  1. Keep up the good job Morana! You are a conscientious Momma! Good for you!
  2. So sorry about the loss of your bird! I cannot imagine your grief. My answer to your question would be to not take the bird until you are back. He (or she) is so young this could be very upsetting to board him or her. Also think about these things- Do you feel a relationship with the bird? Does he react well to you? What makes you think he is the one? Just a few things to consider so you don't make a decision out of haste.
  3. I don't think birds play with toys naturally. You must teach them. Show your bird how fun it is to play!
  4. She sure sounds sweet! Nice development. Please keep us posted with more Tia news.
  5. Hey MarcusCag!

I miss your posts. Everything okay?

    Sharon

  6. Nancy, You sound like a good mommy!
  7. Besides the good points the others have brought up, I also think mutual respect is a good thing to foster. I think it also helps to let them know that you appreciate them and that they are a valued member of the family with lots of appropriate praise. It seems my CAG gets all puffed up and his chest expands when I tell him what a good boy he is, good flyer, good talker, etc. Try to work around bad situations and think of ways to make all interactions as positive as possible. Sorry I cannot address the cage dominance issue as my guy is not the least bit caring what I do in or around his cage. Remember birds (and most everybody) respond best to positive reinforcement. Figuring out a valued treat may motivate your bird to model a behavior you desire. Good luck and keep asking questions!
  8. Maybe distract him with treats or toys?
  9. I don't think there are any good African Grey Books. At least I've never seen one. Most African Grey books offer very general information, and they are old, never-updated publications. I like Barbara Heidenreich for her training stuff. You will learn far more on this website!
  10. Congratulations Joe! Way to go!
  11. The other day our new rehomed parrot, Pancho launched into song. He sang the first phase of, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" about ten times, clear as day. We didn't know he could sing! Plus, he knows a number of animal noises he will make on command, like chicken, cat or rooster. He is EXTREMELY food-motivated (I guess all amazons are), so will figure it out pretty quickly. Wild, huh?
  12. Wow! Really nice outdoor digs! Did you build it?
  13. Nice job! It did something similar, but it sure doesn't look as good!
  14. We have a large cage on wheels that we roll out the door. It is a cage though, and not an aviary.
  15. Pancho, the amazon, steps up no problem and goes right to bed. Jimpster, the quaker, puts himself to bed really early. Now Brutus is another story! He HATES to go to bed and will do almost anything to avoid being separated from us. The only solution is turning off ALL the lights, so he can't see, then I can pick him up and put him to bed.
  16. I am so glad that Buddy has such a good new home! Keep us posted.
  17. She certainly is the most beautiful model Audi has ever had!
  18. Happy birthday anniversary Josie! I hope many more follow. I wish you and your owner the best.

Do you take your birds outside in nice weather? My CAG will only almost tolerate (practically like) showers outside. He, too, tries to dunk himself into his too tiny water bowl and HATES being misted.
  20. We have a Pak-O-Bird carrier and components of it can definitely be destroyed by a dedicated bird. Also, the sides kind of cave in. I think the cage within a carrier might be better. Although, I bet it does not stop adventuresome greys from reaching through and gnawing on the backpack part.
  21. Inich that sounds perfect! I hope it works out for you.
