  1. It can be found in most health food stores, if not it is readily available on the internet
  2. Angie is obviously picking up that something different is happening around her the stress of the situation has made her revert back to chewing her feathers, this maybe a nervous related thing with her & the only way she knows how to cope.In afraid there is little you can do as you have to prepare for your move, just keep her routine as normal as possible & reassure her. When your in your new house surround Angie with familiar items that she hopefully can find comforting, she will need time to adjust but fingers crossed when things have settled she will stop the chewing
  3. Makena im sorry to hear this, it does seem your partners absent may have led to this behaviour. At 10 months he is the right age to start molting & this can make him itchy frequent bathing may help but i suspect this may be more than a molting issue. If he is biting at wing feathers also it would appear to be more a behavioural issue. I dont think it will be a diet related issue as i know Makena has a varied & good diet.Try adding preening / shredding toys to Makena's cage to distract his attention from biting himself. I know it's frustrating but we will explore all avenues with you to try & brake this

Yes keep a constant eye out when your grey's eating a chicken wing or leg for bone shards but dont worry to much. The marrow is good for them & im pleased your grey enjoyed the chicken treat
  5. hi Lucy the others have offered great advice,As Mark suggests have a good read through all the information that is available here on the forum, any questions please ask.Yes a vet visit needs to be your first issue to determine your greys health.
  6. Hi Lupa & Welcome, Congrats on your new baby Shani,Have a good look around the site there is a wealth of information available ,if you need to ask a specific question just post a new topic.
  7. You say that your grey is clipped,if this was not carried out correctly this may be the cause of the balance issues.A bad clip can effect the birds balance. keep an eye on his balance if it appears to get worse i would consult an avian vet just to rule out any neurological problems. The step up command needs to be worked on consitantly each day,at the moment he feels secure stepping onto a perch stick he will gain confidence & trust in you & will step up just give it time, You've only had him 3 days he needs to adjust to his new home & you, take it slowly & at his pace. This a very good site with information on parrot training... http://exoticpets.about.com/od/behavior/a/birdtraining.htm
  8. Beat me to it judy Judy has offered some great advice, introduce your grey to as many different foods while he/she is still young. They are more willing to investigate new foods at an early age as opposed to when they are older.Greys are hungriest in the mornings after their night of sleeping this is a good time to introduce new foods.

  15. As we had a member who needed advice on how to stop bleeding last night on the forum i thought we should have a thread on first aid. Please add any suggestions to the list below. Taken from Birdlines website - help for you and your birds - Basic First Aid Kit For Your Bird Basic First Aid Kit For Your Bird Always have a basic first aid kit to hand. It should contain a few simple things that will be useful should your bird become injured. These are the basic minimum items that should be at hand in case of an emergency: 1. A substance to stop bleeding (Cornflour is good for this, however there are proprietary brands available in all good pet shops.) 2. A bird safe disinfectant (Such as Avisafe) 3. Cotton wool balls or cotton buds. 4. Tweezers and sharp scissors 5. Savlon cream (The ONLY human medication that can safely be used on a bird) 6. A soft, dark, non striped towel, for restraining an injured bird. (A light, striped towel would represent a preditor to the bird.) 7. De-stressant / Shock medication 8. Probiotics / White cell support / Electorlytes 9. Heat source (Heat lamp to help with shock.) 10. Pen light 11. Bandage material (½ Inch masking tape or micro-pore tape.) 12. Nail clippers 13. Eye dropper (This must be well cleansed if it has been used for other purposes!) 14. Important Telephone numbers (i.e. Vets, Taxi companies) 15. A suitable sized bird carrier (Even if your bird is trained to travel on your shoulder, a carrier should be available incase the bird is physically injured or in shock!)
