  1. Hope the hurricane is a non-event for you. it must be nerve-wracking waiting!
  2. Will you ever consider getting another grey?
  3. I read this book a couple of years ago. It is absolutely delightful and enjoyable reading! I highly recommend it.
  4. Jess, Husband or bird? Tough choice! I am not so sure the husband would win, or if he did, I would have some pretty insurmountable hard feelings about the situation.
  5. Good luck on the job hunt! Netty, you make your luck with hard work and attention to maintenance issues before they become problems.
  6. They usually poop first thing in the morning, so put him where you want him to poop and praise him when he makes his deposit in the right place. Also, name the behavior. Whether it's "poop" or "bombs away" or whatever, they are smart and will begin to put the meaning of the word(s) with the behavior. Positive reinforcement is the way to go (haha).
  7. Barbara, my condolences for your loss.
  8. While it is sweet to have your bird devoted to only you, it does the bird a disservice by shrinking his potential world. If Charlie were mine I would try to socialize him more with other people. Take him out to see the sights. Does your wife try to become friends with Charlie? Ideally, your bird will still favor you, but will be cordial with your wife and any visitors.
  9. I am so glad Sully is okay! Thanks for the yogurt tip.
  10. I cherish that my grey can fly. He enjoys it so much! I realize it is my responsibility to make sure the doors are closed, so he cannot fly away, and I willingly take that responsibility. I am not saying that accidents don't happen - they do, but I am willing to take that risk.
  11. Please let us know when you rescue this bird. I hope you do. It breaks my heart to read about this.
  12. I am so sorry you lost Murphy. I keep hoping and checking daily to see if he has come back to you. It is my profound wish that you find him. I wish it wasn't so painful. I feel for you with my heart and soul, knowing I would be the same way if I lost Brutus.
  13. So cute! How do you get them to eat greens? My guys view greens as things to throw out of the bowl. Do they all get along? My quaker has no concept of his size and readily gets into trouble with the larger birds because he believes all of my attention should be directed towards him. Brutus, my CAG, is gentle, but our new Amazon, Pancho, will defend himself. Jimmy got a slice on his beak because he refuses to believe he is anything but King Kong.

    My flock

Loved watching your videos of Jerry (such a cute name!) Hope you continue posting. What a cutie! He obviously loves you.
  15. I take my flighted guys outside in their cages. I just roll them out the door. Use extra locks if escape is an issue.
  16. JD, I would LOVE to see a video of that! Oh Yes please!
  17. Well put elvenking! Beautifully stated!
  18. Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Model ME81 (Formerly ME8) - by Miracle Exclusives it is on Amazon for around $65 http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Cooker-Model-Formerly/dp/B000I5UEQM I understand about the teflon, I had to discard some pretty nice stuff in my kitchen to eliminate the problem. The way I see it is if it can kill them it probably isn't too good for us either.
  19. Love the ceiling set up in the video. Sure would like something like that in my house.
  20. You know that shepherd's hook that goes up and curves down to hold a toy? He LOVES that! It is the toy du jour. He loves to land on it and do somersaults, and slide down with one foot. He also likes toys with small wooden pieces he can chew off. He had this woven taco thing that held streamers and stuff, he liked to take everything out and start shredding the shell. He likes a bucket with little foot toys because they all end up on the floor. We used to have a chandelier that didn't work, but it was a perfect toy holder because the cups, where the light bulbs would have been, held toys galore. Also taking the lids off of bottles is a preoccupation for him. He gets bored so easily that nothing is his favorite for long. For I time I strung uncooked pasta tubes on a leather strap and he would snap them off. He REALLY likes to destroy stuff! Elvenking where did you get the wooden beads? That sounds like something Brutus would enjoy also. I also put little things inside grape vine balls, so he can dig them out. Puzzle toys are only good until he figures them out. I really dislike buying him something that I am sure he will like, just to have him ignore it. I never could get him on the cargo net we bought. Maybe I will try it again.
  21. Thanks for sharing about your bird family. It's pretty likely your cockatiel adopted someone after you.
  22. Good luck Alice and keep us posted. I have a quaker parrot, a CAG, and a recently rehomed Panama Amazon. They are all out at the same time. I keep an eye on them, but for the most part they behave themselves. The CAG and the quaker squabble occasionally, well actually, the quaker picks fights, but my CAG is so mellow he doesn't fight back, or if he does, he is no match for the speed of the quaker. I have had the quaker and the CAG together for three years and there have been no injuries, just posturing, and minor squabbles. Quakers have no concept of their small size.
  23. So nice to see them enjoying themselves. Just a thought- Is it possible to move Louie's cage a couple of inches away from Ana Grey's cage. It looked as though Louie might be missing some toes pretty soon with the vigilant Ana Grey patrolling her domain.
