I agree Hannah congrats! We are trying for our 3rd child and I do think it's important you treat Gizmo just as you do now. If you don't think you can give his as much attention as you do now I would slowly wean him off of that. Meaning if you carry him around all the time or play with him for hours at a time. If you go to having the baby and than not playing with Gizmo as much right away because of the baby he will most likely realize this and hate the baby for it. I know I have read stories on birds being too jealous because they weren't prepared for the less attention they would receive. I have heard of the diving at the baby. Not to scare you at all! But just so you are away at how important it is to go ahead and start NOW rather than once your little bundle of joy has arrived! That way it won't be stressful or as stressful for him and you! Good Luck! And Congrats again!!

I agree can you take a picture? I know my grey is thinner on the bottom part of the beak towards the end, and my 12 year old Quaker is pretty thin as well. If they have a cement perch that they can kind of grind their beak down on that will help some. But honestly we kind of need to see a pic to see how severe it is.

Welcome Aaron and we are all looking forward to your pics! And that is good you are looking here on this forum to read up before you get your grey. We look forward to hearing more from you. Ask away!!
-
Yes Lysis welcome to the family! Hope to see some pics soon! You'll learn your way around and see how we are all family here. Like myself, I have a Quaker and will shortly be getting a Goffin Cockatoo and we also own SweetHeart a TAG. But again welcome to the forum!

Welcome Kimmie it's nice to meet you and hope you enjoy the family!
-
Well I think Judy said it all lol. Welcome to the family!

Personally we still use it, I have had our Quaker for 9 years and the vet had told us as long as we had good grade pans and they weren't getting over the heat range of 500 degrees or left on a burner with nothing in them they would be fine. It's a personal opinion I think, some have had bad experiences with them which do lead to death unfortunately. I know I will get some slack off of this. But we still use it, we are just careful not to burn anything or heat at high degrees. We do use our fan that is over the stove as well, just for a safety.

Lmao ok sorry! I thought I saw Judy talking to a Lisa? But maybe there is a Lisa lol. I will change it for ya! sorry for the confusion! And nice to know your name now lol

I thought I would let all of you know, just cause I know they are harder to find that the breeder I am getting my baby cockatoo off of has a 3 week old baby TAG she is hand feeding as well. If your interested please e-mail me! I went through another breeder with my TAG, but honestly as nice as she was, I just don't think she socialized our baby. This breeder sends updates constantly and is very eager to answer any and all questions! So just wanted to let you know cause I know the TAG's are a bit harder to find.

Oh I hope all of you look at this and I hope I haven't tired you out yet! I just got this! Remember he is only a month old!!!! I asked the breeder if they cry, cause I had read that and sometimes they can cry for a little over a year till they grow out of it lol. And this is what she sent me! I don't care if he cries or not, I still want him!! Just wanted to see what it sounded like. So please go check out my little guy!

LOL Bernadette (not Lisa lol) you go girl! Others probably with no doubt would have sold her that bird, and good for you, cause there are soo many re-homes for people just like her. Like I said, my husband and I would go all the time into the pet store right after we did our taxes cause that's when we finally had the $ for a Big Macaw like that! I am glad we didn't cause for one I never read up on them, we were young and dumb too lol. But 12 years later we finally got our TAG after doing about 2 years here and there of research and than about 2 months before I got her was on here with you guys asking all kinds of questions lol. So good thing you did that! I could have used that when I was younger, glad I never gave in though and got one back then!<br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2008/02/19 19:42

lol sorry! I can't wait till he comes home! I sooo wish I knew how to feed him, I am home all day long and would love to do it, but would not want to harm him in any way cause of my negligence, SO I will just let the breeder do the good job she is doing and wait it all out! The breeder said she sat there the other night and wrapped him up in a towel with his little head sticking out and watched a movie with him and just pet his little head, she said he was loving life! I can't wait to do that with him!!!!!

Aha! I always wondered what BMustee's name was lol! Guess I should have just asked lol Being I am allergic to it anyway, I don't think I will get the plant, but for everyone else that is a wonderful idea! A whole lot cheaper in the long run and more natural. I will def have to look for the juice! The juice is good no? lol Just something my Italian grandfather always said lol. Sorry having a silly moment!
-
Well Judy your in LUCK! lol The breeder just sent me this one saying "Look Mom my feathers are starting to open" And today makes him 1 month old!!!!
-
That is nice Tari! How do you do those?

Hello Butch! And welcome! My quaker has been clipped for 9 years and my TAG has been clipped since we got her. It varies in everyone's life and I don't think it's a matter of how closely you keep an eye on them, I think it comes down to what is the safest for YOUR Bird and it has to be looked at in each individual case. Some people have a bunch of dogs, and windows like I do, therefore no matter how much I have an EYE on SweetHeart there is always that chance, and instead of punishing my dogs because we bought a bird or punishing the bird because we have dogs, I opted to have her wings trimmed because of the danger available to her and wanted her out along with my dogs every day. Everyone's decision will vary, it just depends on what your conditions are! Welcome again though and there are no stupid questions!!!
-
Welcome Hedwigsmom and Kimmie! I'm sure you will still find plenty of questions to ask in the next coming weeks! I know I did and I had owned a bird for 9 years prior to getting my SweetHeart (TAG). We are getting another addition at the end of March beginning of April so I can join you on the wait lol. But just ask away no matter how silly you think the question is, because THERE ARE NO silly questions!! Welcome again to the both of you!

lol I guess we are sticking with that name so far lol, but no I really don't like it too much, but that's what hubby wants to name him lol. And Thank you! He is finally starting to look like a little bird lol.
