1. I had the baby out with me trick or treating. He was such a good boy. He used to be scared of everyone but me but he only growled at one person...the first kid to come up. He must have got used to the costumes after that, and he also let a couple kids pet him on the back. He ate some pumpkin seeds out of the Jack-O Lantern, so that kept him out of the candy bowl.
2. That is awesome Joe!!!!! I wonder if my grey would like one of those…he’s not a water lover.
3. The vet should. The one I went to did a visual check of the usual body parts...eyes, vent, stuff like that...and did a fecal exam. Man, you've got to see a lot. I mainly want to see my family home lands...Russian, Hungry, and Turkey. I really want to go to South Africa and go on a Safari. I would imagine that the US would be one of the best places to live...so many people flock over here from so many countries that we must have something better than them. Although I'm sure the UK is very nice...had to cover my butt with all the UK members there
4. hahaha...yeah Judy, me too. I think Aloe is the only good thing for a grey in them. I would think they would be safe to use around your bird, just let the area you wiped dry before the bird gets into it. B)
5. I did a regular vet check by a non avian vet before for the same reason. B) I guess she went to some really small town there...it was like the size of maybe two USA malls in area. She was saying that everyone walks everywhere and eat Chocolate cake every day…bastards!
6. You are soooo lucky. I've never been out of the country...heck, I've only been out of the state twice. My sister got to go to Germany to meet her husbands family a few years ago.
7. Yeah...cancel the normal vet. Avian vets are the only ones that should do check-ups, normal vets don't really know what they are doing. Now if there was an emergency and you couldn't get him to an avian vet soon enough then take him to a normal vet to start some kind of treatment till you could get to the avian vet.
8. As for the flying, all you can really do is pick him up and put him back where he was. Over time he will learn that he isn't allowed to jump off the cage.
9. That's cool, how often do you get to go over there? I was born and raised here in Fort Myers FL and plan on one day going to Moscow for vacation.
10. Duhhh....it would help if I read everything on your post. It looks like you live in FL, did you come from Russia?
11. No your bird will be fine, it will pick up on the Russian. I have heard of a couple bilingual birds. Do you live in Russia? I love everything Russian; my mother’s side of the family is all from there…they left while Stalin was in power. I’ve been trying to learn Russian myself but it’s pretty hard because there is no one that speaks or teaches it anywhere around me.
12. {Feel-good-0002006E} That sounds like a good plan to me.
13. Yeah, letting them watch you eat the stuff you want them to eat is the best way to get them to eat...my grey was the same way. Loviechick, you are right about the peanut, it is a legume. I know there can get harmful stuff in the shells so the best way to give them is already shelled human grade...unsalted.
14. I would do whatever the vet says...they know what they are doing. Make sure your grey is on a good pellot diet with veggies and fruits everyday. I don't give my grey much seed, just a little as a garnishment on the pellots. What are you feeding him now?
15. If Hannah is not able to buy it I would be interested. I have the first video from them but would like to get the others.
16. The way I feel about dogs is that if you have a show quality dog then you have a dog that is...I guess you could say...qualified to breed. Like Tari said you can't show fixed dogs ether. If someone has a mutt then it should be fixed. The puppies resulting from the breeding wouldn't be furthering any breed and adding to the over population. There is the personal preference of not fixing and as long as you take all the precautions then it's your right. I personally will fix any dog or cat I own because it takes the risks of certain cancers out of the equation and I don't plan on ever showing them. Plus a female in heat ruins your furniture and I don't like getting humped by the males.
17. Read as much as you can and ask a lot of questions. The last thing you want to do is go out and get a Grey and find out it's not the type of bird you want...do research on other parrots as well to see what others are like. I would site for hours googling African Grey and reading everything that came up. I will still do that and I'll read on other birds because down the line I plan on getting another parrot...I'm thinking Buffon's Macaw for me.
18. This will be my greys first halloween and I plan on having him with me when I give out candy. If he gets stressed I will put him in his cage with some classical music on. I sit on the porch giving out candy so I don't have to worry about the doorbell...although by the end of the night your grey may be ringing just like the bell.
19. When my grey bites it doesn't hurt...he ether is just giving the "I'm warning you" nips or just doesn't know that he can bite harder.   I would keep the kids away for sure because an adult can stay cool during a bite but kids will go Ape...and that could cause harder bites and more of them in the future...and I have heard of a few ER trips from bites before, so you don't want him getting "trained" to bite.

Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/10/31 15:51
20. {Holidays-000200A6} LOL...good one Dan
21. Yeah, I'm always looking for new things for my grey to do.
22. Yeah, I only use the Aloe Juice on my CAG for baths...it will even take away that "dirty bird" smell. Also, my baby "bobbed" on one of his toys thinking it would feed him and hurt the skin in the corner of him mouth/beak. I took a peace of aloe (I grow it in pots at the house) and rubbed it on the sore...it really helped. You can also let them eat fresh aloe too. I wouldn't go near the gels you buy in the store because they have a lot of added products to it, but the juice and fresh cuts are great for them.
23. No problem. Anytime you got questions we are always more than happy to help. The breeder that I would go to with my questions would always say "I would rather hear a thousand "dumb" questions than one sad story"...although there is no such thing as a dumb question. BTW, you a Sparta fan?
24. {Feel-good-0002006E} Yeah, I never thought about that before.
