  1. I know just how you feel I'm going throught the same thing with a Macaw right now although I don't think my Macaw will take asa long as your Grey will. The reason I say this is because 14 months ago I adopted a 5 yr old Grey in basisly the same condition as Billy I would sit and eat my meals with her read childrens story's to her play with her toys sing and dance you name it I did everything to show her that I loved her and that she didn't have to be afraid of me. Finally after about 7 or 8 months of her doing nothing except try to bite me I was putting her to bed one nite and she looked at me very strangely and she put her head down as if to say here you go touch my head so I did I touch her head and it was only for a second but it was something she had never allowed before. I was on clou 29. after that every night before bed she would put her head down and the scritches becamelonger and longer thats how thing got started now she will step up for me and she cuddle and kisses. I've had her scine Oct9. 2007 so not very long but when your waiting patiently for her to give you a sign it seems like a lifetime. Another thing that I did was to never look at her straight on I always tryed to look at her with one eye or with my head down. This was to show her that I was not a preditor and that I would not do anything to hurt her. when I approched her cage I always came in from an angle never striaght on. these thing really helped allot. So give it a try I also foud eating my meals with her was what got her coming out of her cage she wanted some of wha I was haveing and the only way she couuld do that was to come to the side of my dish where I put some of my food for her.
  2. sometimes if the feathers are dammage in some way they will pull them out when they are preening. I would keep an close eye on her to make sure she is not pulling them out on purpose. If she is pulling them out on purpose it could be a sign that something is wrong like stress, How long have you been taking her with you to the shop mabie this is stressfull to her. when she is there is there allot of people that she doesn't know comeing up and talking to her if so this is very stressful for Greya its fine that you take her with you she should be exposed to new things but she needs to be kept out of the main traffic some place where she can still see whats going on but where she can't be interacted with directly from strangers. She also needs to be placed in a spot where she can retreat so if she wants to have a nap she can without feeling like she has to have one eye opened all the time. I don't know what kind of shop you have mabie if you could go into more detail. It would be easier to help you with this question. Because at her age it is not normal for her to lose feathers.
  3. Yes thats what she's getting more cage time I cut her off the grapes a 2 weeks ago. If she wasn't so determined it would be almos funny. She is so sweet and huggable Don't worry I stay away from anything that makes her excited but she sure is a love bug. I DYH are the worsy I'm glad I don't have one Fergie YCA is enough to deal with She's not afraid of anything so putting someting up there to scare her won't work she is a very confident happy healthy female Amazon. I don't think I've ever seen her look quite a gorgous as she does right now she just went though an extreamly heavy molt and so now hpretty much every feather she has is brand new and she just shines. Poor baby its one thing right after another first the heavyest molt I've ever seen and as soon as thats over it hormone time again. I hope she gets over this quickly I've been increasing her sleep time also hopeing that 14 hours instead of 12 will help stop the cycle.
  4. I've only heard of this happening a few times and I think if I remember correctly that it has something todo with a deficency in their diet. I would take our Grey in for a well bird checkup or at least give your vet a call and explain what he is doing he may have some sugestions for you that you can try. It isn't normal for him to be eating his own poop.
  5. I don't understand why people do this? If you don't have what you claim then why bother to post an ad what do these people expect to gain from doing this except to get someones hopes up. I don't understand how some peoples minds think. They certinly have no regard for their fellow human beings.
  6. I feel your frustration it comes through loud and clear in you post. I wish I could help but I don't even know what to say to make it better for you. Is your Grey just a baby becuase if so mabie he will grow out of this. I have never heard of a screaming Grey before most are quite quiet I know mine is anyway.
  7. That was so cute I like the last part where he's bobbing his head as if to say yea I did it.

  9. Mabie she doesn't know what is availab;e to her. I agree totally that she should be doing all she can to help her son grow as much as he can. Autistic children can learn to be productive members of society with the proper learning and guidance. They are usually extreamly gifted in some way. His mom shouuld definatly be exploring everything that they have so that he can reach his highest potencial. If she not doing these things for her child then some one should talk to her about this so she knows that there are these programs available.
  10. I agree Talon this is something each person must decide for them selves. There are good breeders and bad breeders but what I classify as a bad breeder others may consider exceptable and who am I to say they're wrong. this is not something that should be debated on this forum every body has their own opinion as to what a good breeder entails.
  11. Fergie (Amazon) is extreamly hormonal right now. She constantly flying up on top of my kitchen cabnets and chewing the edges. I must climb up there 20 times a day to get her down and she just goes right back. I've tried time outs in her cage and everything. Tonight she was being really bad I would climb up to get her down and she would fly to the otherside of the kitchen. I just at my end here I don't know what I'm going todo with her. The only time she does this kind of thing is when she's hormonal she's looking for a nice dark secure place to build a nest. I understand what she's doing but she's making me absolutly crazy. If anybody has any sugestion on how to help her and at the same time help me that would be great. I even got to the point where I clipped her wings but she is such a strong flyer that it didn't even slow her down so now I'm really stumped.
  12. I'm so glad that you took your bird to the vet. You could have lost him easily to infection. He should be fine now and I'm so glad to hear he is eating and drinking normaly give him a extra hug for me and don't feel silly for feeling emotional about this I think I would be also our birds are like are children and we feel and love them unconditionaly and when something is hurting them it hurts us as well. Its good he's on the mend now and things can get back to normal.
  13. I understand how you feel mabiie she didn't want him to throw a tantrum I've heard he Autistic children can get quite aggresive when they get angry and will desroy your house or hurt oher people mabie she didnn' want to have something really bad happen Autistic children hold everything in so when the do le it all out people can get hurt. She probubly just wanted o make sure he stay cool and calm. Oh well It only one dinner I hope you don't have to have them for Christmas also. Mabie he can go to his grand parents house fr dinner on Christmas. Anyway I'm sorry your night was ruined family get togethers should be a time for fun and lots of love going around and its to bad when something happens to ruin it
  14. I often thought about moving to Texas when I was younger My grandmother lived there and so does my Aunt Uncle and cousins. But I love Canada especialy BC I'd never be happy anywhere else. You can't get better than paradise on earth and thats what BC is so this is home. You never know though might come to Texas for a holiday sometime. Like I said I got relatives in Texas so you never know.

  18. Hi Amber I tink that they just look that way because he has allot of dust around them try washing his face and see if that helps I know Tycos always look bigger when her face is covered with dander dust.
  19. I'm so glad you are being able to get the drops in without to much stress to Zahzu I'm sure she is starting to feel better already. with your care and love she will be right as rain in no time Keep us updated on her progress I'll be sending healing thought her way and saying a prayer for her as well as for you
  20. I had Tycos nails dremeled at the vet the other day her nails where like needle and she weighs 580gr so because she is so heavy and her nails where so sharpe they would go deep into my arm. Now is a dream to pick her up she also has 2 cement perches in her cage and both are beside he food dishes but they never seemed to do any good but now that her nails have been filed with the dremal tool the perches will help keep them that way. I did the same thing to my Amazon a year ago and her nails are still nice and smooth at the ends. You can make an appointment with your vet for that purpose and it only costs about 15.00 worth every penny I would say
  21. Really cute I love the first one of her laying on her back getting a tummy tickle just beautiful thanks.

I really love humming birds when I was a kid my mom had this bush with little red flowers on it and the hummingbirds woul flock to that bush by the hundreds they were so need to watch I would sit there for hours watching the putting their long little bills down into each and every blossom on that bush. It was just a wonderful sight to see.

  25. I don't envy you at all I'm glad its you and not me. I used to love haveing everyone for dinner when my kids where growng up now I don't do it anymore its their turn now. My one daughter just finshed cooking school. Its her turn to cook Chrismas dinner this year yum yum. We are haveing our Chrismas dinner on chrismas eve this year because she has another side of the family that she is going to for Chrismas day. I don't care I actually like that better then I can enjoy Christmas day at home with my youngest chid and my birds. without haveing todo anything. I'll just bring a plate of left overs home for our dinner on Chrismas day and then I won't even have to cook. I will have a great xmas. There isn't allot of money around this year for any of us so we are just buying for the kids this year. There are only 5 kids. mind you I'll probubly end up buying something small for everyone regardless just the way I am.
