2. oh Josh my daughter wants to date a medic  She likes number 2, familiar with latex & number 3 any rhythm   :woohoo:
3. Congratulations Kathy, Lulu sounds one special little girl. Be confident around her & when handling her, She will quickly pick up on this & her confidence & trust for you will blossom. I would keep the fruit & veg seperate from her pellets, as Talon has said they will soil quicker. Welcome to the world of being a grey owner
4. Oh Dan my heart goes out to you & Kim. What a deeply sad situation for you both.I know you are a wonderful & caring man & you have done everything humanly possible to find Jake.Let's pray that there may be the slimmest of hope that Jake has survived. You are in my thoughts. Thank you for finding the strength to post this story as a warning to others, as you correctly say a wing clip is never a guarantee that your bird cant fly well enough to escape.A very tragic story & i hope members take this as a warning, many say "oh it wont happen to me " but YES it can happen to you. For you & Kim
5. Hi Talon here's a picture of the plastic rings i use to keep the cage door open,i use them for toys etc..I purchased them from a childrens toy shop they are called learning links.I hope you can find something similar You can see i attach toys with them
6. Thanks guys, Obviously my articles i write only skim the surface & for those who need to research more there is a wealth of information available on the Internet, but i think some threads need to be simplified so all members are able to understand with out getting deeply involved with extremely hard jargon they are unable to decipher.
7. Josh sucking up to the ladies again Ladies if i win the lottery, my daughter can clean the aviaries ! she has to earn her share of my winnings & she hates bird poop  We can sit by & watch, joe can feed us, know what can josh & Dan do

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2007/09/02 13:02

9. kiwibarb12 wrote: dblheix has given you some great advice, The main thing will be time & patience but you will get there As for the millet you are quite right budgies love it,personally when i was training my two i only used it as a treat,i never fed it to them in their cage,A good trick is to rest your hand in the cage while holding the millet, in time the budgie may well use your arm as a perch so he can get to the millet. Heres a picture of what i mean. good luck.
10. Judy, you just keep posting, i love your witty comments, but be aware this little guy is after you , He is your personal off topic man
11. I will get you a photo today, once i've been to bed
12. Aspergillosis. Aspergillosis is the name given to a variety of diseases caused by the fungus of Aspergillus. Two known strains of fungi, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus, produce aflatoxins, which can be found in peanuts, peanuts in the shell and peanut products. Aspergillosis in birds is a respiratory disease caused by the fungus Aspergillus. Aspergillus grows readily in warm and moist environments. The microscopic spores of the fungus become airborne. Poor ventilation, poor sanitation, dusty conditions, and close confinement increase the chance the spores will be inhaled. The severity of Aspergillosis is determined by various factors but one of the most Important factors is the state of the immune system of your bird. Feeding a healthy nutrional diet, keeping your birds living area clean , good ventilation & fresh water changed throughout the day will minimize the risk of your bird inhaling any airborne spores. What are the signs of aspergillosis? There can be two forms of aspergillosis, chronic & acute. Birds with acute aspergillosis may have difficulty in breathing loss of appetite, frequent drinking and urination, and sometimes sudden death mat occur.. The fungus generally affects the trachea, (voice box), and air sacs. The lungs may also be involved. Chronic aspergillosis is much more common, and unfortunately more deadly. The bird may not show any symptoms until the disease has progressed too far. The respiratory system is attacked, nodules appear and work through the tissue, large numbers of spores enter the bloodstream. The spores then travel throughout the body, infecting multiple organs. Aspergillosis can be difficult to diagnose as the signs of disease copy those of many other illnesses. The veterinarian will need to do a full blood count & maybe an endoscopy, a view down the trachea, to help diagnois. So there you have a brief run down on Aspergillosis. As with any food we feed out birds there is always a risk, There has been a lot said about Aspergillosis, but you need to use your own judgemeant & common sense. Feed only human grade nuts, discard if the nut has an odour or looks bad & check for mould.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2007/09/02 01:47
13. Falconeer i hate to say it, but who was supervising the birds while you was away ? I'm in agreement with the others i think you should have it checked by an avian vet. I wish your bird well & hope it isn't lasting damage.
14. spookyhurst Thank you for posting that story. After reading this i am more convinced that open top cages should be securely locked. As i said previously if you think your grey can access the lock & attempt to undo it then to air on the side of safety i would advise you to secure it.
15. Im trying Joe, not even close at the moment one day, dreams do come true
16. Ah bless you both, you are welcome at mine any time You have it in writing now, so you can hold me to it i couldnt think of anyone nicer id want to share with . 20. Dan i have little plastic rings that i attach to my cage doors, they stay open so the birds can access their cages but it prevents the doors from shutting, avoiding the possibility of trapped toes etc..
21. gazza thats great, any questions just fire away, we are here to help
22. Hi Nicole, thanks for letting us know about vikki. If you feed her nuts & see a change in her behaviour then why not stop feeding them ? Make sure aswell as her harrisons she has daily access to fruit & veg Why not come & say hello & introduce yourself in the welcome room
23. Cor that takes me back, i'm glad you have found a breeder you were happy with. The weeks will roll by & you will be a grey owner Welcome to an exclusive club, this grey will enhance your lives & you will experience love that you didnt know you had
24. birdgranna,I am sorry to hear about your amazon, & i do hope that the treatment & your determination & love for your bird will beat this. Peanut shells and peanuts can carry concentrations of spores from the aspergillus mold.LIke many things. there is always a risk.I personally feed nuts as i have said before, always out of the shell & human grade quality. It is a personal choice. I will do a new thread on Aspergillosis, so the information is available for members to make an informed decision.
25. Falconeer it was posted as a warning, please do not worry,as Dan said he had seen the story & doubted the authenticity of it,I only posted as a precaution not to worry people. If people have open top cages & have any doubts that their birds would be able to force the lock open, then personally i would tie it securely. That what i have done with mine.
