? I have 3/4ths of an inch right now and it looks sometimes like it might be too wide for her as she doesn't seem confident in foot placement and moving around so much. Should I have smaller or is 3/4ths ok?

Since I've had chloe my CAG of 11 months old for about a month now. I think I've spoiled her too much and been her 24/7 sugar daddy. Meaning.... when she wakes up in the morning and gives me that puppy dog face and the "I'm so sad that I'm stuck in this cage right now please come get me out" bird screech. I usually wake up get her out and put her somewhere close to me on top of her cage or what not to play. But even then if she's out I get another bird noise 10 minutes later like "hello? remember me your bird? Come play with me I'm bored!". And when she out in the living room and I'm awake she talks and isn't loud or obnoxious but constantly makes birdy noises for my attention or sits there like a statue and stares me down I'm guessing out of curiosity and boredom. It is getting to the point now where I can't pet her on her perch anymore because everytime I go to pet her or talk to her she sticks her foot out and tries to step up if I get close. She wants to be my center of attention and ON me physically 24/7. If I leave to take the trash out or even step out of the room for 2 min she calls for me in the sad voice again. I know this is all natural for the most part but if i start ignoring her to get rid of undesirable behavior am i going to lose her trust or affection?

I've been doing some research into (AVID) Microchips for birds. Supposedly it's a rather cheap effective relatively painless and harmless method of tagging you bird much like a leg band. Primary reasons being for identification but the microchip has a nifty feature to basically turn your parrot into a low-jack system. There is suppose to be a USA based company that for little each month has access to your birds centralized location at all times and it identifies them to animal control centers etc etc so there is no mix ups. Obviously I'm not worried about someone "stealing" my parrot but rather it getting out some day some how and flying the coop! This wouldn't happen by any means with even some what responsible guidance of the bird but for the over protective spoiling parrot owner is it worth it? Any info or 2 cents would be appreciated

I have a mirror for chloe, can't say if she likes or dislikes it but she does peck at it. I have yet to known if greys are smart enough to know hey thats ME! And not just some random image or thingy to bite at. I'd say it's more like another toy to mess with more than anything mental or social. I personally don't think it would affect ur greys experience talking to you. Besides they talk to get attention and if the mirror doesn't talk back im sure your grey will see it as a dead end. I'm by no means an expert just my 2 cents.

What about pasta's I heard greys love spaghetti o's and things of that nature but have yet to confirm nor try it until I know it's ok. I also heard they love refried beans or any bean paste in general as long as it's cleaned then fully cooked. Any truth in that?

I never thought greys would be allowed to have cheese since it's fatty and seems like it would clog them up, but I ordered a stuffed crust pizza from pizza hut like a week ago. I had her on her living room perch and ran to my room to answer the phone. When i came back I noticed she flew down to the floor to my plate and was eating my crust with cheese in it and had it in a thousand pieces on the floor *sigh*

I totally forgot to post mine once chloe wakes up and gets her morning breakfast out of the way i will post some up. Today's menu is cauliflower, broccoli, grapeds, strawberries, carrots, and celery sticks yummy!

Do greys have someting physically preventing them from speaking till later on in thier life? I mean realistically how early could a grey begin talking. Or does it take a minimum of a certain length of time before their voice or brain is developed enough to say words?
-
Wow "lovemygreys" you have like a parrot disneyland going on there, that is pretty impressive. I think you just won

I decided to start a thread not only for fun but to also give myself and others some ideas for future play pens and/or toy ideas. Anyone who wants to show off fancy perches, cool customized cages or any really neat toys swings etc etc feel free to post pics here. Show everyone how much you spoil your grey with photos of stories! I will be posting my pics a little later on this morning when I wake up for good heh. Adios!

Well I have a cage for her now already it's just not "a super cool cage"

oh one more question i forgot to ask, How far should bar spacing be for an african grey type cage. I was looking into getting this cage for chloe. I have to make a decision if I want the cage in the living room or leave it in my bedroom. Right now I have a perch for her in the living room and the cage in my room. Seems like a waste of money if she's almost never in the cage to begin with since I always have her out. But man that is one sexy cage! I need some toys for her too I notice pictures of others people's cages and they have like 10 toys in their cage as with me I have like 2-3 toys.
