  1. Yeah...I'll have to get a video of him doing it on my phone and upload it. The head shaking no is the most Adorable thing I have seen!!! I got to get it on here for you all to see.
  2. That is a Gorgeous shot of Mango…the white flowers with the yellow and orange sun is a beautiful combination. What is that, a cherry blossom tree?
  3. yep...just keep letting him know that when you want him to do something you mean business and don't let him get away with anything.

I agree as well. You many just be stuck as #2. I would have loved to take both babies from the breeder home with me but I didn't want to be in the predicament you are now in. Unless I start breeding CAG's I don't think I will have 2 at the same time. I do hope to get a hyacinth macaw one day though. Have you thought of maybe putting them in separate rooms? I don't know if this is a good idea or not but that would be something I would try.

  6. Keep me posted, and I hope I did start a training frenzy as Dan put it. I have found that trick training helps reinforce bonds and curb behavior problems, as well as give birds a higher self-esteem. The Sun that I had could care less if his face was blown on, so I figured out a new trick for him. He loved to tap his beak on perches, stands, tables, anything he could put his beak on. Every time I started tapping my hand he could not resist tapping his beak, so I went through with treats and praise till he got to the point that if I tapped my finger in the air he would bob his head like he was tapping air.<br><br>Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/10/04 16:43
  7. lol...if you teach him to use a dustpan you would have to post it on Utube! LoL, good mental image. {Feel-good-0002006E} I know that pretty much all young greys go through the "chicken scratch" phase, mine had his come and go already. It says on your profile that your grey is over a year old, so I'm not sure if maybe yours just didn't grow out of it or not. From some articles I have read greys do forage on the ground for food, so this could just be an instinctual thing. I would follow Judy's advice, ignoring it is the only way...everything else is attention.
  8. Thanks you guys! I'm one proud mommy, and I'll have a smile on my face for the rest of the day from your comments. I'll be handing out Karmas! Siobhan, it is a really simple trick as long as your bird doesn't like getting it's face blown on. All you do is put the favorite bite sized treat in-between your middle finger and thumb and stick your index finger up, like your making a d with your fingers. Get the bird to look at your hand with the treat and start shaking your finger side-to-side as the queue and at the same time blow into the birds face. Most birds don't like this and will shake their heads. Once the bird shakes his head you bridge with praise and the treat. Keep doing this step and slowly quit blowing in the face...it should realize it is being rewarded for shaking its head and not need the blow to get him to do it. Then just keep drilling and only give treats one out of two or three times and only give praise the others to get the bird to do it without the treat. It’s very simple as long as they don’t like the blowing. I’m not sure if bad breath will made a difference if they like it or not…LOL.
  9. You get your fudge cake with hot chocolate syrup on it and you gobble it down...but you then go into a diabetic coma. The high suger treat was just too much for your system to take! I with I got more sleep every night
  10. Ok, so the other day he turned 6 months so I decided that he was old enough to trick train. I started a couple days ago with teaching him to wave hi, and he learned it in like, 10 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised because this trick took about 2 days for my Sun Conure to learn. Sense he got it down so quick and didn’t need a treat in my hand to get him to do it, last night I figured I would go ahead and see if he was ready for another trick. I went ahead and started teaching him to shake his head no. I could not believe it when he picked it up in only 5 minutes!!!!! I also was shocked that after 15-20 minutes of training and figuring he was done for the night he got upset and wanted to keep going…he got all puffed up and head butting me…this is his “I wanna” dance as I call it. I gave in and kept training him for about 10 more minutes. I can’t believe how excited I am that he enjoys learning so much and his attention span is long enough to want to keep going well after I’m done…that’s more of a large breed Cockatoo thing. Has anyone else had one of these moments…where you think your grey is the smartest bird in the world for something they did/learned? I laugh at myself because I’m like one of those moms that think their kid is the next Einstein even though he’s eating glue or something in the corner…LOL {Characters-0002005C}
  11. Loosing a pet is just like loosing family…and sometimes even harder. I have lost a couple of dogs in my family. The first was a Golden Retriever named Sunny, he was an old dog and we had to have him put down because his spine had fused to the spinal cord so he could no longer walk and was in a lot of pain. I was 5 at the time but I still remember my dad getting him into the truck for one last ride before going to the vet and I saw him cry. The only other time I saw my dad cry was after we lost the Collie and Golden retriever mix named Buddy that we got shortly after Sunny past. He too had to be put down about 4 years ago, he had cancer in every organ and almost every bone because the vet misdiagnosed the lumps that kept popping up as just “fatty” deposits…he never screened them for cancer. He had gone into total system shut down and would have died within hours if we didn't put him to sleep. Anyways, I did a painting for my dad that Christmas of Buddy and when he saw it he had a few tears roll down his face. I witnessed the loss of both his parents through the years and he never got emotional about them passing, but loosing his dogs was just too much for him to hold in.<br><br>Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/10/03 20:45
  12. wow...30 years old! I think we have found our winner!
  13. ohh, that horrible beccy. Where do you live? Sounds like the USA's ghettos, and if that right I don't blame you. At least he still gets to ride in the car. B)
  14. ok, ok, you get your female models just wearing hats in the hot tub, but it turns out they are The Red Hat Society models and they are all old as dirt and overweight. LOL...you left yourself open on that one Joe...you didn't say HOT female models...   I wish I had Joe's hot male models...<br><br>Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/10/03 20:03

  16. Mine is 6 months and I have only heard one Hello out of him, but he does use the sound of my voice to garble and mumble. He will make the same patterns of a sentance in this "tone language" of his and I can tell it's stuff like "i love you", "what are you doning?" and "Get out of that!" but it is not near being clear speech. It's their way of learning and you will hear it get better and better as time goes on.
  17. The flash is fine. I have taken pics of my grey with a disposable camera and he doesn't act like he is blinded or anything.
  18. I found a website when I was looking for a Grey that lists breeders by state, and there are a few in AR...here is a link. http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/brad1.htm Hope this can help.
  19. I was hesitant about taking him out because of his behavior at home sometimes, but I am sooooo glad I finally did it and brought him to town with me. Everyone that saw him commented on how pretty he was (thanks to a good aloe bath) and that they could not believe that he was wearing a harness. I think that is what most people were interested in. The picture I got was him sitting really high to see out the windshield all puffed up. I think one of his favorite things about the car is sitting in front of the A/C vent...he gets a kick out in the cool wind blowing on him.
  20. You get into your hot tub, but the three hot models that join you end up to be three hot MALE models... I wish I could get cosmetic surgery.
  21. Well Joe, I do not disagree with you. They are your birds and you know them better than anyone else. I myself take my grey outside in the yard without a harness and let him do his thing...although he is not a fan of sitting in the small tree by the door and always ends up jumping right back onto me or to the front door. On Sunday I took him out on his first real outing and he went into 7-11, Pet Kingdom, and Petsmart. He was a big hit and was the perfect gentleman...no screeching at people or anything. I did have him on a harness for that because and I got an adorable picture of him wearing it and loving the car ride home. He was watching out the windshield and flapping his winds while laughing...I think he was pretending he was flying 60 mph.
  22. It took a few tries but I found that my picky eater likes the plain Exact pellets for parrots...mine does not like the fruit pellets. As for the veggies and such, have you tried eating them in front of him because it seems that you Grey wants pizza and such and I'm sure he sees people eating that. Thats how I got mine to eat the good stuff...make him think that it's what you want. Anything that goes in my mouth the Grey can't wait to get into his.
  23. So cute...I need to get pics of mine after his aloe bath.
  24. The tread is "When can we handle her" It's towards the bottom
