  1. I have been thinking a little too much about natural disasters lately. I lock two of my birds in their cages at night, and I am starting to rethink this habit. I mean what if an earthquake or fire occurred and I couldn't get to them? Am I thinking too much or is there another way to deal with this situation?
  2. Rikki is a character! I certainly will ban Brutus from viewing this, in case he gets any ideas.
  3. Hoe it's a little, easily fixable thing!
  4. This is a great development! Thank you for sharing your stories with Shadow!
  5. I am so sorry this happened, but I am so glad you are on top of the situation. Good luck and keep us posted!
  6. Pancho hasn't hissed yet, but his day could come.
  7. How cute! Thank you for sharing.
  8. Birdhouse I hope you get him used to the camera because I would LOVE to see him doing Bing Crosby!
  9. I wouldn't have a fire in a fireplace. I think it is too chancy. ANYTHING that adds fumes or smoke to the air is deleterious to your bird's health. Just because it doesn't kill them or because they seem to tolerate it doesn't mean it is not doing harm. I mean they naturally live outside in the fresh air. Indoor air is already a compromise.
  10. Well done Misty! So great to see them enjoying themselves. Brutus dunks himself in his water dish, yet will not bathe in anything large enough to accommodate his size. I wish he did. I still have to shower him against his will. Although, lately he has been emulating his water-loving Amazon brother and spreading his wings. Good improvement.
  11. I also think it will be fine. It might even be comforting.
  12. Our vet advised us to take off Brutus' band for safety reasons. He is microchipped. The vet said he sees too many cases of broken legs as a result of leg bands.
  13. Brutus likes nothing better than to have his beak kissed or rubbed. I don't know why. I guess his beak is very sensitive. I comfort him when I gently rub his beak.
  14. So happy for you and Gracie! Pictures please!
  15. So sorry to hear about Bozo, but so happy you have new feathered children. I can relate, I had a quaker for 20 years, and it took me over a year to get to a place where i could even think of another bird. Such a special bird! Thankfully, we now have three!
  16. Bozo is so cute. Thanks for sharing his video. Gwen, you mention "you had" a cockatiel. Do you still have Bozo?
  17. My guy doesn't growl so I can't help you on that one. His pupils do get pinpoint small when he is overcome with excitement. Especially when I am about to touch him, his eyes reduce to tiny points. I always know that he wants me to touch him when his pupils get tiny.If you want to see pinning get an Amazon. Geez! Also, we may give you our experiences but it really comes down to the unique personality of your bird. Just be empathetic and pay attention to what he does and how he responds. This will be your best information on how to move forward.
  18. I guess you have to spell things now. Too funny!
  19. You know, someone does not have to be "right", that is not what this forum is about. Please respect everyones right to their opinion. You may not agree with it, but that is why this is a forum for discussion. Bird owners all have their own realities and life experiences. We all agree that we care about our animals, although we may go about it in different ways.
  20. If you don't have change in your bird's life they will not accept change very well. Introducing your bird to new things, people, places, and experiences is always a good idea. Resilience is a learned behavior. Neurotic birds are made not born.
