1. Falconeer has she been DNA sexed ? Do you know for sure she is a female ? I have 2 greys who are boys & very dark, my female grey is much lighter in colour, Can you post a picture ?
2. danmcq wrote: Dan it may well be the same story, i read it a few months back, if it's a hoax then that's a pretty sick hoax, but if true its serves as a warning.I know i took it as the truth & acted on the information. My open top cages are staying locked shut.
3. So true Talonsis Good one Tari
4. Hi Falconeer great nrew on Tonto, & such a cool name As for the peanuts im not convinced it affects a birds colour, feed only in moderation & as a treat due to the high fat content in nuts
5. Hi Laurie, i love to read when i have the time. My favourite author is Martina Cole, but i love to read autobiographies.
6. This is a copy of a story that was posted on a UK forum. I do not want to alarm anyone but thought that you should be aware of the potential risks that are out there for our greys. When i first read this story i had two open top cages & immediately secured mine with cable ties.I check every few days to make sure my birds haven't chewed them. This may be a very rare incident but none the less it could happen & therefore i feel you should know the danger exists. Quote...Dawn Doobie's mom @ AnAfricanGrey.ca wrote: Well, everyone, I really haven't been posting lately and there's a reason. Sebastian died 2 weeks ago. On August 22. That's the same day my brother was killed 14 years ago, by a drunk driver. Here's what happened, and I can only hope that his death could possibly save a life of another bird. Everything had been going great, Doobie and Sebastian were bonding like they should and rarely if ever, were separated. They loved each other. If they were apart, they would call to each other non-stop till they could preen each other. Therefore, when I went to work for my 3 hours, I'd put Sebastian in Doobie's cage. Then, when I got home, I'd let everyone out and we'd all play. Well, on that horrible Tues. when I came into my apt., I only got halfway between their cages and my door before I collapsed to my knees and cried. Doobie's cage top, opens up so you can put a perch in between the bars. I also has a locking mechanism. I never open the top and check the lock at least 20 times a day to make sure it's still locked. I know I checked it that morning when I left. I guess what I didn't consider is the fact that Sebastain is/was an acrobat. Apparently, he must have become obsessed with the latch and got it to open somehow, then my baby, got his head wedged in between the 2 flaps that open. I came into my house to see Sebastian's head outside the cage and his body hanging, Doobie running back and forth on the bottom of the cage like a mad man. I've since wired the top shut and I'm trying to come up with some cash for a new cage, I really don't want it in my house anymore, it's the very first thing I see when I come in my door and I can't get the image of my baby out of my head. I will become more active here soon, I just need to get my life fully functioning first. I really feel like I've lost a child, and the fact that it happened on the anniversary of my brother's death, is just toooooooo much right now.

Imagination, Naming your pizza, Additional Karma will be given for a photo of your bird eating your pizza The competition will run until the 1st of October, so everyone has time & no excuses ! 12. Wow how lucky, no kids ! went to Miami once,i was only 14  We did all the tourist things, Space centre , Disney, i'm sure member's who live that way will come up with some ideas Have a great time,November will roll round.
13. The feather plucking was almost down to boredom & lack of stimulation in his last home.Poor diet can also contribute to this.I would advise a vet check to rule out any physical problems. Many greys dont like to bath, my 3 included. They get misted everyother day.If he tolerates this then it will help with the plucking, you vet may advise you on what products to use, but as Monique said aloe is good. Patience & time is needed, he may have many issues from his past.Spend your quality time with him chatting to him etc.. He needs to gain human trust.
14. What a sad story, Well done you for rescuing this poor bird from his awful life. Some greys dont like to play with toys, i have 3 & they all love to chew & shred, thats what greys are known for I wouldnt worry to much about other toys if he is happy to chew & shred thats fine. Why dont you try just hanging some fruit & veg near him when he's out of the cage, im sure he will investigate at some point & if takes a nibble thats a bonus.
15. Dan, i dont have a problem with Ebay, you can get some pretty good finds on there, you just need a little luck. This playstand was half an hours drive from me & was a great buy.As with most things a good sanitizing before you use them
16. I agree Talon the coiled one's seem fine As with all toys & perches they need looking at once a week for damage which could cause accidents & removing if necessary.
17. The other two popular brands are zupreem And pretty bird pellets,Are you able to get them ?
18. I won a Daylight play stand on Ebay, which i collected yesterday I won it for £20 , i think that's roughly $40 , A real bargain as they retail here In the UK for over £100 !! I gave it a real good hot wash & disinfected it with avian F10. It is in immaculate condition. I made a few changes, adding perches & toys Here's the before & after pictures. After With Coco my rescue trying it out,
19. Elmo, It's just the best thing ever when they say their first word I'm so pleased for you Monique.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2007/09/01 14:36
20. TinyTimneh i wouldnt personally change his name now after he has been with you 2 years,It will just confuse him. If anyone re- homes, rescues a bird i would advise if you want to change a birds name do it from day one. My grey Coco was called Rocco, Rocco was more amale name & i changed it from day one of having her.It was very similiar to her name but she accepted it & now says hello Coco
21. I dont have any rope toys, i have hanging bungees that are made from sisal rope but have never had a problem with them. There is always the danger of toes getting caught & i did have this happen with one on my cockatiels,he had got his toe caught & the thread had tangled round his foot,He had flapped about making it worse. My husband had to hold him while i painstakenly had to cut the thread away which was very tightly wrapped around his foot & toes. So please supervise your birds with rope toys
22. Talon & judy You bring a smile to my face Now i'm going off topic
23. Thanks for the update.Sounds as if you are doing a great job there. Sometimes greys will bond with one person & the previous owner being a woman may well be why Meeka is bonding so well with your girlfriend. Keep us update with your progress
