1. I watch the tv show "Heroes" with chloe and eat a bag of popcorn each episode. I sit Indian style on the couch and she sits on my knee. And every time something crazy happens on the show I yell out "No way, did you see that coming? I know me either trip out" And she obviously has no clue what I'm saying but she gets super excited because I get excited. That's if she's not too busy stuffing her face with popcorn at the time. I have to eat the non butter no salt stuff for her sake which is pretty friggin gross but I get payback when she reaches her head in the bag to get popcorn sometimes i tilt it down and she slips inside the bag and it looks like the popcorn is popping all over again. It's like a little kid in one of those chuck e. cheese plastic ball play pen things. I'm evil I know but she gets me good when it comes to other things so pay back's a *****
2. Like the thread says Im in the market for a bigger cage for chloe. If anyone has a descent sizable (CLEAN) cage in the southern california area let me know. I'll PM you directly and we can do the pic thing and or discuss it via phone thx!
3. Ha ha ha I LOL'd in real life, very nice.
4. So background info on this pic before you see it. I had a college class assignment basically on the effect of second hand smoke and/or drugs on animals. For all those kids out there who think smoking their pets out and watching them do weird/funny things is cool. It was one of those extra credit random assignment as part of our science class. Anyways the major topic or emphasis of my report was you're usual how wrong it is type direction and that animals don't know any better. So I took this picture of chloe to further prove my point. Funny part is my teacher has CAG's and thought chloe was so cute and silly she completely ignored my report and gave me an A on the spot. So chloe took one for the team on this one. P.S. Because I know someone will ask and is most likely not going to approve of this pic for obvious reasons. 1) NO I did not physically light the cigarette I took the pic then blew the lighter out. 2) She only bit the filter of a new unlit cigarette so there was no tobacco or any other chemicals being tasted absorbed etc etc 3) Yes I am a smoker but I do not smoke anywhere within 50feet of my parrot nor do I allow her near harmful chemicals etc. No animals were harmed in the making of this picture Ok disclaimer out of the way here it is .....
5. The green one has a really trippy wing design I like it, but it looks so evil
6. My roomie and I did a great wall of china type deal out of soda cans once (we recycle so often have alot hanging around). We made a castle once purely out of soda cans. And I went outside to smoke a cigarette when chloe was out yesterday I came back and almost all went from my kitchen counter to the floor. When i asked my roomie what happened he said chloe had flown to the kitchen threw my wallet on the floor after chewing the leather some then rhino charged the castle and proceeded to see how many cans she could knock off before I came back in. 7. My situation seems even worse. I'm not going to lie I'll tell the story out right how it is. I yelled at Chloe today like I would yell at my worst enemy. I was sitting here doing homework while on the phone trying to resolve student loan issues and I was on the automated portion of the phone after an hour of calls and chloe just kept squaking like the most annoying pitch you've ever heard. So i got up opened her cage so she could entertain herself while i was on the phone and she continued to do it. The first few times I told her no and/or stop in a calm voice. Well long story short I told her No rather loudly the 5th or 6th time and i said it with the phone next to my mouth and the automated thing took my NO as a "end the call" reply and I was so ticked off I couldnt even think. Like 2 hours on the phone wasted. I put her back in the cage and closed the door and told that's enough i said no. Basically she did it again 30 seconds later and I lost control and shouted almost at the top of my lungs "What is you're ******* deal? I ******* told you NO!" Now I know I'm wrong on multiple levels before you guys go crazy on me, you never yell at your bird and you certainly don't give it attention when it's being bad and feed the negative behaviour...... I know all this I do I was just tired, PO'd and at my witt's end. I doubt/hope it will never happen again but sometimes people have horrible days and those around us unintentionally push our buttons. I'm not saying it's right or that's a valid excuse for my actions but nothing I can do about it now. I just need to know what I should of done instead so that I can prevent things like this from happening again. Chloe is almost always a good girl, but like any kid she has her violent outbursts and you just want to smack their butt. I have trouble dealing with a parrot when theyre SUPER out of control vocally or behaviour wise and I don't know what to do to handle the situation differently. I didn't lay hands on her and/or harm her and I never would, I would never harm any animal but it doesn't mean I don't get heated and mad sometimes. She's not afraid of me or anything or holding a grudge for yelling but she's not exactly dying for some cuddle time either. Any comments or anything you guys could add to help would be much appreciated. P.S. Sorry to slightly change you're thread Baxter's mom but i figured this would be easier than starting a new one
8. Most of it, going to get a brand new like 800 dollar tricked out cage and probably another 200-300 in toys that she'll never play with The rest goes to student loans credit cards etc etc
9. Ya chloe's beak gets hot like her feet too but slightly cooler so I'm willing to bet it's one in the same or close too it. P.S. No judy I actually won 4 grand Im a terrible gambler but I had super begginers luck.
10. Few weird things my grey does I was hoping someone could clarify on. #1- My grey only eats when I go to sleep unless it's people food. If it's people food she wants it whenever as much as she can. But as far as bird food etc she ONLY eats when I'm going to sleep wether it be 9 pm pr 4 am. #2- She growls sometimes on my shoulder. Anytime i turn my head to look at her or if i talk or anything once in awhile she is just a non stop growler. Nothing mean or threatening just constant low pitch grrrrrs. #3- My parrot always tries to french kiss me. I give her kissies on the beak all the time and in return I get tongue? Do I taste good or is she trying to make out with me. #4- Her body temperature always seems fine but her feet seem super hot to me for some reason I can't figure out why and wondered if it was normal for their feet to be hotter than their bodies.
11. just a quick question wondering what type of television or music your bird responds too most. I'm trying to find some music that catches the ear of my CAG and see what mellows her out or makes her want to dance etc. Just wondering what personally worked for YOU guys.
12. Vegas this weekend woo hooo and not just any gambling trip the best kind of trip! The kind where you get to gamble with rich friend's who pay for you!!! I get 300 bucks to play with and I'm pretty decent at texas hold'em so if I win even 400-500 bucks I'm going to stop and pocket it and only play with whatever I earn after that and buy chloe a new tricked out super pimp parrot cage and a billion toys for her to neglect and ignore and make me feel like my money was well spent!! /sarcaism off Wish me luck guys
13. Ya I liked that movie too. Before I joined the army I was semi racist, I definitely had some strong stereotypes about other races in cali living around me. Needless to say in the military the whole racism thing is squashed and you realize brown, black, white all you see in the end is red white and blue and knowing that person has your back makes him you're brother.
14. Thx guys ill check it out. Judy a question regarding oatmeal and baby foods. If oatmeal is given does it have to be plain oatmeal or can it have cinnamon flavoring etc. My parrot is like a dog she won't eat it unless she knows its not healthy for her. Many a times I come home and find my big mac box along with my big mac "murdered" and as far as baby food can i give anything or is there some stuff to watch out for?
15. Thx dan one more question can you explain the red palm oil thing? Where it does where I can get it, how much to give etc etc.
16. Im assuming it can still make them sick tho if it gets in their ears canals or they accidentally ingest it? I'm not bird technical terms proficent but the layer of dead skin or flakey skin is just on top of the pink layer that is their actualy fleshy skin covered by feathers. It is at the base of the feathers and not just in one spot here or there but evenly distributed. I only bathe my grey about twice a week sometimes once. She really hates showers and will do anything and everything to flee the scene. I put the water slightly above luke warm and the pressure on super low. But she usually hides in a corner of the tub where she doesnt get it. And if i move her to get wet she goes nuts. Then I feel bad because she sits in her cage wet and shivering. I mean I towel dry her afterwards as best I can but it really only removes the surface wetness. And when i get her showered I pretty much drench every inch of her body so nothing goes dry. Any ideas based off this info?
17. Is bird dandruff normal? I'm pretty sure it is but I had to ask. Mine flakes pretty good when I scratch her head. If this is not normal how can i treat her to moisturize her?
18. So I know it's like a common thing for greys to scratch or rub they're beak against stuff. Not sure if thats to clean it or sharpen it or trim it etc etc. Anywho chloe has done it so much that the outer layer of the top part of her beak is chipped in a couple places? Normally I would be worried but examining it, it seems like there is another layer of beak underneath it so I'm assuming that its like a finger nail? You clip it chip it etc but there another one growing underneath that will eventually replace it? Can anyone give me any insight on this? Just for peace of mind. Thx
19. Dissapeared for a few months school and work, etc etc. No time to breathe usual story. Chloe is like 14 months now. She was out of control for a while wouldnt listen to me squaked like mad etc etc. I started training her and punishing her. For awhile everytime she was on her perch she would fly off then go eat the plastic bordering on the kitchen floor and make a huge mess. I started telling her NO then putting her in her cage each time she did it. She's finally getting it now since she hasn't flown off in like a week so far but on a downside she seems to generally hate me more. She makes a weird angry throat grunt noise and when I pet her she kind of backs away from me. Anyways thats us but we're back and im sure u will be seeing 1,000 posts from me soon
20. oooo goodie a contest now I can torture chloe with a really good bath and some parrot shampoo!!! She's so happy when she gets showered and clean but man the aftermath of her being wet and air drying is the saddest face on a parrot you've ever seen I'll get some good one's!!

Post edited by: Knight05, at: 2008/05/06 10:43
21. United Arab Emirates?? UPS overnight uhhgg , considering the size and stuff I wouldn't know for sure but I would estimate off general costs like 120-150 bucks. Because UPS goes off weight and size. The weight isn't really an issue but the size is. And there is no way for me to break the whole thing down and compress it really. So ya usually something like this I would guess 30 bucks via the postal service. But if you went the ups route like 50-60 and to overnight tack on like 80-100 bucks. Basically almost the cost of the perch itself.
22. I probably should of mentioned since I'm local I'm based out of Oceanside, California on El camino real street. You can google map it for a better idea but I'm roughly 30 min north of san diego and an hour or so south of LA.
23. I couldn't find an "appropriate" thread for selling things and I'm not even entirely sure it's allowed on these forums. If it is but this is the wrong thread I'm hoping a mod will move it to the appropriate thread for me if it isn't then feel free to delete it entirely. I built a new perch for chloe last night since I had free time/money on my hands and I'm selling my old one. These same type of perches usually retail for around 250-300 bucks at pet stores. I'm selling mine for 200 on craigslist but am willing to give an even better deal to a greyforum member. The only requirements I have are I would strongly prefer NOT to ship since it's a pain and a half so being local is a +++ for me. I can't bring it to you since I only have a motorcycle and not a car/truck. Price for members of this forum is more flexible than 200. I can probably do 150 or maybe even 100 depending. I realize the economy sucks right now and everyone is poor so I will work with you and even do a payment plan if you so desire. We can discuss it over the phone if you are interested. I also have some old toys of chloe's "like new" I will throw in for free so they do not go to waste. From the pictures you can see that the perch itself is basically brand new still. It's dirty from poop/bedding and obvious bird reasons but I will scrub/clean it spotless prior to pickup. If interested PM me directly on this site or email me at spencer.yeagley@yahoo.com and I'll give you my number to discuss it further. Thanks *Note* The dimensions from the base board (where you put the bedding) are 52 inches high and 27 inches wide It also has 2 rings screwed into the wood at the ends for toy attachment.
