Welcome Bikermol and Harry!! It's GreYt having you here. I would love to see photos of your Timgo, as they are very rare. One thing about Parrots, whats theirs is theirs, whats yours is theirs and if anything else is not covered under that rule, it's theirs. :-) If you really do not want to be interrupted while dinning, place your Grey in the cage until finished. The other option is to place him on a stand and return him everytime he gets off until you ask him to do so. This will take time and patience, but it is doable. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Oh Elena, I can not imagine hhow you feel right now. But I know I would be in terrible straights. I do hope and pray your baby pulls through with your loving care and that you can get to the root of the problem. Is it possible your young grey fell during the night and damaged him/her self?

Oh, this is terrible. The others have given you the best advice. Your baby is certainly showing stroke symptoms or possibly a partially broken neck, from the description you give. I hope and pray he pulls through and that you find another vet that is more knowledgeable than the first.

A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, "Harry, what's your problem?" Harry answered, "I'm too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!" Ms. Brooks had had enough. She took Harry to the principal's office. Ms. Brooks asks, "What does a cow have four of that I have only two of?" Harry, after a moment: "Legs." Ms. Brooks: "What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?" The principal wondered why would she ask such a question! Harry replied: "Pockets." Ms. Brooks: "What does a dog do that a man steps into?" Harry: "Pants." Ms. Brooks: What starts with a C, ends with a T, is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin, whitish liquid?" Harry: "Coconut." The principal sat forward with his mouth hanging open. The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher, "Put Harry in the fifth-grade, I got the last seven questions wrong.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear about the bruised upper arms. You'll just need to ensure you pay attention to Bella explicitly any time she is on you. How dare you get preoccupied with something or someone else. ;-) She sounds like a great protector, didn't know you had a little Grey Doberman. :-) Next, Bella will be first taking sips and bites from any fluids or foods your partner offers to ensure no poisoning is taking place. ;-)

Welcome Matt and Pablo!!! It's GreYt having you here and kudos to you for rehoming a Petshop of 4 years Grey that is now in a loving and caring home with a "Flock", rather than finger poking visitors annoying him. Children may be an issue with Pablo, due to the way they poke at every critter they see in a cage. Pablo has probably learned not to trust "Little" humans. This is not to say that over time, Pablo will learn that the little human which is part of an established Flock. A little human that treats him with dignity, respect and gives good treats and never threatens him. Regarding Chlallmydia, psittaci is excreted in the feces and nasal discharges of infected birds. Infection usually occurs when a bird or a person inhales organisms that have been aerosolized from dried feces or respiratory tract secretions of infected birds. Other means of exposure include mouth-to-beak contact and handling infected birds' plumage and tissues. Even brief exposures can lead to symptomatic infection. So the caution here is to ensure you and your family wash hands regularly after any interaction with Pablo or after cleaning, feeding, cage rearranging etc. Do not allow any beak to lip contact and watch any nasal discharges that could be transferred to you or clothing. Also, ensure you keep the others parrots isolated from Pablo. The normal treatment is usually by the antibiotics Tetracyline or Doxycycline, however some newer drugs are also effective. Duration of treatment is for 45 days. One thing to note, if your vet did not advise you of is all sources of calcium need to be removed for this period, as calcium affects the uptake of the antibiotic. Great post Dave, with GreYt information!! I have promulgated this for a while here ont he Forum: "Despite many “old wives tales” to the contrary, birds have evolved to live outside. The notion that moving air, in the form of drafts and wind, can kill birds isn't true. " Amen to the death of that old tale and Karma for you my friend!! :-)

The Full Spectrum with UVA/UVB definitely makes a difference in the wintertime when we can not take our birds out and for those that do not take their birds out in the summertime. I constructed my own dual 36 watt (totalling 72 watts) tube 24" fixtures and hung them directly over both my Greys and Conures Cages. The UVA and UVB are not only healthy for them, but also "Light Up" their world as they were meant to see it. Lab work may not show any negligible results, but the personality and temperament do show results. Just like us humans that work indoors day in day out under artificial lighting. The spectrum and output of that lighting greatly affects our mood, mental state and ease of seeing/reading properly without straining. This has been proven scientifically and many companies have switched to all "Full Spectrum" lighting due to those studies. The difference with our birds is the UVA and UVB aspects they benefit from also. My Conure will sit on top of his cage 75% of the day during the winter as his preferred spot. My Grey maybe 40% of the. In summertime I run the lights 12 hours, as I do in the winter also. But, I take them outside for several hours at a time several days a week, so they have had plenty of natural sunlight during those months. Hi Amy, The problem with CD's to teach your Grey to learn other words, is the words are not associated with any action, like you suggest having him say "Ahoy Matey" when you walk in the door as a response to that action. If you want him to make sense and understand meaning of words, you need to say "Ahoy Matey" for example when you walk in the door or into the room he is in. See what I mean? :-)

Hi Nycsha!!! Wow, what a great Christmas surprise to have you back and updating us. We all wondered what happened to you. It's good though, that you became busy with contracts etc. in this economy. :-) LOL - Bella sounds like a real pain in the A$$ now. ;-) Aren't they just like a child getting into everything? I love her mis-pronounciation. Very cute, but it will go away as she listens to that phrase very time you say it and she re-calibrates. Getting used to a new environment of people, cage, room, furnishings etc. is a big deal to a Grey. They for the most part do not take change lightly. Great link Caroline! On the misting - Maybe hold off a little on that so you don't become the bad guy at first. Once he loves you, then you can do those dastardly deeds like misting to him. :-) First comes love then comes REALITY!! :ohmy:
