  2. Do you have two birds ? Marley & Phonenix ? May i ask why you feel it is neccessary to give your birds up due to the arrival of a new baby ? Many parrots owners have babies & children in their lives but dont re- home the birds. Here is a current thread you may like to look at .... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/other-birds/64487-children-and-parrots.html
  3. Hi Jenny, Your correct in that you should limit the quantity of nuts fed to your grey due to the high fat content.Macadamia nuts and Almonds offer the best nutritional value. My greys actually have half a walnut each ( their favourite ) each morning with their fruit. They get one almond in with their seed mix in the evening. Pine nuts are a big favourite with greys & i use them as a reward treat.I only purchase human grade nuts & personally dont offer mine nuts in the shell this is due to Peanut shells and peanuts can carry concentrations of spores from the aspergillus mold. Here is a few links for you which are worth having a read through... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/23193-peanuts-in-the-shell.html#23728 http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/29553-aspergillosis.html#29631

  7. No one is going to beat away at you, Well i hope they dont We are all faced with tough decisions at some point in our lives & you have to do what is correct for you at that given time, either rightly or wrongly.
  8. Hi Mark & Welcome. Im afraid making a noise & mimicing is part of owning a grey & it is something you will have to accept.
  9. Many greys are closet talkers ! when their human companions leave the room, they then roll of their whole vocabulary !Maybe given time he will feel comfortable & confident to talk in front of you, but dont expect him to perform on command As for the high pitched noise you are doing the correct thing in ignoring it,it may be he is calling for your attention when you leave the room. here is a link for the step up command.. http://exoticpets.about.com/od/behavior/f/birdstepup.htm
  10. Hi Rodney it has been a while ! Rio looks lovely It's funny you have posted this question as im experiencing the same thing will my baby B&G She preens herself has a good shake then completely freaks outs at the dander floating about in the air.I only reassure her thats it ok & im hoping she will grow out of it hopefully other members will have some ideas. Nice to have you back
  11. Hi Lauri & Welcome to the forum. You have quite a varied flock We look forward to hearing more from you & good luck with the new CAG.
  12. Jane has offered some great advice. Many greys love their cages & can get very territorial over them, his cage is his space & he obviously feels very secure & content when he is in it.As Jane suggests you have to entice him out poppyparrot if you can get your grey to step up gently apply a little pressure over the toes with your thumb, cup the wings with your other hand & back in the cage accompanied with loads of praise & the occasional food reward
  13. Thanks for sharing Dan & i know how hard it is to capture them on video

  18. Hi Jenny & Welcome to the forum,we look forward to any questions you may have & following coco's progress with you
  19. Thanks Dan, sounds yummy even i could eat that minus the red palm
  20. The crafty approach - Try adding your birds favourite treat to new foods, you can push the treat into new foods & as your grey tries to retrieve the treat he will have to pick pass the new food. Try offering new foods in the morning along with your birds regular food,Birds are hungriest in the morning & may be more willing to try new foods out. Birds are social creatures, try eating a new food with your bird watching you, they may be more inclined to want to have a taste if they see you enjoying it. Be persistent keep offering new foods everyday, even if your bird just throws it on the floor at least he has touched the new texture. It may take months for your grey to accept a new food . A kebab stick, specially made bird kebab sticks can be purchased, Add different coloured fruit & vegetables & leave it for a few hours,as the bird investigates he will more than likely touch the food. Presentation- Some greys love chunk's of food to hold while others will enjoy finely chopped or mashed food.Offer some foods cooked & served warm, while others for example carrots can be offered raw. Bright coloured veggies & fruit often attract attention.
  21. Here is a link on handfeeding, have a read & use it as a guideline only..How many feeds is your baby on? http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73409-handfeeding-a-baby-grey.html If he has just left his siblings then he may feel a little insecure,he just needs gently reassuring from you, around 12 weeks he should be fairly independent. You mention another grey, does he have contact with this one ? Well if your not sure which end the liquid has come from it's kind of hard to attempt to reply to that As M2MM stated your vet is the best person for medical advice.Good luck for Wednesday
  22. Sorry you had to go through that Berna,i can only imagine your pain right now,i do know through my friend the heartache it causes when you loose a baby (((hugs)))
  23. Well thats why his prices are low he sells his birds unweaned, none of the above are fully weaned at 6-8 weeks.Im sorry but it infuriates me,just looks like he is in it for the profit that is to be made by having a fast turnover.Genuine caring breeders here in the UK never sell unweaned babies,i appreciate it's different from country to country, none the less it still makes me cross.
