Don't use bells that you can get at Hobby Lobby. I'm not in the States so I've never been in one, but I've been in plenty of craft stores and the types of bells sold there are dangerous to birds. Birds, being the little engineers they are, can be quite single minded about trying to get the clapper out of the bell, or they can get the whole bell stuck on their beak. You need to use bells only that are designed for greys and other big birds, otherwise it can end in a vet visit. Sterling, ROTFLMAO!

Dorian prefers water straight out of the fridge, no ice cubes. It does seem to be a grey thing to prefer cold water. It's not universal, the odd bird here prefers tepid water, but most like it cold.

Nope, sorry, still can't see it.

Cages, Stands, Perches, Toys...Bringing Baby Home List
Acappella replied to Giannine's topic in The Nursery
Yes, start a thread in the nursery. -
Well, I'm back where I started. I can't do anything around the house without my back going out. Dorian has been such a good boy for me. When I nap on the couch during the day he just plays quietly on his playstand. When I got down to switch out the paper on the bottom of his cage yesterday he came down and started preening my hair. I really do wonder if they can see auras around people and if they change when we're not feeling well, because on days when I'm really feeling rough he's so quiet and gentle. So is the cat. I don't know what I'd do without their company these last couple of months.

No, I have an active Facebook membership and I couldn't see the video either.

Oh, p.s. I couldn't tell from the picture, is there a bell on the bottom of your boing? If there's a place to attach a bell to the bottom I recommend it. Seemed to make it more attractive to my Dorian.
-
Yeah, a lot of our greys act like they're going to melt when they get wet, but he'll forgive you, and those feathers coming in will feel soooo much better. The perch you got is what we call a boing. Very popular with the feathered set. My Dorian also acted like it was going to kill him when I first showed it to him. You're on the right track showing it to him from across the room. I slowly moved it closer to his cage, then attached it low on the outside of his cage, moving it up slowly. Then started it on the inside just laying on the bottom of the cage. Now it's hanging on the inside of his cage and he's happily perching on it. A boing is on most grey owners must have lists, so good on you for getting one.

Cages, Stands, Perches, Toys...Bringing Baby Home List

Cute baby! Congrats. -
Would you believe that mister is $15 in the States and more than $40 on the Canadian Amazon, plus shipping. Sometimes, not often, living north of the border sucks!

Thank you Inara. You're right about chronic illness and how isolating it can be. I already deal with this with my Fibromyalgia: my back has made it worse. I had my MRI today. The technician was really nice and helped me find a comfortable position so that I wasn't in pain. Now I just have to call my Dr. and get in to see her to get the results. Hopefully it finds something that can be helped with physio or massage or something. My back went out again today while I was in a pet store playing with a baby grey they just got in. Those black eyes just suckered me in lol.

It's deceptive. I'll be just around the house thinking it's all better but then I'll try to do something like gardening or walking a long distance and it goes out immediately. I tried to cut my lawn, which you wouldn't think of as a really physically taxing job, and it went right out. My neighbour finished it for me. I'm not in constant pain anymore like I was when I first started this thread, but I can't trust it. I feel very fragile.

Welcome to you, Peggy and Button to greyforums! I look forward to getting to know you. A good place to start around here is to read the stickys at the top of each forum room. They're the posts that always stay at the top of the lists of posts. There's plenty of good information there.

African Grey wanted Sale/Adoption in NY area

Has someone tried pm her? It sure seems like she's not aware of this thread. -
Just reading your story made my heart speed up. So glad she answered you when you called her and that you were able to scoop her right up and get her indoors. What about a chain and a combination lock?

Well I guess I pushed it too far. I had to pull weeds out of my garden before they got so deeply rooted I'd have to pull them from China! I took frequent breaks and did my stretches, but it still went out. Inara, I like the tennis ball trick. I actually have a massager that is shaped like a shepherds hook that allows me to apply pressure to the muscle knots in my back in an attempt to release them. It hurts like heck while I'm doing it, but it does work. I guess I'm just going to have to treat my back gingerly for the forseable future. I have an MRI scheduled for May 31st, so hoping to get some useful information from that. Thanks again for your support guys. There's something isolating and depressing about severe, unrelenting pain, and reaching out here helped me through it. Having this happen on top of my Fibromyalgia really has gotten me down at times and coming on Greyforums and seeing a new response on this thread has cheered me up.

I think the only violence on the horizon is the battle of Culloden. I have to admit to watching a little bit of the show through my fingers. Their prosthetics team is a little too good for me.

I've enjoyed season two so far, and I'm really looking forward to them heading back to Scotland, even though I'll miss the eye candy of the magnificent costumes. Cait's performance was amazing during the "Faith" episode. Apparently they'd originally planned for more voice overs, but decided they didn't need them because her acting was so good. As for it being a little bloody and graphic, there's no doubt that Diana likes to put her characters through hell over and over again, and it can be hard to watch at times, but it makes her characters deep and three dimensional. IMHO

Dorian was determined to get onto my shoulder when he first began to perch on my hand. It took redirecting him many many times, but now he's content on my wrist. He's too easily startled for me to trust him on my shoulder where I can't see him to read his body language.

I've heard really good things about Vikings. I wish I'd watched it from the beginning. Outlander is the only show that I am watching right now, aside from General Hospital, which I've watched for decades. The episode last night, "Faith", was my favourite one since the wedding. Cait is proving herself to be an incredible actress and she really carried the show. I didn't out and out cry, but I definitely teared up a couple of times.

Season 2 is great so far. Not looking forward to tonight's episode - everyone in the States who have already seen it are saying to have a box of tissues close by.

Thanks for asking. So far so good. I had a little twinge when I was doing laundry and I had to bend down and reach into the machine to pull my clothes out, and when I got the central vac out to do a good cleaning, so I know it's not all better, but I haven't had to use the cane this week at all!

I understand why your. Mind would go right to the mug incident, but couldn't the cage being moved around and the work going on in the house also explain a change in behaviour?
