1. Mine has been doing the same thing...I really think that mouse pads are made of parrot smack or something. Mine will fight beak and claw to get to that pad to get his junky fix!
2. There is not such thing as a stupid question! I would much rather answer a question that seems to be a no brainer (not that yours is) than read a very sad story that could have had a different ending if someone would have just asked a simple question. I live in Southwest Florida and it get really hot here. The heat index gets well over 100 degrees and I don't have a problem taking him outside in that. I normally have a glass of ice tea with me and he will go to the cup and get a cold drink when he starts getting hot. As for the cold I would get him a Happy Hut like Talon said and cover the cage at night with a warm blanket...thats what I would do with my sun conure in the winter when it would get cold and drafty in the house. This will be my Greys first winter and I plan to do the same thing with him.
3. Well, knowing greys that really isn't an option.:laugh: I read a story about how when Alex would get questions wrong it was more like he ment to get it wrong JUST to be difficult. For example they would show him a Blue card and ask what color is was. He would say "Green, Red, Yellow, Purple, Orenge...", every color but Blue.
4. I love the books from the Vampire Chronicles by Ann Rice. She is a little too detailed sometimes so that kind of keeps you from using your imagination to picture things but at least you know exactly what she was thinking of when she wrote it. That’s what ruined the movie Queen of the Damned for me because Stewart Townsley looks nothing like Lestate is described...Tom Cruse nailed the look in Interview with the Vampire. My favorite book of all time is Flowers for Algernon. I read that book every time we get a hurricane here in Florida and the power is knock out for two weeks. If any of you never read it before I highly recommend that you do.

Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/09/13 19:41
5. I would think that Dr. Pepperburg loves the birds to much for that.

Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/09/13 19:26
6. Sweet THANKS! I would like to believe that he had a good life in the lab. I've seen the footage of how chimps where treated in labs when they were being used for product and medical testing and it made me sick...I refuse to imagine Alex in that kind of environment.
7. I thought everyone would agree with me.
8. I agree with what Beccy and Makena said. Alex was not treated like a lab rat. He didn't even stay at the lab all the time. I believe he would go home with lab staff over the weekend. He and the other Greys would/will get whatever they want and would have the staff running all over to get what the birds asked for...yes, asked for. I'm pretty sure Einstien is owned by a zoo, and yes the clip of him on Utube is an Animal Planet show. Every bird should get training...should it be speech or tricks...it keeps them happy and healthy.
9. {Feel-good-0002006E} Yeah, you better zip it! lol If it's just a day or two that Olly gives you a tude then you got nothing to worry about. Mine was being a real buttmunch yesterday evening...has WAS being a perfect angel earlier. I think he got huffy because I wouldn't give him any cake after he helped me make it.(dad's birthday)
10. LOL...I know right! {Characters-00020078} I actually was thinking about that when they were takling about the recalls because birds are so susceptible to metal poisoning.
11. Hmmmm, well...thats kind of what happened to me. One day he just snapped and didn't want anyone near him other than me. How old is he and how hard does he bite? I got my grey to get along with my b/f Paul by having him ignore all bad behavior and just let him bite...he saw that nothing worked to get Paul to leave him alone and now they are almost best buds. Mine does not bite hard yet so if Olly draws blood then it would be a bit harder to just ignore it. If it's too much to ignore then I would start with a perch. Let him bite the heck out of the stick and that way your fingers stay on and he's getting the training he needs. Also, did anything change in the past weeks? I've heard of a Grey start acting out almost a month after something like new furniture was put in the room with him.

Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/09/12 20:04

My Grey

Mine has been doing my laugh sense he was at his weaning age. He now has a pretty large vocab of mimic sounds. He's about 5 months 2 weeks and he has started learning the Andy Griffith song. From what you are saying I bet he will be like mine and try to make all the sounds he can as soon as he can. Congrats on the baby boy!
13. My sun conure would crouch down with his wings out and vibrate them when he wanted to be picked up or let out of his cage. As for the tongue thing my grey will do that with his too. I think it may just be something he likes to. Does the grunting sound kind of like a wheeze? Mine does that kind of a noise when he's really having a good time playing with me.
14. well...make sure it's not from China! {Feel-good-0002006E}
15. Yes, I have seen almost if not all of the videos posted of Ruby and her owner and I do know that she says much more then just vulgar words. However, you did not start this post with one of the videos of her just saying "Bonjour" you posted one of the X-rated videos and you said "all this bird does is curse in English curse words"...you did not say "check out the adorable things this bird says in-between the cursing." And like Dan said, her vulgarity spoiled the pot.
16. Well, I had a Sun Conure before and he never seemed to go into a full-blown molt...it was more of the year round kind. When I was still training him I kept his wings clipped and I had to clip the all the time because they grew in so fast. I have had my Grey for about 4 months and I have yet to see one feather other than down come off of him...so I'm thinking that sense your having the same experience that I had that Greys just don't molt as fast as Suns do. I don't think baths would do it...I'd try more fresh food or some supplements for plumage. As for the aggression I too have had an issue with that. My grey screams at anyone that gets near him. He did this with my boyfriend so I had him do a “dominance” technique with him. I told him if he bites, let him do it, ignore the screams, move slowly and tell the bird in a soothing voice that he isn’t going to hurt him and it’s going to be ok. By doing this, the bird realizes that the temper tantrum won’t work with this human and that there isn’t any threat to him so there not much else he can do except be a good bird. It’s very important to reward the bird when he behaves and ignore the bad behavior. If the bird screams and bites and whoever is handling the bird pulls away the bird now learns that and continues the behavior. Hope this helps you.
17. With the nails I would get concrete perches like Judygram said. I bought one for my Grey even before he could perch...without trimming or filing they are great pets for diabetics’ cause their claws are like little needles. My fingers were getting pricked every time I picked him up as a baby. I don't breed Parrots myself, just finches, but the breeders I know all house the birds in pairs in separate cages...that may be your problem.
18. Oh yeah...a few of the words that Ruby says in some of the clips are things I couldn't say if you paid me, like the four letter "C" words...I can't believe that guy kisses his mother with that mouth!
19. Yeah...I hope this helps any new owners that might want to intentionally sleep with their birds. One other good thing came out of this though…we all now know why all Pirates have eye patches! {Feel-good-00020069}
20. For sure...Just what Dan and I thought up in 10 minutes to teach a bird would be so much funnier than a bird that talks like Ruby! I can't remember who it was but someone here tought their bird to say "ABCD...I". I would be laughing at that much harder than a four letter word. Plus this kind of stuff shows creativity not ignorance. B)
21. If I get him to talk like that I would have to take him on ride alongs with me..LOL! :laugh: I'd let him talk into the megaphone! Oh oh oh oh...The Miranda Rights!!!:woohoo: That would be something having a bird tell you that you have the Right to remain silent!!!! LOL
22. Hahah…Yeah, I should teach him some of that too. I'm going to be going to school soon to become a Sheriff officer so I should teach him to say "SPREAD EM' PUNK", "License and registration please”, and “Do you know how fast you were going?” Thanks for the Karma!!!
23. I'm waiting for mine to talk too...no words yet. I promised my brother (he's in the ARMY and is overseas in Korea) that I would teach the Grey to say AFLACK! Thats going to be soooo funny if he does it.
