I'm the same way Joe. When I start a topic I'm posting on it all the time. I hate it when people start a topic asking a question and then never return to it...you feel like you answered their question for nothing because you don't even know if they even read it.

I know I listed it in the last book posting but my favorite of all time is Flowers for Algernon...it's about a mentally retarded man that gets a surgery done to increase his IQ. It's such a good book I tell everyone to read it. I pick it up every time there is a hurricane . Another book that I love is Where the Red Fern Grows. It’s on the same line as Old Yeller. Also, The Power of One is a great story about a European kid growing up in South Africa during World War II.

Hello! A Couple of brief questions from a Newbie
BMustee replied to Cyard's topic in The GREY Lounge
Well, I have 3 cats and two dogs in my house and all it took was a few nips to the tails to let them all know that the grey is the boss. I've yet to ever have a problem with cat on bird...I've only have Bird on cat problems. As for books, I read every one I could get my hands on and they are really all the same. I think that the books on Parrots in general are better. For info on Greys this site had answered more questions I have had more than any book. Feel free to ask any questions you have and I guarantee you will get the best answers out there. -
Darn, I can't corrupt that dream ether...cause I know my b/f wouldn't go with me so I'll need a travel buddy! I wish I could get my brother to dump his g/f

You go to China, but soon realize it's a giant sausage party due to the massive gender imbalance cause by the strict birth control policies. I believe this would be your personal hell Joe. I wish I could go to the Amazon and see wild parrots (even though I have a ton of them where I live.)

You get to see Makena get pinched, but then you get pinched as well. I wish I could go see the Red Square in Russia Joe - How sweet! Karma for you!<br><br>Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/10/16 16:36

LOL...I have really long thick hair too and It's like a sheepdog on my neck if I wear it down, I wonder if my grey would freak! I have a bad habit of drinking out of the carton (well, gallon jug really). So the grey sits on my shoulder when I'm drinking my tea from the jug and he decided he wants to be like mommy, so now we both stand in front of the refrig drinking out of the carton.

I have the Feather Tether and I love it. I have my grey 90% potty trained so I really don't need a diaper for him. I got him the medium sized at first because on the chart it says that is what a Congo would fit in, but it was way to big. I use the small one I got for the Sun Conure I used to have and just set it to as big as it would get and it fits like a glove.

I can't even imagine what you are going through. Like everyone else has said, Mikka pasted knowing how much he was loved, and we all have you and Mikka in our hearts.

In my house we have 3 female cats (Angel-18, Smitty-9, and Kitty-2), 2 pugs (Uggy and Tiny), and all my birds. Angel and Kitty are my cats; Smitty and the dogs are my dads. The CAG will "nip" at tails that get too close, and the cats learned that real quickly. The dogs Uggy didn’t know that if a tail is in beak range it's up for grabs. So the other night Uggy jumped up on my bed with the bird and me. She was wagging her little tail and it got the attention of the grey, so he went over and nipped it...not hard because the cats find it just annoying and will walk away after a few seconds, but the dog jumped and ran like a bat out of hell. The grey must have been proud of him self because he started doing the evil laugh.

Thats so cute that they giggle and chat together. It's so nice to hear that they have been together for 10 years...and now they have a wonderful home with you. Be sure to keep us posted on them eggs!

I give Karma when someone makes me laugh, gives good advise...the usual. I'll take Karma from someone if they post dangerous advise for someone to follow or if they are a real butthead.

Mine plays the same way with his toys...he screams and then attacks! If the screaming your grey is doing is just directed at the toys and is not screaming for your attention then you have nothing to worry about, it seems there are a lot of greys that act like the toys are wearing ski masks! If you think about it it's a good thing that he is doing this kind of thing...it means he is able to play by himself and does not need you for all his entertainment.
-
I have a CAG, a set of Owl Finches, and a set of Star Finches...all in my bedroom! To tell you the truth my Grey loves the finches. He will scream at them from his "soap box" and play Godzilla on their cage . The finches really don't mind him ether...they just continue on with their business like he isn't even there. I like having them in the same room because the noise they make all day...like you were saying the loudest finches get is when the males sing, but it's enough that he isn't in a dead quite room all day. I catch him sitting on his cage and watching them go from perch to perch in their flight cage, so it's also like Bird TV for the grey.

ohhh man! I wish I had a super blowout sale in my town!!! I need new toys; I've just had to Frankenstein a couple of his toys to make a good one. I've been surfing ebay for some good deals.
-
Yeah, I would not risk painting a cage and putting my grey in it. I would go ahead and get a new cage with powder coating on it. MrSpock pointed me to an ebay store with a great cage with an even better price.

Mine said "Hello" once about a month ago...ONCE! I was doing dishes and I had read someone on the forum gushing about how their bird started talking before it was even weaned, so I was like "thats it, your going to talk...your getting showed up!" and sure enough he said his one little word:woohoo: . I hear him all the time using my voice and doing the vocal pattern of me saying, "What are you doing" and "Hey baby" but no clear speech. Thats one thing I don't get, he's so smart with other things like learning tricks...I'm just always wondering why he isn't talking.
-
From the look of MrSpocks cages (his have playtops, mine is a dometop) I might not have to get him another cage down the road after all because they seemed to be more than adiquit size. I might get one with the playtop to put on the back porch for him to get outside time.<br><br>Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/10/12 17:36

Yeah, the one I just got was off Ebay and is only $198USD including the shipping cost.

LOL...OMG:woohoo: what an ordeal! {Feel-good-0002006E} My grey hasn't been in the "jacket" situation yet...heck, it's still over 90 during the day here. My Sun Conure LOVED to go out when it was cold. I always wear jackets with hoods, so Otto would sit on my shoulder when the hood was up over my head. It looked like Kenny from South Park, but with an extra little set of parrot eyes looking out of the hood at you too.

There are a lot of sites like this in the US, below I listed two that I like. I love the Avian Biotech site...you can find any kind of bird on there. I list my baby finches on that site. http://www.avianbiotech.com/Breeders/Birds.asp http://www.birdsnways.com/index.htm

Mine has a thing for mail...I let him have all the junk I get with the understanding that the car payment bill it not touched. When he reaches for that one he gets a "AEHHHHH" with the dirty eye...he knows he picked up the wrong one. My grey LOVES the outside as well and because we are in FL we don't have the bitter cold like you do up north. It'll get cold (30f at night) in late Nov into Dec, and for people that live in FL year round thats COLD(we're light weights) so as soon as it's cold for me I won't take him out unless he is in my jacket.
