  1. I guess one thing to consider is WHY do you want to add another grey? Is it because your wife wants a bird that likes her better or some other reason. I have a quaker (he was first), a gray, and an amazon. Another thing to keep in mind is their relationships do not stay the same. My quaker has recently decided that Brutus, the grey, is boring, so he is fixated on poor Pancho. Jimpster, the quaker, is a policeman, he likes to control EVERYTHING! Brutus figured out how to deal with Jimpster, so he has moved on to fresh prospects. Maybe it is because Jimpster is now 5 years old and in the prime of his years, but he certainly is a noisy force to be reckoned with, and only just lately. geez. If i were considering another bird and I only had a grey, I would definitely get a DIFFERENT bird than a grey. Brutus is smarter, more clever than the rest, and he does want to be worshipped. I cannot imagine TWO like that! That would totally keep you on your toes!
  2. Do Cody's parents have a computer? My husband travels a lot, so he Skypes us on the road. Brutus is used to seeing his face on the computer. He flies over and gives him a "kiss." I think it helps so much! If you Skype Noodle he may not feel so abandoned. If not, can you make a video or tape recording that his parent's can play for him when you are gone? I hope you will be reunited as soon as possible.
  3. Be prepared to be amazed...
  4. I think mine does something similar. It seems he is relaxed yet thinking about something that is important to him, like me, because I am close.
  5. Can you roll her cage outside? Does she have a cage?
  6. What a goof ball. How old is you parrot?
  7. Sweet baby with her dark eyes!
  8. How about a small cage for outside trips. I know my guys LOVE being outside.
  9. Have you tried taking her out in the sunshine - just 15 minutes a day. It made all the difference with my guy. He quit barbering his feathers in a few days, and hasn't since. Plus, my vet advised that he may be low in calcium, and to give him a cooked chicken drumstick BONE every week. He and the other parrots relish this treat which is high in calcium and other nutrients. Good luck.

  11. Yeah Stewart and Murfchick! Good progress!
  12. That tummy squeak thing is so funny! Thanks for sharing more about Isaac. I understand about the cleaning thing. Brutus thinks I am a landing pad when I bend over cleaning, makes it difficult.
  13. Wow, I feel your pain. I adopted an Amazon who especially loves men, Hispanic men. I think he likes me though, (even though I am a woman),in a quiet sort of way because i am consistent and kind in my energy. I also bring great food. I feel your frustration and I hope it works out for you. Is he stick trained at all? That has been our saving grace, as Pancho steps up readily with a stick, so biting is not an option. Hey, while i am thinking about it, do you take Cooper outside for sunshine? Doing that on a regular basis has really mellowed my guys out. You won't believe it! Just 15 minutes, most days. I realize you are in Seattle, so whenever the sun comes out...
  14. It happens to me sometimes, but I reserve extra special treats for when I want to dislodge Brutus. He LOVES swiss cheese and I only break it out when he is glued to my hand. This has worked for me.
  15. Hey, I like that idea of a new companion that also likes to fly! I vote yes
  16. My guy used to be difficult to put to bed, but since we have had an Amazon who models perfect bedtime behavior, he is easy. He even asks me, "Wanna go to bed?" We have a little ritual where I turn off the lights in the kitchen area (where he is) and turn on a light in the foyer. He then flies to the foyer and hangs from a doorway while I scoop him up and put him to bed. He has never been a screamer, so I don't know how to address that issue. Maybe if you establish a routine he will get easier?
  17. He may not couch things in sweet words, but Dave is right on the money. He has tons of experience and is venerated in our group. You would be wise to put aside your ego and listen.
  18. I am so relieved that you got Noodle back so quickly! That just makes my day!
  19. Congratulations. How fun for you both!
  20. So sorry you lost Cody. You have a beautiful new baby and a beautiful flock! Hope to hear all about them soon.
  21. Good luck with the new additions, and keep us posted and how it is going. Good for you adopting two greys!
  22. I think it is a good idea to take your bird to the vet. Birds usually mask illness until it gets serious. i am not saying that is true in your case, but better safe than sorry. Please let us know how it goes. i don't know if my grey is hyper, but i have never seen him sleep during the day.
  23. Have you tried treats as an enticement? Also, his nails shouldn't hurt you, maybe you should get them trimmed. How old is Momo and how long have you had him?
