We'll be waiting with open arms.:laugh: You are not harrassing anyone, you are doing research, what all prospective new grey owners should be required to do.
-
Thanks, Loviechick, I knew I could count on you for giving some tips for Boswell2k1, it sure is nice to be able to turn to someone who knows the situation and get the help they need. This is just another shining example of how a family helps each other out, karma to you Lovie.

Yes, Kitty, the more people you expose your grey to the more socialized it should be, but there is the possibility that the one you get won't be as receptive to new people, some are and some aren't. But most of the ones on this forum that let many people meet and hold their greys say they are more tolerant of other people versus the ones who seldom see other people outside of the immediate family. So in a nutshell, the more people who interact with your grey the more social it should be.

Well greylover, time waits for no one, but it is great to have you back and glad you had a good time. Now get busy and post. :laugh: :silly: :whistle: :cheer: :woohoo:

A lot of the members have done that very thing, and the best one to talk to about this is Loviechick, I believe all of her birds, including the greys are rehomed. Why don't you pm her and she can fill you in on her method. We already have some threads that have some of this type of information in them, if you want to skim over them and read what is already here. Thanks for joining and welcome to the family, looking forward to hearing more about this Timneh grey.

You make some very fine points there, Lovie, I hadn't thought of that but I should have. I belong to a bird club that meets once a month, and we are not supposed to bring our birds to meetings for just such a reason. There is too much disease going around and all it takes is to be exposed to others with it and it is all over.

Thanks so much for the update on Affy, I am glad everything is ok, we were worried. It seems that things like this come in twos or threes at a time, so glad all is well again. Keep us informed on future progress, and post a picture of Affy if you have one besides the one in your avatar. Introduce yourself on the welcome page if you like so we will know a little more about you. We are all family here and we care about each other and our greys too.

Maybe keeping it where other people have a chance to pet it was too much attention, and that was his way of telling you he did not like that, my guess. Then he may be just asserting his independence early, I wouldn't worry too much about it, Toni.:huh:

We understand, Jesus, and we hope you understand that English is the predominant language used here on the forum and if you are going to use Spanish please also include the translation in English so we can all enjoy what you wrote. That way some of us can learn a little Spanish while we are learning more about each other and our greys. I am not critizing you just making a suggestion, please don't take it the wrong way, I mean no harm, no offense given and I hope no offense taken.:blush:

I would think pancakes are ok as long as you don't put the syrup on them, too much sugar. You are not crazy, they love a lot of the same things we do and an occasional pancake is ok.

Hello and welcome, Kitty, although I feel like I know you already, wonder why that is. You have certainly come to the right place and we are looking forward to that day you will be able to get that grey. :)

Maybe I will just do that Talon, and share a piece of bear meat too.{Feel-good-000200BB}

Sherri, we are still concerned about your grey, did you take her to the vet? Please let us know how it turned out and if she is ok, we are anxious to know.:huh:

We love our little sweetie-pies, how could anyone think otherwise.{Love-000200DA}

Aww, go ahead Lidia, and try it with the pellets and seeds, could be yummy.{Communicate-0002011A}

Hello, rsh3429, and welcome to the family, and welcome to Marvin. I am glad you joined and looking forward to hearing more about Marvin, your grey. Yes I would be interested in your playstands, but if set in concrete won't that be expensive to ship them? I would like to look at them anyway so here is my email address judy13mw@msn.com

Most greys are not too loud, in fact they are quieter than most other birds, but a house would be preferable to an apartment where if it does vocalize some it would not bother anyone but the two of you of course. And wood or tile floors would be better than carpet, poops can be wiped up much easier on those floors. I would not worry about the guinea pigs, they are kept in their own cage and the grey is not gonna hunt them or anything, but she might try to bite one of them if she gets close enough. I haven't heard that one about the kitty litter box for them to dig around in, Josey will scratch like a chicken sometimes but I don't know if she would dig in a litter box. Now that would be something if you could get them to use it for a potty, the poop box.

Yes I agree with Mark, aka dblhelix, and Makena that the sex does not matter, I have a female and she is bonded to me and not my hubby. She tolerates him and is warming up a little bit more as time goes by, but I am mainly the only one who can handle her. And that is partly my fault for not socializing her enough, we don't have many people come to our house so she does not get that many chances to meet new people. Sometimes the bird chooses you but I don't think it matters in the long run, even if the bird doesn't choose you it will still bond with you and be just as strong a bond as if it chose it itself. Just like having a baby, you just want a healthy, happy one.

Hello, Kathleen, my you have had a difficult time lately, with a house fire and having to put the birds in a temporary house and now back home. But they handled it fine and now things can get back to normal. Yes we are interested in your other birds, most of us here have more than one bird and different kinds of birds. I also have a sun conure, Sunny, and she is a delight, she was my first parrot, and a spoiled rotten one now. My grey's name is Josey, and she is DNA sexed as female, she is 14 months old and I have had her since Sept 06. She is talking now and is a delight to have, I love her very much. When you do get some photos, you can post the other birds pictures in the other birds topic section. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and read thru the posts for information that may be of some help to you. Thanks for joining our family, we look forward to hearing more about Bailey and the rest of the birds in your flock.

Macallan, that is a very nice name, unusual but I like it. Well of course you will play with him, just let them try to keep you from it. Wish I could play with him, he is going to be a beauty.

Since those animals are not game animals, my hubby does not hunt them, no I have never tried those. I don't think I would care for them anyways, I'll just stick with the ones I already tried.:lol: Makena, most bear meat is greasy, full of fat, but the bear my hubby shot was a lean one, hardly any fat on it and it is not tough at all, I use it like I would beef, very tender and tasty. I will have to send him back to New Hampshire for another one, this one is almost gone.

It would be nice if all our pets could live as long as we do, but they don't, especially the cats and dogs. I have lost many of both over the years and it never gets any easier to deal with but that is just the way it is. They bring so much joy into our lives, we just have to enjoy them for what time they have and move on when they depart. It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Lidia, bear meat is a lot like beef, with a hint of deer meat, and very good. His bear, a black bear he got in New Hampshire, was not full of fat like most are. It was and is, we have a little left, very tasty and I used it like I would any similar cut of beef. Josey has enjoyed a lot of different meats as my hubby is a hunter and we eat whatever he gets for the most part. Josey has had pheasant, dove, wild turkey, duck, goose, deer and bear meat and she has enjoyed all of it, of course it is in moderation, not too much at one time. But sometimes she is really enjoying some and I have to take it away so she does not fill up on it to the exclusion of anything else.

Thats us allright, not much TV watching anymore, of course I am on here all the time, can't you tell? My Josey is more intertaining every day, her vocabulary is increasing all the time, my hubby sees to that, she now says "bad bird". You do have a petite one, Josey is around 415 grams so she is about the average, but who cares, they are all cute and lovable. Thanks for sharing her with us.
