I've gone to every health store in 3 cities and no one has flax seed oil or red palm oil. All stores offered to special order for me but it's expensive. I will keep trying to find it.

Angie loves to hang upside down from her cage. She attacks her toys that way.

Hello everyone, The last time I posted I wrote about Angie plucking. I mentioned to a breeder that Angie has been plucking since July and the breeder told me that it sounds as though Angie is very unhappy. Unhappy? I don't know where I went wrong. I bought her a big cage and many toys. I give her fresh water everyday. Her cage is in the livingroom and we are always in the living room. She whistles the Andry Griffith song in it's entirety. I bought Aloe Vera Juice and she didn't like the spray. She never used to bite and when I sprayed her she got so mad that she started biting. She doesn't mind taking a shower so I figured if I spray her while she is in the shower it wouldn't be so hard on her. I finally decided to stop spraying her because of the biting. She stopped biting us when we stopped the spraying. I have a feeling that her diet has something to do with the plucking. The breeder that sold her to me gave me a seed mix with pellet diet. I think the seeds are what is making her pluck. Unfortunately, I have been very ill for the last 5 months and I can't afford to buy her Harrison's or any other type of diet. I feed her veggies, fruits and other table food but she loves those seeds and won't give them up. If you saw a picture of how she now looks you would cry. I cry to. I love her so much it hurts. I thought that AG's plucked when they are neglected but she couldn't have found a more loving home. I am sorry I keep going on about this. I am beginning to wonder if I should give her away.

Angie, does it too. I've noticed that she specially does it when she wants out of the cage. She is only 10 months old.

I've tried to bathe Angie in the sink or in the tub and she just won't have it. She seems to tolerate the shower. I bring her in with me and she sits up on a purge while I am taking a shower, dancing and singing like an idiot so she can see that it's fun. When I am ready for her I ask her to step up to my hand and she does and I slowly put her under the shower. The water is warm. She doesn't seem to mind and she also lets me put my hand over her back which she doesn't let me do yet when she is dry. Maybe she feels more secure if I have my hand over her back in the shower. Unfortunately, I've been very ill and haven't been able to bathe her in a long time but today in the shower she went and she didn't give me a hard time at all, not even a pip. When I took her out she looked very upset and she did a low sound that sounded as though she was growling like a dog. I placed her on top of a heating pad for a few minutes and then I put her back in her cage. I was worried that she might be cold as my home was 62 degrees. My heating system is not working.

This is something very special for all of us to remember. I didn't post this as a chain letter and some of you may have already seen it elsewhere but with such a beautiful message I thought I would post it to as a gesture of friendship and/or love I feel for all that have given me advise. I am thankful that I know you and your friendship is my Christmas Gift. This Christmas is hard for some of us and harder on others. If you are one of the fortunate ones that has it all or have more than the ones that don't have anything, I ask that you pray for all that are not as lucky during this time of the year. Please don't forget to turn to your loved ones, tell them how much you love them, give them a hug and a kiss. Merry Christmas to all. Love and Respect, Rae Hamilton Two traveling angels Keep reading to the bottom of the page -- don't stop at the feet (You'll see). Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem." The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had, the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel, "How could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him, he accused. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die." "Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it." "Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead." "Things aren't always what they seem." Hi, Some of you know who I am and some of you don't. I just started posting again. I have a question. Angie is 10 months old, she is my first Grey (first bird/Parrot), she is still suckling and I can tell when she is hungry because she does a single chirp that sounds like a baby bird. When I rub her beak she starts to suckle on my finger like a baby to a bottle. She is on regular food and has been since I brought her home. Once she is full she starts to whittle the Andy Griffith song, wolf whitle, and a few other ones. She has practiced her vocals every now and then but not too often. She said MOM once but hasn't done it again. She only gets very vocal once a day and rarely will do it twice a day. She is not noisy at all. When will she stop suckling? It doesn't bother me and I think it's cute but I am wondering if I am not feeding her enough. I put a cup full daily of a mixture of pellets, seeds and oatmeal. She finishes the whole thing quick and if it's all gone and she gets hungry the same day she will call out to me like a baby bird to it's Mama. Am I making sense? I get nervous about feeding her regular food peoples I am afraid if I feed her the wrong thing I will make her seek or kill her. I do give her scramble eggs with cheese, bananas, apples, spagetti, peas and broccoli. Any feed back (no punt intended) will be greatly appreciate it.

I just wanted to add that Angie is only 10 months old so there is no way this could be hormonal.
-
Thank you Judy. I am going to buy some Aloe Vera and spray her daily. I will keep you posted.

Hi, I haven't posted for about 4 months. I bought Angie in May 2007 and I went out of town twice since then. The first time I took Angie back to the boarding house were I bought her and she was fine. The second time I took her she started plucking her feathers when I brought her home. Each time I was gone for a week. She is completely bald now except for her tail, head and wings. I always walk away when she plucks in front of me. She aslo has plenty of different toys and I haven't changed her diet. I am glad you posted your situation and it gave me some ideas of what to try. Thank you.

Talon, I haven't posted for a while and your private message sure got me back in here. Good luck with the photo contest. You are so sweet to do this CD.

Maybe Angie is eating the peel because it is very ripe, all dark brown, and it is softer and easier to tear appart?
-
Matt and Talon, Thank you so much. Yes, I feel very lucky. As soon as she hears me unlocking the front door to come in the house she whistles one long whistle. When she hears my voice and she can't see me she whistles the same whistle. By the way, not to change the subject but I gave her a banana today half way peeled and I just turn to see what she is doing and she is eating the banana peel instead of the banana. Is that O.K. for her to eat? The peel is now brown cause is very ripe.

It sure does Judy. It is such an awesome feeling to know that she is very happy with me and she approved of me. The breeder said that she tried to see if she would come to her but she didn't. The breeder was happy that she had sold her bird to a loving family.

Monique, I have a perch like that with the acrylic triangles, a perch and it also has a food/water cup. I love it because it's very light, I can take it to any room and just sit it on newspaper. Angie loves it and it also files down her nails. By the way, I bought it at Petco and PetSmart also carries them. It's worth the money and may I add it's not very expensive either.

Post edited by: raehamilton, at: 2007/06/21 15:37

Hi All, I wanted to share so far one of the most wonderful experiences I've had with Angie my CAG after just having her home for 1 month. The breeder told me that I am doing a great job with her when she saw what happened yesterday. I took Angie to the Feather Farm in Napa, where I bought her, to be baby sat for 5 days while I was on vacation. They have 2 baby CAG boys that are just over 3 months old, For Sale right now, so Angie got to hang out with them. When I got back from my trip to pick up Angie every one in the shop was busy doing something. All the Grey's where hanging out high up on top of a rope that was hanging from the ceiling. I couldn't tell which one was Angie so I started getting a little panicky because I wanted my baby NOW. So, I didn't know what else to do but to call her name and to my amazement, she was the one hanging the highest on her rope, as soon as I said, "Angie, come here baby" she ran down the rope, got to my shoulder level and started reaching out as if to get on my shoulder. I was sooooo happy that I started crying because I never expected that. It was as though I was picking up my child from day care and she ran to my arms when I called her. She acts like such a baby. I love her so much. Just wanted to share this beautiful experience with her. Thank you for allowing me.
-
I too also noticed Angie scratching a bunch today and saw her first little 4 feathers around her play area. When do they start to molt?
-
Julia, I can teach you Spanish if you'd like. Greylover, great job on ignoring him. I bought Angie just a couple of weeks ago and the first thing the breeder told me was not to pull my hand away if Angie peaks at it because it will teach her to bite. She also told me that if she does bite me to turn around and ignore her. Everyone here has given you great advise.

I can't wait. You know, my husband said to me when I brought her home, " Where in the world are we going to leave her when we go out of town?" I mentioned that to my next door neighbor (she also has a CAG, Ginie) and she said that we can leave her with her as long as she is not also going out of town. Are we lucky or what?
-
Isn't it something? I never thought that I would be so happy to have a bird and to love it so much. My husband and I are amazed at how she is so much like a baby.
-
I love to sing and I have been singing to her since I brought her home. This is the first time she sings back.

Hi all, Today I was watching a movie called "Dream Girls" and when Beyonce started singing a song called "Listen" I turned up the volume and to my HUGE SURPRISE Angy my 3 1/2 month CAG started to whistle really loud and then she started singing with her Parrot voice (I didn't understand what she was saying) and the louder the song got the louder she sang. I swear she was singing. It was as though she was competing in a singing competition and was looking at me with her neck stretched out (which I hadn't seen her do) as if she was making sure I was listening to her. It was so funny. When the song was over she continued to sing for a while and then she stoped. I waited a while and then I went to get my 8 year old daughter down stairs and I told her, "Watch this". I went back to where Beyonce started singing and raised the TV volume. Angie started whistling and signing again. When the song was over she stopped. Unbelievable. I can't wait for my husband to get home so I can show him what she can do. Has this happened to any of you?

Post edited by: raehamilton, at: 2007/06/04 02:18

Julia, Thank you so much for your response and I agree with you. I just don't like to be second guessed and if a Doctor tells me that the DNA test confirmed Angie is a girl then she is in fact a GIRL.
-
Has anyone in this forum ever had a DNA test that was wrong?
