You could try wrapping sisal rope around the perch, it will give him something else to pick but it will stop him chewing the wood.I put a piece of timber across the bird room for then to chew on, they ignore the wooden toys but love to shred wood in to matchsticks :pinch:
Matt you can train him to fly to you with time & patience, you need to put him on his stand & make sure he stays there, raise your arm & give him a command to fly to you, use the same command everytime so he recognises it.Reward him with a treat or plenty of praise everytime he flys to you.
Here is a thread on harness training..

even with parrot toys, you must check your greys toys on a daily bases for damage, loose parts etc... once a toy/baby toy has been damaged i would discard it

nothing to worry about novato, around now they will begin to refuse less hand formula, follow your baby on how much formula he wants to take,be sure to offer a good variety of foods.Plenty of mixed veggies, fruits, pulses, moistened pellet/ a good quality seed mix etc..
 poor Talon & you Penny, lets hope the antibiotics kick in soon & Talon will soon be back to good health.A stressful time for you both im sure, hang in there girl
you have some good looking bits there Jackie having four greys,i buy baby toys & make all of my own,it saves a fortune ! If you have a local timber yard, they will often sell you a bag of wooden off cuts for next to nothing, drill a few holes & away you go
Wow Pat well done, just goes to show "you can teach an old dog new tricks " Patience & consistent work by yourself has paid off, a good lesson for anyone reading this.
