  1. This is our third night and we are having a blast! Last night we gave them squash and cucumber, they loved it! I am amazed at how sweet they are. Joe has let me scratch his head, Alex has let me touch his beak. Alex has been saying Hey Mel, Mel was his original owner. My name is Melanie, so when he first said it, it was kind of spooky, but last night he actually said Melanie! And today he said Hey Bill, my hubby is Bill. We have been saying our names when we speak to each other. Joe has been saying I'm Joe and where's Joe. Tomorrow there is a bird fair in our area so we are going to check them out for some new toys for all the birds and some new perches for Joe & Alex.
  2. Alex & Joe are home! They did really well on the ride home and transfered from the travel cages into their cages with no problem. They have eaten, had some peanuts, drank some water and now they are preening themselves. As I was getting things in order, Alex was saying work work. My Senegal was not at all impressed when I took her into the room. The Sun Conure made all her usual racket and then when on about her business. I think this just might work. I even got to pet a beak! I will post pictures soon.
  3. Hubby and I went to meet our 2 boys that we are going to adopt. I must admit I was a little intimidated, they are a bit bigger than our sun conure and senegal. LOL! But, my heart went out to them, they need some love and attention. The current owners have had them a month. Prior to that they were in a home for 13/14 years. The owner could no longer care for them. Current owner said when they got them, their cages had not been cleaned for a very long time. I was surprised to see that they are being fed cockatiel food! Also learned that they have not been out of thier cages for several years. Current owners have let them out and been able to scratch their heads, but not hold them. Both have playtops. We will probably get them next weekend. I see lots of fresh fruits and veggies in their future. They look pretty healthy, one is a plucker, but not too bad. We will be visiting our vet right away. This is going to be an exciting journey for all of us! Thinking about contacting original owners to see if they would like to visit once we are all settled. Don't know if that would be too traumatic for the boys.
  4. Thanks for the encouragement! I think my Sun will like the company, my senegal will have nothing to do with her. The greys had a sun in their original home so hopefully they will all get along. Things are going to get pretty interesting around here.
  5. Hi! I need some advice. I have a 17 y/o Senegal and a 12 y/o Sun Conure. A coworker was given 2 greys 13 & 14 y/o, she got them from someone who cleans house for a man that can no longer care for them (he also had a sun conure) she has decided that she doesn't have time for them and asked me if I wanted them. My hubby & I are going to meet them tomorrow. The poor things have been through a lot leaving thier home and now being uprooted again. I want to make things as easy as possible for them. They will be in the den with my sun conure, everyone being in their own cage. My senegal only likes me and my husband and she has her own room and tv. She is brought into the den occasionally to glare at the sun conure. I need tips on how to keep things as stress free as possible for the new guys.
