  1. I just don't know what to think. I guess I will just bring home my baby and love him/her the best I know how. My breeder is checking into this issue too, so we'll see what she finds out.
  2. Hooray for cheaper!!! I wouldn't of thought using baby toys, but it totally makes sense. They are usually very brightly colored as well, which is nice. Good idea guys!
  3. Hi! You and I have a similair background in animals. It's good to have you here.
  4. That's what we did with our black lab/retriever mix. She always came and slept in my lap. Our breeder lives 1 1/2 hours away, so i don't know how many times I will get to visit, but I hope that the baby chooses me.
  5. That is so interesting, spock. I am hoping that my husband will warm up the bird enough for the bird to bond with him. He is just not as much of an animal person, but I know he will want to be involved with this one.
  6. Thank you danmcq and lovemygreys. You have both been so helpful. I hope that lots of owners with older greys that they've had since babies will post their experiences.
  7. I am very greatful to have a husband who understands my passion and is slowly getting very intrigued himself. My sister and father also share my love for birds, although not necessarily my obsession with Greys. As for my friends, they don't think I'm crazy, but they don't quite understand this unique bird. I am so thankful to have found a place where my obsession is normal.
  8. Thanks everyone, that is very reassuring. We are getting licensed for foster care, so there will be children coming and going to various periods of time. Will my grey get upset when they leave? How can I limit their trauma?
  9. I've learned so much from reading this post. Aloe Juice and Palm oil are added to my shopping list. Thanks everyone.
  10. If I get a female, will she want to bond with my husband as her mate?
  11. Hi Binkiesmom. My name is Hannah, and I'm 23. It's nice to see someone my age so passionate about helping birds.
  12. So it is your opinion that as long as they are socialized appropriately that there is a good chance of avoiding detachment when they hit puberty? I hope so. I can't imagine being rejected after 4 years of putting my life into that baby.
  13. Hey all. I am hoping to get a baby girl from my breeder, but of coarse there are no guarantees that one of the chicks will be female. My question is, I've heard that male parrots instinctively detach from their primary caregiver when they hit sexual maturity because in the wild they would go to a new flock to prevent inbreeding. If I get a male, am I doomed to have him detach from me at sexual maturity? Or are there things I can do? And do girls detach at all? thank you all so much for your help. Hannah ps. I just found out that the first batch of eggs were clear. They probably won't have more eggs for 2-3 weeks.
  14. Rockelle, my 23 year old CAG that I fostered, was so much like a 3 year old it cracked me up. She would call me over if I wasn't paying attention to her and look and me and say "Hi". She loved to play jokes on my step mom. Her favorite being imitating the microwave beep. I am really hoping that my two passions, animals and children, blend together well.
  15. Hahaha...that's hilarious. My degree and experience is in early childhood development, and I can definitely relate. 2 and 3 year olds are very proud of themselves when they poop in the potty, why shouldn't a CAG be proud when it poops in the right place?
  16. We don't have a petsmart or petco but our local store will usually order anything that we need and it comes in really quickly. Is there a website I could order it from?
  17. I've been reading everything I can get my hands, or eyes on. There is a lot of info out there. I have found that this forum is a very good place to weed things out.
  18. I like looking for names by meaning at sites like www.babynames.com . The one I chose for my baby girl is Lolovivi, which is Swahili for "love lives on for ever" she will be called Lolo for short.
  19. Thank you Beccy, the second short article was actually just as helpful as the full page one. Less is more sometimes, eh? (Haha, my first use of "eh" in a post). I am excited to get this process started from day 1 of having Lolo home.
  20. Wow! 18 weeks. I loved hand feeding the baby cockatiels that I have helped raise. I even got to hand raise a batch of mocking birds...Rockelle didn't like that much... she kept telling me "Hannah, Come here now." Where can you buy quality hand feeding formula?
  21. You are so helpful today, BMustee. Thank you very much.
  22. Hello everyone. I am very interested in tips/suggestions about how to successfully potty train a young CAG. We have recently moved into a new house, and really want to keep the new carpet as clean as we can. I'm not anal retentive (that's kind of punny in this situation, ha)http://www.greyforums.net/components/com_joomlaboard/emoticons/w00t.png :woohoo:I've had birds my whole life, but if it's possible I'd like to know how. If anyone has any website link etc...that could give me tips, please let me know. Hannah
  23. Hey. Maunalou's(sp?) topic got me wondering, when should a baby CAG be fully weaned? I have hand raised many cockatiels, who wean much quicker, but got my CAG, Rockelle, as a foster bird when she was 23 yrs. old. My baby should be born in a few weeks, if all goes well. When should I be expecting to take her home? I could ask my breeder, I know, but you guys are so knowledgeable too.
  24. I definitely will post a picture. I am so excited to see it. She (the young carpenter) said she found the perfect limb to use as the main piece, with two main branches coming off of it. She is making it look as natural as possible. Again, what foraging toys do your Greys enjoy most?
