  1. I am so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine the pain you are feeling. So horrible for you.
  2. I have to admit i have never seen this behavior. My guy does yawn, but that is all he does. If you figure out how to post a video i would be curious to watch it.
  3. Consistency is the key. I always said, "Be Nice" when he applied a little too much pressure. If he bit harder still I tossed him into the air and said "be nice" again. He has since stopped experimenting and does not bite hard. Although, in the spring that sometimes changes. Wingy, that deep voice thing might be a good idea to try. I will try it. I never did "time outs" as time away from me was adequate punishment.
  4. Watching them fly is amazing. i never get tired of it. They become so proud of their ability to fly and land. i call them from room to room and they fly, sometimes 50 times in a row. They love it and I love it. Congratulations!
  5. Brutus, my grey, and Pancho the amazon, get along just fine. They don't interact, but Brutus says, "I love Pancho" and, "Brutus and Pancho." They hang out in cages right next to each other.
  6. You might try to train him to step up on a stick for those bitey times. It sure comes in handy with my amazon. How old is Rocky? Parrot Lady you have the same cast of characters as I, a Quaker, a Grey and an Amazon. Is your Amazon a Panama?
  7. Brutus, the grey uses my presence as an excuse to try mischievous activities, otherwise he chills for the most part. I think he is showing off when I am there. Wingy, aren't quakers a handful? 100 grams of attitude!
  8. So glad you figured out what was wrong with Bubba. I know he will feel better in a little while. Good luck with your full plate!
  9. TeriG, Congratulations on the 25 years-new CAG. I hope to hear all about him in the future.
  10. Make sure you buy organic corn otherwise it is probably GMO which is bad for health.
  11. "Mommy's a good bird" that is so cute and touching.
  12. Brutus likes me as his special person. I am so glad because i would have been sooo upset had he switched his affections to my husband. This is not to say they do not have a good relationship, they do. Larry had to actively work on it though. Brutus lets him pick him up and loves to listen to him talk. He learns most of everything he says from my husband and uses his voice. Brutus also gets very excited when Larry gets home. The ONLY thing Brutus doesn't do with Larry is snuggle. He even gives him kisses on occasion. Sometimes Brutus will sit on his leg while watching tv but petting is not allowed. Still, pretty sweet. Be patient I think you can develop a deeper relationship with your bird. You might also consider rehoming an adult bird that clearly shows his preference for you. Since Brutus prefers me, we rehomed an Amazon that prefers men.
  13. Also try broccoli stalks and fresh corn on the cob!
  14. So guess what?! Tonight I am petting Brutus' head when he looks at me and says very clearly, "You are excellent!"
  15. Jane 08 that picture of your grey makes me laugh so hard! I wouldn't call them fat just "big-boned." Ha Ha
  16. So we talk to him as we would talk to a child. We ask him questions, we ask his permission, and we always tell him what we are doing and where we are going. I think they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. For example we ask him, Do you want to come out?" and he says, "Ready to go" or "got to go to work." He figured those out from other things we said, and didn't need rote learning from us. He doesn't know the concept of "I" yet. I am not sure how we would teach him that. He will refer to himself as "Brutus" though.
  17. Brutus is cracking me up this morning. He doesn't practice new words in private or on the sly; he just vocalizes at full volume until he gets it right, or at least, right enough for his satisfaction. Today he is trying to say "you are excellent" and it is coming out "you are exsore" or "you are excess." He repeats variations of these until he finally says, "Merry Christmas" almost like a cuss word because he is frustrated. He will probably get it tomorrow. How does your Grey learn new words?
  18. Good job Timber's Mom and Timber too. Another step towards seeing you as the safe haven.
  19. My vet mentioned that he had seen many banded birds with broken legs from accidents while wearing the band. Because of the we chose to have the band removed. Our guy is microchipped instead. Totally a personal call though, there are two sides to this story, and it is not an easy decision.
  20. Good advice First Penguin. Especially the warm water idea.
